Take care, you will be missed!

Well if this campaign is still going I will take over for Hype .. not a fan of Hydran or Peladine but I have some time :) ... btw that's a big if if this is still going. Also if somebody else would rather take over HYPE go for it

Benoit: Just sign back up :P

What is it about these campaign rules? =)

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Friday, July 30, 2010 - 11:16 pm: Edit

These rules don't know how stubborn we are. :-)

By Benoit Rheaume (Bneus) on Saturday, July 31, 2010 - 06:23 pm: Edit

1st Problem with multi player campaigns is they are dependent on ALL players to put in the time.

2nd Add the fact that when a player is being destroyed on all sides he just leaves.

Somehow we have to make rules that still work when players ADD or LEAVE the campaign. Or decide to do nothing 1 turn.

3rd Territory based campaigns dont work, where it is too easy to have 2on1 fights, hence eliminate a player whatever his space faring skill.

With warp tech, you should be able to get to any destination in a short time, the only fights that should happen are at solar systems and on the planets and bpv producing sites in that same system. Hence no tactical/reactional movements on hexes, but on areas.
If you want a good example just look at homeworld fights in fed&empire.

4th when the head player starts to distance the others, most of the time, all the other players gang up on him. Then he starts losing territory and the campaign doesnt advance.
If there is a way to make places determined on the achievements of the player and not his BPV producing abilities, it will give players more incentives to be more aggressive, much like DbOM.

as for me im out, i may be back another time. Im just taking a break and playing other games for a while :) I will still be peaking at the forums.

Sorry to hear your leaving Bneus, I liked your style.
Do we know if Ken B. has past under the wheel or what?

By Ken Apel (Kengulnar) on Monday, August 02, 2010 - 04:05 pm: Edit

You forgot to mention problem #5 The moderator falls off the face of the earth, lol

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Monday, August 02, 2010 - 04:40 pm: Edit

Good point, Ken.

By John Smith (Johnsmith) on Tuesday, August 03, 2010 - 11:03 pm: Edit

I don't know that I agree with all of Benoit's points, but certainly a campaign does require a dedicated person to run the backround stuff. Having run campaigns in other game systems, I can say that it's generally at least 3 times as much work as simply playing.

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 12:31 am: Edit

I'll echo John's sentiment, but I disagree with Benoit that territory based campaigns don't work. Been running mine for 39 months, and its still anybody's game, although we've had two races eliminated so far.

By Fred J. Kreller (Kreller1) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 12:50 am: Edit

Naughty! You used the "r" word! *hides under a blanket*

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 01:00 am: Edit

And I will continue to do so. :)

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 07:16 am: Edit

I don't count here on the BBS as "in print". If I did, I'd not be able to get any proofreading/editing done, let alone work at my RL job ...

By glenn somerfield (Sumo) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 04:18 pm: Edit

...i really enjoyed the first round fights in the game...the loss was worth it ...

is anyone interested in listing our last moves publicly?

By Benoit Rheaume (Bneus) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 04:39 pm: Edit

Im not saying they dont work, Im saying that a campaign should be foolproof from a player leaving the campaign or even the moderator himself leaving.

If there is a way to make an interesting campaign that way, it is way more resilient and fun IMO.

Whats the "R" word again?

By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 05:17 pm: Edit

I have no objection, Sumo.

By Benoit Rheaume (Bneus) on Wednesday, August 04, 2010 - 10:02 pm: Edit
