In peacetime, the ISC (perhaps due to Q'naabian influence) would be the most likely Alpha power to follow the Federation's lead in building an SRX. In wartime, the ISC may have had an SR in dock and applied X-technology to it (akin to the R-section reasoning for the CMX seen in Module X1R) and made use of it thereafter.

(Perhaps even with an advanced technology variant, in case the Holdfast-Tholians offered to upgrade the ship during its, um, sojourn in the Alpha Octant?)

Hydran Spearman Assault Cruiser.

I have an idea for a Hydran base buster unit, perhaps Y140ish, basically, take a Ranger, replace the FA/L and FA/R phasers with fusion beams and replace six fighters with APR.

The theory is that it can get close and blast a base, but in practice the scarcity of weapons on a rearm turn was a problem, as was the reduced fighter complement.

The design was (perhaps) resurrected somewhat when the Dragoon was designed (but with a standard phaser battery).

I've been thinking on Hydrans a bit lately and one unit that I've long wished I had when playing (back when) was a sort of combat escort (wouldn't call it that) based on a Lancer hull. Basically, just replace the three fusions with one hellbore and two Ph-G (FA/L + FA/R). The
I would run this ship along side of a larger command unit or BCH or DN. It's job would be off turn defense and deterant. It's hellbore would almost never be fire as part of the larger fleet/squadron salvo but would constantly be there as a threat (or as the weapon the enemy fogets about). It's primary active job would be the continuous elimination of seeking weapons using it's phasers. This ship would rarely fire on other ships except during the clean up process.

I have in the past proposed the Commanders Ed. Firehawk as Romulan medium cruiser (failed CA prototype actually. It has Gs not Ss:P). Question: while this didn't get much support then, has something like it been published or can I re-submit it?

actually, another idea for this ship, that would be uniquely Hydran, would be as a "fighter leader". With nearly every ship providing some fighters, this ship could escort the fighters to a target.

This ship works as a DD since it seems to be an "oddball Knight". On the Lyran border, the HB can be used on an ESG. On the Klingon boarder, the forward Ph-Gs can knock down drones (from ships or scatterpacks). So it works "in the fleet".

If needed, the flagship can order this ship and the fighters to "take out a target". This ship tries to cover the Stingers so that they can get to the "feared range" of less than 3 hexes.

So this ship makes sense as, yet another, DD class for the Hydrans. It is somewhere between a Knight and a DE. Once battles started to *regularly* have 12+ stingers in them, there would be a need for a quasi-DE when you have a "carrier's worth" of stingers but no "true carrier" in the battle.
