Kzini New Light Cruiser (NCL)

After the introduction of the NCA in Y175, the Kzintis noted that the conversion of a CM into an NCA was not as simple as for other races. In addition to the prefabricated ridgeback, several other systems required replacement, most notably the replacement of the 2-coil impulse engines with the 4-coil model and the replacement of the 3-barrel disruptor bank with a 4-barrel bank. It was reasoned that incorporating these changes into the basic CM design would produce a notable increase in the efficiency of conversion to an NCA, while also providing a moderate improvement in firepower. While successful, only a few ships of this design were produced. The design was essentially too sucessful in its original goal. It was too expensive for widespread deployment as a light cruiser, and due to the ease of conversion, most were actually completed as NCAs.

In theory, these changes could be made to any CM variant, but there was never any need.

Changes to CM:

- Add 1 Disruptor
- Add 2 Impulse
- Shields and all tracks are the same as the CM

Other Data:

- Size Class 3
- Move Cost 0.67
- BPV 122 (Includes Y175 Refit)
- Turn Mode B
- 12 Boarding Parties
- 33 Crew Units
- YIS 177

Note that (for potentially different reasons) for various reasons, this idea could be applied fairly easily to other races, particularly the Klingons and Lyrans.

Klingon: Add extra wing phasers and additional APR.
Lyran: Upgrade Phaser-2 to Phaser-1 and add additional impulse.

This also sounds like the MCC.

Partially, but not completely. It does not have the improved phasers, better shields, additional batteries/APR, or flag bridge of the MCC. It is an upgrade, but the "historical" intent is to make conversion to an NCA easier.

but it has the effect of creating a slightly overgunned CM.

that is the concern.
