Orders sent 8)

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Saturday, October 30, 2010 - 12:14 pm: Edit

James beat you to it, Ken - which means you JUST got edged out of the running for "First person to turn in orders three turns in a row if nobody else is late" bonus VP.

(Ken was the first person to turn in orders on turn 4 and turn 5. There were late orders for both turn 4 and 5. If Ken had been first and there were late orders on turn 6, Ken would've gotten a bonus VP. James got his orders in before Ken this time.)

Ken,
The orders I sent a couple weeks ago are still a go.

By Stephen Henson (Erebus) on Sunday, October 31, 2010 - 11:58 am: Edit

I put a message, but it never posted.

I told Ken I'd be able to help run some battles, maybe one a week, preferably a weeknight between 5 to 10 pm PST.

Email me at garenyth@yahoo.com (not at my profile email address).

Anybody still out out of curiosity (sick of waiting for the pow pow :)

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Thursday, November 04, 2010 - 02:46 pm: Edit

Well, I am asking if people want to start up a second instance of the campaign.

I have three sets of orders in; deadline is Monday.

By Benoit Rheaume (Bneus) on Thursday, November 04, 2010 - 05:45 pm: Edit

my orders we're in for 3 days

By James Bunker (Valonqar) on Thursday, November 04, 2010 - 06:36 pm: Edit

Alright all, lets just confirm if we have sent in our orders cause something might be lost.

Valonqar orders sent in.

By James Bunker (Valonqar) on Thursday, November 04, 2010 - 08:08 pm: Edit

Second instance hmm. You mean another DBOM campaign in a different arena? Same rules or will this have a different twist? I am open to the idea.

I am also interested in a fresh start Dbom campaign. As preferably a player but if not alternate. My callsign is GaiusFrackingBaltar or GFB on here. Look forward to hearing more on this new campaign.

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 01:08 am: Edit

Fresh start or (what I think he is saying) a second campaign running concurrent to this one :)

i.e I don't think this one is broke :)

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 11:56 am: Edit

This would be a second instance of the same rules. It is not stopping or halting DbOM 1.

It would use the same map and spreadsheet

I would be tweaking a few things to make some of the materials easier to manage.

I will run a second instance of DbOM if I get 6 players and two alternates. I will accept DbOM 1 players as alternates, but I don't want a situation where if someone has to drop out of the campaign due to time commitments they leave two campaigns in the lurch.

The primary changes I'd make:

1) Do the revised disengagement timer we came up with.
2) Remove Warp Gates from the map.
3) Ship selection:
A) Everyone picks 15 ships. These ships must have all drone speeds and fighters and refits that you want on them accounted in the price per the normal DbOM rules. There is no 10% discount for older ships. The ship availability rules in DbOM are otherwise unchanged, except as noted here. (No carrier escorts, no PFs, no X ships).
C) If it has its own SSD or R section number, it's a distinct ship. No more than 5 of your 15 ships can be from your secondary race.
D) I will put a list of everyone's ships out, with their book BPVs. Everyone will secretly email me what they think the combat point value of those ships SHOULD be. I will then do a weighted average of the totals (Book BPV is counted twice, the highest vote from other players is discarded, and the results are summed and divided by 6, rounded up.)
E) Your BS and Star Base are list SFB BPV, If you want ground bases, they're going to be one of your 15 ship slots. (Hint: Ground bases make for very sucky scenarios)
F) Every 6 months, each player may retire one ship class and put up a new one; this new class goes through the procedure above to find its Consensus Point Value. Once you have retired a ship class, you may not unretire it. (This prevents someone from do-si-doing and trying to get a lower price on someething.)
G) Any ship that is 'Unique' counts against the ship class purchase list (like the Fed BB, for example) and you may only have one instance of it. Ever. If that ship gets lost, it's lost for good and you might as well retire the ship class on your next opportunity.

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 04:33 pm: Edit

By a fresh start i meant letting other players run a similar campaign using the DbOM rules because they seem to be producing fun battles. Don't think anyone wants the first one to end others just want to play too.

Someday we should really let Ken try the player side for a change I think he would enjoy it.

By James Bunker (Valonqar) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 05:37 pm: Edit

My opinion on Warp Gates. I am not using them because they are entirely to random! It currently is a suicide mission to go through one. I would be more inclined to use one if it was connected to ONLY the others gates. Maybe random at first use, and with more research narrowing the odds.

By Robert Grey (Tugger) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 06:11 pm: Edit

Warp Gates will be more useful in the end game. Right now we need our fleets on the front lines. In time, however, you might well end up with more points than places to put fleets, and then having raiding fleets that can show up behind enemy lines becomes interesting.

Define ship class

" If it has its own SSD or R section number, it's a distinct ship. No more than 5 of your 15 ships can be from your secondary race. "

Here's the list of people I've got for DbOM II (I will want to come up with a different name for it to keep things straight).

Leslie Richardson (The_Geek)
Josh Driscoll (GaiusFrakingBaltar)
Stephen Henson (Erebus)
James Bunker (Valonqar) (Alternate*)

So, three more regulars and one more alternate and we can launch.

The title for this campaign will be The Abattoir of Compromise.

By James Bunker (Valonqar) on Friday, November 05, 2010 - 11:59 pm: Edit

lol, Abattoir as in slaughter house? Or did you mean Arbitrators? Not sure this isn't a freudian slip on the overseer's part.

Thanks for the smiles Ken.

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Saturday, November 06, 2010 - 12:08 am: Edit

Yes, James. Abattoir as in slaughterhouse. It is, after all, a Diplomacy game. :)

By Ken Burnside (Ken_Burnside) on Saturday, November 06, 2010 - 12:41 am: Edit

Peter Thoenen is in, provided he doesn't have to fly any battles before February.
