Dale- no frigates. DDs and DWs only.
As regards the Peladine, until we know more about where things stand they will not be allowed. Hate to do it but I need to know what we're using is a) legal and b) official.

Mike, I understand.

Mike when were you thinking of starting? Im keen but I really dont want to confirm my time until I work out how much of my limited SFBOL time I will have with Empires at War.
Im often on SFBOL, but rarely at the times when you guys in the US (or even UK/Europe/Middle East) are on.

Jason, Jason, Jason, I went to the trouble of including that information at the start of this topic and you didn't even read it!
Seriously, I have 7/25 as the planned start date. Note that does not mean you have to immediately start playing scenarios, it just starts the four-month clock.
By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 08:14 am: Edit |
So far we have three squadrons submitted- Bakija (Gorn), Daltwisney (Hydran), Princeton (Gorn)
A bunch of people- GFB, JAspar, Brigman, The Rock, EOL, and EastCoastFolk- have expressed varying levels of interest but have not yet submitted a squadron.
Signup deadline is Monday, July 11 (no need to submit your empire or ship selections at that time)
Ship selections due by Monday July 18th
Phase 1 begins on Monday, July 25
I will aim to have the four scenarios for phase one posted before the 18th in case it affects anyone's ship selections. Feel free to change your ships around as much as you want through the 18th; after thaht they are set in stone.

Phase 1 info:
Phase objective
Your squadron will have an overall goal in addition to the individual scenarios: escorting a convoy of freighters. Each squadron will be escorting 6 freighters (2 F-l, 4 F-S). The freighters will not actually appear in all scenarios; for example when battling another player they will be considered to be just off the edge of the map. But you will have to maneuver them through some of the other scenario types. Bonus points will be awarded for each freighter that survives to the end of the phase.
Scenarios
One scenario will involve a battle against an historical enemy player (as much as player empire selection will allow). One scenario will be against a non-historical enemy player determined by random draw. One scenario will be single player, likely meaning a Monster! And the last scenario will be something of a surprise, but you can expect terrain to be a feature.

Let the "Smack Talk" begin:
The Tholian Empire declares its annexation of all small maps it encounters. We will require the transfer of one F-S in compensation from any race intruding on our new territory. Failure to comply with our demands will result in your expulsion from our space atom by atom if need be.
Mike, I'm in and my race shall be the Tholian Holdfast. Thanks for putting this camp together. Ship selection, I think i can say that it will be some mix of 4 DD/DDP's till the YIS changes to Y176.
By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 09:28 am: Edit |
Knowing the 4 phases would be nice so we can choose our ships accordingly.
Of course, not knowing works as well !
Looks like you are listing which race players are taking when they sign up which is a good idea.
In an effort to avoid a civil war, I may change my race but will let you know as more players sign on.
Thanks for doing this Mike !
Cheers.

I am interested in Orion or Jindarians

Mike,
Couple of quick questions.
a- Starting locations are ?
b- Starting WS is ?
c- Map size is ?
Ok, thats 3 questions !
Cheers
Frank

Both squadrons will begin the game in hex 2115, WSIII.
LOL!
a- opposite map corners, i.e. NW and SE or NE and SW
b- WSIII and speed max for all player v player action, otherwise will be defined by the scenario
c-42x30 (standard map). I may increase this slightly close-and-hose ships seem to have too great an advantage.

Christopher: welcome to the campaign! You are already earning bonus points
By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 01:07 pm: Edit |
Sterling: either is fine, though I will place some historical limits of the types of weapons in the Orion option mounts. There are some rules around that but I haven't read them in a while; I'll do that tonight and let you know what could be allowed so you can decide Orion or Jindo.
Personally I think Jindo would be really cool; their ships are really interesting.

Mike would love to join in, in the fun as the hated Fed's if there are no objections.

I will be in, just need to put fleet together (maybe tomorrow night). Waffling between Rom, Balduvi (or however they are spelt), Jindo, and Zin

Just had a trial run with my Gorns of BDL+, BDD+, DDW vs those nasty Thols 2*DD and 2*DDP.
The Thols will have a hard time collecting compensation as they are now down 2 DD's.
After the 2nd DD blew up, the 2 DDP's tucked their pebbles under their rocks and headed for the mountains !
DDW sustained about 25 internals. No other damage other then shield.
To be fair, ECF is new at fleet battles. He found EW was just not freindly for him dealing with ECP torps and EM and self generating EW.
Was fun !
Cheers

ECF- just FYI as this campaign is allowing just about any empire feel free to choose a Neo-Tholian squadron if you like those ships better.
And holy #$%& I just saw the Gorn DDW- that is some serious plasma! Don't panic Frank I'm not ruling it at this time but will need to read the ship specific rules.

Im thinking Vudar or Jindarians. I suspect Jindarians will struggle against at least half the other empires, and probably do okay against the other half, but I do love their ships.
Vudar in Y175 have some very nice looking ships, and having never used them before, could be fun to play.

Hmmm, interesting premise here.
I haven't been much interested in SFBOL for a while, but I'd like to see the rules in effect.
Mike, check yer email.
And due to EW, I wouldn't take Tholian DDPs, just the DDs.
By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 05:44 pm: Edit |
DDW is a beast when it launches plasma, but that's not where it really excels. My home group calls it the "Carronade King" for a reason.
By Christopher M Schrader (Eastcoastfolk) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 05:55 pm: Edit |
I had considered the Neo-Tholian NDD but it is Y178 and NFP thats 2 strikes there. When it comes to collecting my tolls it will be easier with the Toll Both set up in the corner. That is 3 DD's in the pinwheel with a strength 10 web around them and the forth on top tacking toward the threat.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 06:51 pm: Edit |
What is the Gorn DDW? I cant see it on my list of ships.
