Paul,
Watching a battle between Klingons and Hydrans.
Klingons have ECM drones working but when the loaned ECM is entered in the " Loaned ECM/ECCM ", it does not show up for veiwers nor the Hydran player.
The Klingon owned LAS though does show loaned EW from the drones but not the warships, D7AB, D6C, F5DB, G2C.
Cheers
Frank

You know what would be great, is a way to track natural-source EW, which would then be added to the total EW just like lent EW. It's more common than you might expect, because you get it from EM, but once in a while you also get some genuine natural EW.

Paul,
Please disregard my above post as we found the problem.
Seems the Klingon player did add the lent EW but to his PoS and PoT markers for the ships in question and we missed that part.
Thanks.
Cheers
Frank

Hey Paul,
In impulse activity with a text order the overarching order shows but the text I type in can on only be seen by me and I cut and paste it again for the opponent to see.
I have the latest MAC client and run OSX.

Paul,
I have noticed in several of my most recent games that my opponent's 'allocation of damage' does not appear in the log. My ship's 'damage allocation' does, and my opponent can review his damage, but we can't see each others. Is this by design or is there something wrong with the client?

I will look into this.

I think there may be a bug with mine counters.
In a recent game all mines pseudo status was visible to opponent and spectators.
I don't remember it ever showing that information in other games, my dummy T Bombs want to look as menacing as possible.

Paul,
I hope the holiday season has been a good one for you.
I just had a quick question.
I recently updated to the newest version of the client but now my ability to log-in offline has disappeared. It only lists the online options and authenticated mode. I have posted on the BBS, asking if anyone else has this problem but no one has responded. I was wondering if the deletion of working off-line was included in the new update or do I just have a bug and need to uninstall and re-install the client on my computer? Thanks for your time in this matter.
Have a happy new year!
Kirk

It is an unfortunate side effect of the "anti-piracy" movement SFBOL recently underwent. Since all ship defintions are now stored serverside, logging in offline would only get you a map and nothing to put on it.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, December 31, 2011 - 10:28 am: Edit |
Kirk,
Paul Scott is right. But you can use the "Authenticated Mode" to achieve the same basic thing. It will allow you to start up a room offline and have access to the ships.
Josh,
When it comes to the mines. I have fixed this and it will be in the next release.

Thanks for the response gentlemen!

Paul,
I just updated the client last night.
I noticed there is no longer the option of going in ' Offline mode '.
So I used the ' Authenticated mode ', loaded up my Campaign Master game save and now I am unable to move any pieces around on my Campaign map.
I can add a piece.
I also noticed all the pieces in the Campaign room are now colored grey. They no longer have the Empires colors.
I tried to make me Game Master but client tells me the Game Master is already assigned !
I cannot move pieces around in my individual campaign map for each Empire saves as well.
I have 6 maps on the go , the Master and 1 map for each Empire.
Not sure what to do here ?
I have far too many pieces to count and I do need to move them around but I am unable to do so .
Starting from scratch is not an option I prefer !
:>(
I need to access the pieces ASAP to process the EaW Y169 moves for my Admirals.
Can you help me out please?
Thanks !
Cheers
Frank

When I update to the newest version its downloading and installing both the SFB update and SFB campaign update but if I check for updates again it says I dont have them.
Im not sure I do have them because in a regular SFB game I cant find the Klingon firing arcs chart, which was supposed to be added in the update.
Anyone else having this problem?

I had a problem revealing my ESGs to an opponent recently. This has happened probably about a dozen times in the last six years. One of these days it's going to crop up in a RAT or something and could understandably cause hard feelings. I don't know if it's a glitch with my machine(s), or if it's a bug. Or maybe it's a sign I should retire Thunderpussy.
The next time it happens I will send a bug report.

I haven't played non-tournament since before the client was changed to use server-side ship definitions. Now my SSDs don't work.
With a fresh install of the latest client, I find I can not see any graphical SSDs in non-tournament rooms that I join. I can see shuttle SSDs. However, if I create a new room and add ships there, I can see those. And if I create a room, add the ships that didn't work in the other room, then go to the other room, I still can't see the ships. This is all in regular online mode, no offline mode hijinx to complicate matters.
[edit: Some rooms it works, others it doesn't. No restart, update, whatever; I can have a working room and a broken one open at the same time.]
I also can't see any way to edit ship definitions any more, as the definition files don't seem to exist on the client. Is it no longer possible to make new ships by modifying existing ships?
In other news, the JNLP version of the game is broken and won't run, saying the code is unsigned. You have to do the full client download.

The missing SSDs might be related to a particular game or particular players. I'll see if it also occurs with other games, so don't worry too much about it yet.

There is an error in the client regarding pseudo-speed calculations. Currently, the client asks each player if their ship is using impulse power, and factors it into the speed calculation. However, the status of using impulse is remembered for the rest of the game. This can result in errors in the calculation later on when the use of impulse power may change.
The client should forget the previous answer to the "using impulse" question and re-ask it whenever a new tractor link is established, as well as under the following circumstances (I have attempted to be exhaustive here, but there might be other cases I haven't thought of):
1) Whenever any linked ship changes to, or from speed zero (a ship is not considered to be "using impulse" when it is stopped, even if it uses impulse power for movement during other portions of the turn)
2) On impulse 1 of any turn, since the use of impulse for movement may have changed during EA
3) Whenever a ship makes an unplotted speed change which may have occurred with reserve impulse power
4) Whenever an additional ship is attached to or detached from the set of ships linked together by tractor in a multi-ship tractor link, regardless of which ship's tractor beam is being used (because only the largest ship in a multi-ship tractor amalgamation can use its impulse, and attaching or detaching a ship may change who the largest ship is). This would only be relevant in a non-tournament game.
As an alternative to all of these, you could just allow any player to request a new impulse speed calculation whenever they feel it necessary. Most of these cases come up rarely, although I've personally run into the first two and there is a reasonable tactical use for the third.
BTW, missing SSD problem has not recurred, so I think it was due to version mismatch.

Josh,
What OS are you running?

I have the same error, running Linux and using the Java platform version. The update manager claims to need the same versions of the same files as Josh noted.
Additionally, the client now always detaches the bullpen chat section from the main window (the one with the room list) and the resulting chat window shows up as a Private-Message window (to which everyone can contribute). When I close the Bullpen window, The room list dutifully notes that I am no longer in the bullpen.
