Andromedan Consecrator Construction Yard

In the Lesser Magellanic Cloud, the Andromedans were noted as building three Desecrator starbases in total. The first was completed in Y145, and supported the first wave of Andromedan conquest until the Triple Pact forces managed to destroy it in Y154. The second Desecrator was brought online in Y152; it took up the slack (of keeping the inter-galactic RTN link operational) until it in turn was crippled by a Magellanic task force in Y163. At this point, the third Desecrator (completed in Y158) became the primary node into the LMC; it was the base which supported the invasions of the Alpha and Omega Octants, and which the Operation Unity task force was mostly aimed at.

However, it is the fate of the second Desecrator which I wanted to turn to here. For reasons unknown, the Andromedans apparently left this base in its crippled state until Y200; when they used it as the production facility for the Devastator battleship encountered in the historical timeline (and, presumably, the Devastators and Devourers which bedeviled the ill-fated Operation Codominion of the alternate timeline).

My idea was that the second Desecrator needed an extensive re-configuration in order to allow it to facilitate the construction of battleships. In particular, the base would, in my view, remove the systems required to anchor the inter-galactic RTN.

This would make a "Consecrator" variant unable to allow the Andros to maintain the link by itself; keeping the third Desecrator as the key hub for the Unity forces to target. (It might still have a limited DisDev capacity, but only at the same intra-galactic level at which Satellite Bases operate.)

In terms of visuals, I was envisioning the starbase with massive pylons reaching below the central hull (larger versions of the ones seen in Adam's 3D model for the Dominator)... with arcs of energy re-molecularising the materials stored within the base into the various components of the massive battleship taking shape one molecule at a time beneath its massive shadow.

From a campaign perspective, an Andro player would have a (very expensive) way to locally produce motherships; but pay a significant price (in terms of losing the redundancy a second Desecrator provides as an inter-galactic RTN hub). Indeed, one could go as far as to require an Andro player to have at least one Desecrator; so there would need to be at least two before one could then be converted into a Consecrator.

We know that all Andromedan cargo haulage was performed by Andromedan motherships, so we can infer that the pressure that the Galactics were putting on the Andromedan forces meant that resources could not be gathered and transported in sufficient quantity to maintain the war and repair the crippled Desecrator simultaneously. What materials they were able to gather presumably went into the construction of the Devastator. In the Dark Future timeline, the Galactics were much less successful, so more ships would have been available for resource haulage, which is presumably why the Andromedans were able to deploy Devastators in that timeline.
