The Captain of the DWL Gryphon opened up the sealed letter from the Patriarch.
As he sat there surveying the final touches the repair crews were doing, he wondered exactly where his Patriarch was going to send his destroyer squadron next.
They had just come from a successful raiding mission behind enemy lines, but not without casualties and damage to all 3 ships of the squadron.

A low growl eminated from the Captain's throat as he read the letter.
The Xorkian Emperor named Sir_Akira was organizing a destroyer squadron tournament.
The latinum prize is enough to build several Kzinti Fleets should the Hegemony win the tournament.
Potentially bringing the Hegemony to Glory days never before seen !

News of this tournament had spread throughout the Galaxy.
Thing is, squadrons are using live rounds so getting blown up was very real !!
He had wondered if the Hegemony was going to send a fleet, it seemed we were after all !

The repair crews had finally left and he was anxious to get to this tournament for the glory of the Hegemony.
"Helm, bring us about to 2011 mark 0718, warp 5 "

"Aye Captain " came the young ensign's reply.

The Captain suddenly sat bolt upright in his chair as he realized the ship was turning to Port instead of Starboard.

"Ensign " the Captain said with a purring in his voice.
"How are we to get to the tournament if we are going in the opposite direction ? "

"SORRY Sir, won't happen again " blurted out the ensign as his claws were rapidly making corrections to the helm on the control panel as the ship slowly turned to Starboard.

"See to it that it does not " answered the Captain.

The captain settled into his chair thinking of their chances.
With the DWL Gryphon, DD Unicorn and DD Minotaur, their chances were slim.
He knew other races had better quality destroyer ships but for the Glory of the Hegemony, they would die trying to win this Destroyer Squadron tournament !

Have you decided on the scenario's for this first 4 month session?

Is the single player scenario the same one for each player?

By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Sunday, July 10, 2011 - 07:18 pm: Edit

Yes and yes.

Mike, I was wondering whhich race for you to host the Tourney.
I now think I should have used Ted Fay's race, the Xorkians !
:)

Cheers
Frank

Dale:
I hate you. That song is stuck in my head now. I'm going to have to listen to something really catchy to cleanse my brain. Thank the Gods Slacker isn't blocked at work.

Mike, I think Im going to drop out of this. Dont think I will have the time, and my first priority should be EaW which I signed up to first.

Given how many people have said they are interested, I dare say you wont miss me !!

Perhaps if things go well with my time I will join in for the next phase of the game. It looks like a lot of fun.

BTW: my Little Bee fleet would surely have defeated you all !!

By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Monday, July 11, 2011 - 08:37 pm: Edit

LOL OK Jason, thanks for letting me know and you are welcome to join in later!

PHASE 1 OBJECTIVE

BEGIN SECURE TRANSMISSION

TO: DESTROYER SQUADRON COMMANDER

YOUR ORDERS ARE TO ESCORT FREIGHTER CONVOY FROM HOME SYSTEM TO MINING COLONY QX-57 WHERE FREIGHTERS WILL LOAD MATERIEL. NEXT PROCEED TO SYSTEM CX-1 TO DELIVER MATERIEL. NEXT RETURN TO HOME SYSTEM. MATERIEL CRITICAL REPEAT CRITICAL TO WAR EFFORT MAKE BEST SPEED AND AVOID ALL CONTACT.

END TRANSMISSION

By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 11:33 am: Edit

Your phase one objective will be to deliver as much cargo as possible to system CX-1. CX-1 is the location of a top-secret military research facility known as The Deep (so named because of its remote location in deep space). Its very existence is a closely guarded secret, and its discovery by the enemy would be disastrous.

The freighters are picking up some specialized raw materials from a mining station in system QX-57. QX-57 is somwhat unique in that it is filled with a radioactive dust that when refined is very useful in certain weapons technology.

The route you are taking from QX-57 to The Deep is outside normal travel routes to reduce chances of contact. But many...things.... can be found in the depths of space...

By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 11:43 am: Edit

Phase One scenarios:

1. Encounter at Mining Colony QX-57 (solo monster scenario)

2. Convoy intercept (player versus player, historical)

3. Convoy intercept (player versus player, random)

4. Lurker in The Deep (?????)

By Mike Johnson (Akira) on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 11:44 am: Edit

Phase one objective bonus points:

12 points for each large freighter that delivers cargo to The Deep

6 points for each small freighter that delivers cargo to The Deep
