Thats it even if you don't have alot of power just run to the planet and then just keep pounding it I guess. It took me 3 Turns to get to planet but I was going with lots of general reinforcement and also wanted the freighters to get past the monster safely.

Just as a handy point of help--the BSC has 2x special sensors that can loan you ECCM (and really, it doesn't have anything to do *but* loan you ECCM) which will help against the monster's natural ECM plus the dust cloud.

By Troy Williams (Jungletoy) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 05:54 pm: Edit

Yes the BSC was tremendous help, but the monster seemed to like the additional flavor provided by the DWS 3 sensors...

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 06:31 pm: Edit

Nothing to do? Why, it has phasers of its own! Once you draw the monster to r2 of the base, hit that sucker with everything you've got!

By Peter D Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 06:37 pm: Edit

Ah, yeah, there is certainly that. I never got within R8 of the base...

By Troy Williams (Jungletoy) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 06:56 pm: Edit

Awwwww, I want a do-over! The BSC has 6xP-1 and 5x P-3....

By Majead Farsi (Devil) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 07:37 pm: Edit

Hmm forgot all about that. It could have saved me 1-2 turns of blasting. Never mind, next time.

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 08:07 pm: Edit

Actually the cheese way to do this is:

1: Bum rush planet on T1 and T2.

2: Park everything around planet and wait infinite turns while the base slowly wears the monster down with ph2 and ph1's running 12 ECCM.

3: Move off at speed 7 to avoid dust.

Win

BTW Fred and I are aiming for Saturday the 6th for our historic fight.

To you get bonus points for taking out the Beast in 65 impulses?

By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - 09:54 pm: Edit

My game lasted 28 turns.
Two turns to get the DD squadron to the safety of the planet and 24 turns to conduct extensive repairs to shields and repair 2 warp engines on each DD.

The 4 F-S were all contaminated hulks by turn 2.

On T27 the squadron and the 2 F-S moved out at speed 4 with max general.

The beast ended up within R10 of the planet after 96 turns of random movement ( yep, I rolled 96 times to get the final hex for the beast ).

The beast ended up in same hex as th esquadron and the 2 F-L's. thing is, the F-Ls suffered th eworse of the attack by getting 15 each which took down a shield and thus ended up having all crew units die to raditaion.

I forgot about the BSC use, forgot to have trac & HET power to get the F-Ls to saftey for T27 after the beast attacked ( which I could have done easily enough ) and just blew the whole scenario completely.

I do admit I am not a strong solo scenarios player.
:)

Peter,
That is essentially what I did, though I speed it up from infinite to a lot of turns by occasionally putting a ship out where the beast could get it - the rest of my fleet at R1 and blasting it. Then moving back into the planet ring to repair.

Would have been faster if I knew what the BCS was and if I remembered the beast "took damage" by eating shields. But either way, long but 100% chance of victory with 0 possibility of damage.

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 - 12:52 pm: Edit

Which is how I "Finished" the game in 64 impulses. I charged the F's at best speed no AFC and I had my DWs charge the monster and draw it off, and all but one was in orbit in the safe zone on 2.32 and the one DW exception was from a miscount in hexes and it was at r2.

I didn't bother finishing the scenario since I was completely safe and would take infinite turns "if needed" to shoot the monster away.

BTW technically it was the civilians driving the monster off since it takes phasers to hurt the thing and I don't have Phasers only Lasers.

Filled the monster in 65 imps, beat that!

My trash talk for the day.

Declassified Communications Intercepts Y174

From:Secretary of Resources, Vesta

To: Minister of Security, Sulfur Dioxide

Subject: BEST logistical location recommendation QX-57

The Department of Resources wishes to direct all surplus production, currently warehoused at a number of production centers, to the mining colony QX-57 on the planet Pire. This should serve as an ideal storage location for our surplus production. The colony has large internal storage for the highest value items. The remainder of the planets surface is covered with abandoned mines well suited to the storage of bulk minerals. QX-57 facilities were assessed by our Recovery Division under the cover of determining it's value as a repair center. I have reviewed the report and determined that we can use the facility as the logistical hub of operation BEST.

The location of Pire in sector 2918 is seldom patrolled and outside the detection range of our fixed installations. The radiation, heat, and dust content of the surrounding space will prevent curious sensor workers from inquiring into activities there. If the Department of Transportation can adapt the robotic pilots from the Federation Freighters to operate the DoT's existing vessels then we can reduce the number of workers required to be risked in this operation.

