Ken, to clarify, it would seem that "(UTF4.322) Units with a Year In Service date of Y164 or earlier are purchased with a 10% discount on their price, rounding fractional BPV down; refitting the unit does not change its Year In Service Date" would apply to the starting Starbase (and any later BATS purchases as well). Just want to confirm.

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Monday, January 11, 2010 - 11:50 pm: Edit

Dale: Bases don't get the discount. Good catch.

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 02:41 am: Edit

Good catch? I was hoping for that discount. ;)

On another issue of bases... it says that LPW bases count against our limit of LPW units. But we are "forced" to start out with an LPW Starbase. Does that cut into our 4 LPW hulls, or do we get 4 LPWs in addition?

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 03:19 am: Edit

You get your four LPW hulls in addition to the Starbase.

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 11:15 am: Edit

Good to know, thanks!

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 01:56 pm: Edit

UTF2.2.41 Says once you occupy a waypoint you can build a base there.
UTF3.13 Says you CAN'T build there.

By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 06:34 pm: Edit

UTF 5.51 refers to UTF 4.13 concerning overcoming ranged reinforcement penelties, and it should refer to 4.131

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - 09:45 pm: Edit

Fred: UTF3.13 is correct.

Robert: Noted

Everyone - I will be at a convention this Thursday through Sunday. No SFBOL meeting for the campaign.

I will try to get errata into the rulebook before I leave, but there won't be too many days to do it.

Two examples to cover discussions from SFBOL.

Timing move and occupation orders:

To get the points for a territory by the end of turn 3, you need to move into the territory. On the next turn, you need to issue the occupy order without being forced to retreat from the zone.

So, move into the territory on turn 2, and occupy on turn 3 without getting forced out of it by someone else's attack.

Where does money to repair ships come from?

Unspent cap. If you spend 1800 of your 2000 initial points, you have 200 points that you can use on turns 1, 2 and 3 to repair damage to ships. (Ship repairs come before the Resource Evaluation Phase).

After you build new units on turn 3, anything you leave unspent can be used to repair units on turns 4, 5 and 6.

How much should you leave unspent? Worst case scenario is having to pay 10% for each ship in your fleet for each of 3 turns. This would necessitate leaving 30% unspent. In reality, you'll probably only need to leave 7 to 10% unspent, though there are other uses for unspent cap.

Well, the Hydran/ISC Fleet is ready. When does the pow-pow begin? :)

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Thursday, January 14, 2010 - 03:05 am: Edit

Rules updated with all errata in the topic included.

Examples added to the sidebar on page 9 for a combined repair and replenishment.

Explanation of "When to Move and Occupy" a resource center added as an example sidebar on page 7

Several clarifications were worked into the replenishment and repair rules, including the status of Plasma D reloads (they're drones), where fighter reload drones come from (one set on the fighter when replenished, reloads come as a percentage of carrier stores each campaign turn).

Page 3 got an expanded Sequence of Play put in.

I have 3 Romulan/Lyran fleet built.
Just need to decide which to use.
:)

Waiting on Ken's spreadsheet.

To my neighbour Hydran/ISC, I'd like you to meet my good buddy Mr. R Torp, he has lots of pow pow for your dinning pleasure !
:)

Cheers
Frank

I am back from my convention, and wading through a pile of freelancing deadlines. I hope to start rebuilding the sheet from M&C on Thursday.

I need an adjacency list.

Roger Rardain and Tos Crawford did excellent work on giving me adjacency lists in M&C - can you two get me an adjacency list in the same format that we did for M&C for DbOM by Sunday?

I would prefer to have the lists done by at least two different people and cover all of the zones in DbOM.

(You can find the format in the M&C archives...)

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - 12:48 pm: Edit

Ken,
I have some time to help with this, but a quick question. What label should we give to the home zones?

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - 03:04 pm: Edit

Fred, see below.

They'll be:

GF_001
KT_001
IH_001
RL_001
HI_001
FB_001

Please put them in the following format:

HI_001OZ_002POZ_003OZ_010

Where the first value is the initial zone, and the other values are the adjacent cells to the first value, listed from lowest number to highest, OZ comes before IR.

(Doing it in this order makes it much much easier for me to double check for transpositions, duplicates and misreads).

Any zone with a Pushstar in it should have P put at the end of its number, like OZ_002 does.

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Thursday, January 21, 2010 - 01:17 pm: Edit

I have Fred's copy of the Adjacency list.

I'd like two others that I can compare it to.

Any takers?

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Thursday, January 21, 2010 - 01:45 pm: Edit

Took me an hour to do it, and that was *with* distractions :-)

Status Update on Orders Spreadsheet:

I had a fairly lucrative (and fast paying) freelance job hit my inbox over the weekend, and I've been trying to get it finished. Fortunately, it's done in Excel, so 'code archeology' on the ship order/inventory sheet will be forthcoming when it's turned in - all work has to be turned in by the end of January.

Apologies for the delay, but the amount of money they were offering was too good to pass up.

By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Friday, January 29, 2010 - 03:48 pm: Edit

Real Life (and bills) > games

Thanks for the update!

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 01:24 am: Edit

We're all looking forward to the game, Ken, but we also know RL for what it is. Good luck, and keep us up to date as you can.

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 - 01:53 pm: Edit

I have one more chunk of that freelancing project due tomorrow night. They liked my work.

They asked "How much to get it to X, Y and Z? And can you have it by Thursday morning?"

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 - 03:50 pm: Edit

Groovy, Ken!

By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Thursday, February 04, 2010 - 04:50 pm: Edit

I can't seem to find a limit on Leader type ships. Should there be one?

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Thursday, February 04, 2010 - 06:02 pm: Edit

Yes, there should. No more than one leader of a particular type in a given fleet. I'll add that to the rules.

By Ken Apel (Kengulnar) on Sunday, February 07, 2010 - 02:58 pm: Edit

Hello ! I am a long time sfb player but new to sfbonline I would like to join a campaign game if there is space available. I am willing to play any race and I have lots of free time ;)
my email is kengulnar73@yahoo.com my sfbonline handle is KenGulnar

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Sunday, February 07, 2010 - 03:52 pm: Edit

Ken,
I am sure Ken (Burnside) would be happy to put you on the list of backup admirals. PLUS, we will probably be farming out some battles, so we'll probably need captains to fly for us as well :-)
