How would a "Fully Rotatable" saucer affect the HET penalty, turn mode etc....
Expect it would be limited per xx impulses, what affect would it have if you used impulse for movement the turn you rotated....

Seems to be a lot more to it, than just getting weapons in arc, when your turn mode couldn't get you in the arc you wanted....

Well, the key would be to have it be fundamentally flawed enough to explain its absence in later eras.

Maybe the ship can not fire or turn other than to slip for the xx impulse period that the turret is rotating?

I might wonder if a rotating saucer risked straying into post-1979 Franchise territory.

Personally, I'd prefer to see turrets historically built only by those empires which designed their hulls to support them, such as the Worb Technocracy in the Omega Octant or the Imperium in the Triangulum Galaxy.

But, if someone in the Federation (or in the Federal Republic of Aurora) got bored enough to consider one as a simulator exercise, perhaps one could attempt a design based on a Terran CL hull? Such a spaceframe would be more rugged than the "saucer-and-nacelle" types, at least.

When it comes down to it, there are only Three Plausible Possibilities for the Rotatable Saucer that are based on True Hard Science. Anything else should be Dismissed as Whimsical Musings. They are:

1) THE SPINNING TOP: In this design, the Rotatable Saucer spins like a Spinning Top Toy on a Tabletop. Roll 1D6 to determine the Random Direction the Rotatable Saucer ends up in. Another Variation of this is to Spin the Whole Federation Ship, so Roll Randomly to determine Facing and Speed. Be sure to Reset Turn Mode and Sideslip. Then Roll 3D6 to determine how many Impulses the Entire Crew remains Dizzy.

2) THE SCREW ON LID: The Rotatable Saucer can only Rotate Counter-Clockwise 60 Degrees every 8 Impulses. It can do this up to 1080 Degrees. But DO NOT GO PAST 1080 Degrees! If the Fed Captain does, the Rotatable Saucer will "POP OFF" and become Boom-Separated. The Fed Rotatable Saucer must then Rotate Clockwise 1080 Degrees to Screw Back On.

3) DEATH BLOSSOM: The Rotatable Saucer spins Hysterically Around and Around and Around. The Fed can fire weapons in ANY DIRECTION during ANY IMPULSE for the ENTIRE TURN. After Death Blossom completes, the Rotatable Saucer tries Slow Down, but it Cannot. The Rotatable Saucer CRACKS IN HALF, revealing a BABY BEING who looks like the Kid from the CORBOMITE MANEUVER.

Again, this idea was already published somewhere and sometime. I was just trying get it added to the list of "cool but didn't work out" ships. It certainly doesn't need to be deigned right now because it would have to be accepted first. Plus, you know, it already is designed.
