What is causing the problem in the Windows version of the client (the one with JRE)?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, September 13, 2012 - 06:01 am: Edit

Depends. How old is the installation?

Awesome! Is this something that can be fixed?

Thanks for checking!

I've been looking around to see what resources there might be to allow our PPC Mac using friends to use Java 1.6.

It appears that Apple never published anything later than 1.5.0_19 on OS X 10.4. There are some projects, like soylatte (search for soylatte PPC), out there which are trying to get more recent versions of Java to that version of OS X, but not having a Mac I can't test it, and it does look like it'll need at least a casual familiarity with administrating OS X via the command line to be able to install and properly configure it.

Peter,
Yes. This is something I have fixed. It will be released with the next update.

Sweet. Thanks!

Hey Paul I just started a campaign battle and while in the IA call steps it does not allow me to "execute" ie I hit execute and get no response. While hitting no activity or cancel they follow the correct response but the execute doesn't seem to work or carry through. Neopico my opponent has no issues. As well this is the latest update version.

Kerry,
Have you sent a "Feedback" report?

By Kerry E Mullan (Nomad17) on Tuesday, October 02, 2012 - 01:41 pm: Edit

Just did now if that helps. As well I opened a past tourney game and the same issue holds true there as well.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, October 02, 2012 - 07:21 pm: Edit

Kerry,
Looks like the same issue. as Peter and Andy. The version of Java that you are using is 1.5/5.0 . The solution for Windows is to upgrade. Download the latest installer and re-install SFU Online Client.

Seems to work. Thank you SFB ONLINE guru! Job well done.

Paul, I ran into the same problems, but a fresh install of Java and of the Client (updated to the latest version released today) prevents me from entering or creating a room.

By Xander Fulton (Dderidex) on Thursday, October 04, 2012 - 02:11 am: Edit

Yeah, after today's update of the client, I can no longer enter or join rooms.

This update = very, very bad update!

Have you guys sent in "Feedback"?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, October 04, 2012 - 06:56 am: Edit

Sorry. I see what happened. A client update will be released this morning. Too much to do. Too little time.

By Xander Fulton (Dderidex) on Thursday, October 04, 2012 - 12:20 pm: Edit

Thanks - that update fixed it!

By Peter D Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 07, 2012 - 04:24 pm: Edit

Yes, Paul--that seems to have fixed everything. Thanks!

With the change to "Authenticated mode", Demo accounts now MUST be logged into a server to function. This is a problem because those people who wish to try out the SFBOL service must do everything publicly: whether it's playing a solitaire game or doing stupid things they don't want people to catch them doing (an embarrassment-factor there that might keep some people from spending the time with the software long enough to get hooked on it).

This is somewhat related to my complaint that with no "offline" mode there is no way for me to use a service I pay for when the internet goes out on me (I live out in the mountains. This happens to me about as often as the snow knocks out my power).