I have advised the Department of Isolation of the number of DoR staff required to be informed on QX-57 and provide administrative support to BEST. As the only member of my department cleared for this operation I can provide little more input until I have senior staff cleared for BEST support.

From the Tholian band “Rocks in the Holdfast”

Set to the music of Bon Jovi's “Bad Medicine”

Bad Intelligence

I ain't got a freighter got a squadron of DD's
It'll take more than one mission to prove my mastery
I got lots of phasers but not that many threes
Gonna take more than a photon to blast these shields off of me
I got nimble status and a turn mode that is A

First theres heat …
That's what you get for playing this game
Then radiation …
You play a monster thinking your shields are tough
In the dust …
It eats many times on one shield thats the same
And now my crew have parished where's the radiation drug

I played with some bad intelligence
Bad intelligence is what I used
Won't give up, It's just bad intelligence
There ain't no Dam Con that can fix my SSD

Bad, bad Intelligence
Bad, bad Intelligence

Next I'll face the Baduvai
VRF giving me a chill
and what's this Multi-Layer Shield
How can I get a kill
Packing Charged Partical Accelerators
and a dubble Sensor track
I could use some more small phasers
To get theses Mass Driver Missels of my back

Maybe if I for a Pinwheel
They will break off there attack

As they close …
Watch their speed if it's slow
Keep'em on your nose …
The CPA's are going to blow
Don't turn your back …
Don't do range two or it'll end your show
That DWD has 2 reloads and double rack

I played with some bad intelligence
Bad intelligence is what I used
Won't give up, It's just bad intelligence
There ain't no Dam Con that can fix my SSD

Bad, bad Intelligence
Bad, bad Intelligence

I don't understand why I fighting them at all
The LMC 250 000 lightyears away
Their ships must realy haul
Well it's better than Seltorians they haven't found us yet

I played with some bad intelligence
Bad intelligence is what I used
Won't give up, It's just bad intelligence
There ain't no Dam Con that can fix my SSD

Bad, bad Intelligence
Bad, bad Intelligence

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Sunday, July 31, 2011 - 05:42 am: Edit

Chris that's hilarious.

BTW to make it worse.
All my Launchers on the DWs are Type IIs, meaning they have 2 reloads. The DWD is a Bombardment type that means those 5 racks have 10 magazines between them with each magazine holding 6 missiles with 100 spaces in cargo

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 05:33 pm: Edit

Survived my trip to the Grand Canyon with two families and a dog. When I stop twitching, I'll get on my first scenario - and also set up a time to play Troy, who's apparently my first opponent. ;)

By Andrew J. Koch (Droid) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 07:12 pm: Edit

Dale. I don't know about anyone else here, but I am glad you survived.

By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Monday, August 01, 2011 - 10:58 pm: Edit

Thanks Andy!

The scenery was beautiful. Exhausting tho and I can't say I recommend cramming four adults, five kids and a crazed Blue Heeler into one van for a long drive...

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 12:30 am: Edit

Blargh. Got through turn 1 of my fight with the displacer beast and my plan was working perfectly...
Until I started EA for turn 2 and realized I'd spent too much warp (but not too much power) on the freighters.
*sigh* I'll start over again tomorrow and try it WITHOUT cheating this time. :P

By Troy Williams (Jungletoy) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 11:41 am: Edit

Woot! Flipper and the Garbage Can Gang vs Cats without Hats once Dale recovers from Familitus Proximitus.

By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 02:35 pm: Edit

Troy Latta,
When your done, drop me a line and we'll get our game on !
:)

Cheers
Frank

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 03:36 pm: Edit

Yeah, that'll be interesting. Should look something like the gladiator arena in Life of Brian, lithe little slave skipping merrily away from a lumbering armored giant...

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 - 11:45 pm: Edit

It's all over but the cleanup.
-=MEMORANDUM=-
The Drexari must be protected.
Convoy has reached planet QX-57 with zero damage. Cargo delivered. New cargo being loaded.
Battle Destroyers have reached QX-57 with some shield damage. 2nd Battle Destroyer took 7% warp damage from hit by displacer beast. This is nearly repaired. Heat damage reduced aft hull to 50%, will be repaired as soon as warp repairs are complete. Radiation caused positronic shutdown in 10% of crew. Shields are being restored to prevent furhter contamination.
Once all shields are repaired on all combat units, Operation Lure will commence to bring the beast close enough that phasers from the base can render it sated. Science readings estimate creature is currently exactly 61% full after four minutes of combat.
The Drexari will be protected.
