It looks like the Gorn/Fed moves are his Turn 1 moves, and it looks like we have some fights!
Fed/Bad vs Rom/Thol in 037
Rom/Thol vs Hyd/Pel in 041
Might be more, after we see if the Gorn had a real turn 2 move...
By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Monday, May 03, 2010 - 06:20 pm: Edit |
Something got lost in translation with the GornFeds. Those movements are from turn 1. GF one moved to OZ_025, and GF two moved to OZ_029 (no pushstar)

Now that we have a Hex overlay for our battle maps, and some battles coming, lets firm up the rules for battles.
Entrance hexes?
For two fleets, they should likely be opposite, but opposite corners, or opposite hexsides?
Three fleets, in a triangle formaition, largest fleet picking first, if all are entering map at same time.
Defending fleets rule currently say start on a side, does defending a base change that?
Everyone should note the (UTF7.33) rule, there are no quick retreats from battle. (what about using a tractor to move an enemy ship into the death barrier?)
It looks like we should commit our commander options now, if you havent already done so.
Looking forward to watching the Battles!
Give me a yell if you need the map overlays, or a hand setting them up

Opposite hex sides for two player.
Three way opposition for three player
Two opposite hex side openings and two opposite hex corner openings for four player.
I will be updating the map tomorrow night and posting it, and will be uploading the DbOM overlays that I have onto my server this coming weekend. (Hint, hint.)

What info will be know in advance of the battle?
Will the players in the fight and/ or the rest of us know ships before they set up the battle?
Finally, blood in the water!

Dupe message, sorry!
By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Monday, May 03, 2010 - 11:20 pm: Edit |
Ken , can you answer the above questions about the Death barrier, and the commanders options, and the Intel revealed?
Thanks!
Tugger

You cannot force an enemy ship into the death barrier with a tractor beam; the tractor beam breaks and the enemy ship is stopped like a tourney barrier.
If they move past the death barrier it's still the death barrier.
Everyone should be setting up their COs as part of their fleet.
The players in the battle will know what the ships are. Others may come to watch the fight unless the players agree to make it a private game.

FYI,
I will be announcing the fleets in all the battles I am participating in. I will be inviting viewers to all such battles. I want to spread the enjoyment of this campaign as wide as I can. Looking forward to seeing some blood!

Robert, I'm going to ask that you just announce the battles you're in.
Let those who make the effort to watch them learn about your fleets.
Besides, if it's a mystery, more people will show.
By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Tuesday, May 04, 2010 - 04:31 pm: Edit |
Sorry, by 'participate in' I meant battles my fleets are in. Since I want to do at least basic write ups of all the battles I fight, (something I have enjoyed immensly from other threads) I will have to announce the ships participating. I will not post ship lists of battles that I mearly observe, unless invited to by the actual participants.
Good enough, Ken?
By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Tuesday, May 04, 2010 - 06:40 pm: Edit |
Good enough - but post the lists AFTER the battles.
By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Tuesday, May 04, 2010 - 07:12 pm: Edit |
I can see why not to post till the battle has started, am I missing a reason to wait till the battle is done to post a list of ships involved?
Some of the battles might take several sittings to complete, and I would like to post as we go.

Ken:
Might I suggest doing as Dale did with FSC and have Jean create a sub-threat called "battles announced" where you announce all battles that turn (and close them as they are played) with only you have write capabilities.

Oh MAN, that put a smile on my face!
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, May 05, 2010 - 01:18 pm: Edit |
Until this campaign has proven staying power, I'm not going to create a separate topic for its battles.
The Farthest Stars campaign's battles topic is run on an honor code, basically. Dale has no special privileges to be able to post. He got the extra topic because of the longevity of the campaign.

Robert - here's a compromise for you.
All ships should have names. Post the name and the size class of the ship - and whether it's lending EW (is a scout), but don't post the exact classes in your reports.
By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Wednesday, May 05, 2010 - 04:16 pm: Edit |
While I am a bit confused as to the necessity of this, since originally this was going to be a very open information campaign, I will honor your request, Ken.
By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Wednesday, May 05, 2010 - 06:30 pm: Edit |
Map file is updated. We have two battles beginning.
Gentlemen, I'd like to have scheduled start dates for the battles no later than Friday. I'd GREATLY prefer that the battles be done no later than 2 weeks from their scheduled start times.
Romulan-Tholian defeat at OZ_37 will cause a 'cascade' of bumped moves.
