I just played my first game in over four years. Everything went well except for one thing: I can bring up all of the board utilities except for the range tracker. When I try to bring it up the first time, it flickers quickly onto the screen and disappears. It might be a setting on my computer that is keeping that "pop-up" window from opening; however, it does not do the same thing for the other board utilities. I really would like to find a way to monitor the range. Any ideas?

By David Zimdars (Zimdarsdavid) on Thursday, June 06, 2013 - 07:52 pm: Edit

When you change your nickname to something like "AdmiralDZZI_lfg" your rank goes to "cadet".

By David Zimdars (Zimdarsdavid) on Thursday, June 06, 2013 - 07:56 pm: Edit

You can also use /nick to change your handle to the name of any player online and have their rank. The client doesn't check that you are who you say you are.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, June 09, 2013 - 07:43 am: Edit

Ken,
I will look into that.

David,
That has always been the case. The only thing is that you can not play with that new handle. So at some point you will need to change your handle back.

User Defined Units with Drone Racks cannot launch drones. The client reports the launch, but puts no markers on the board, does not add them to the unit list, and does not report their need to move on subsequent impulses. This is probably due to no marker file to display for seeking weapons.

Did you create the ship? If so, what is the race (yes, I know Jean it is empire) that is defined for the ship?

By Mike Kenyon (Mikek) on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - 11:09 am: Edit

I've noted that a LOT of Kzinti ships have issues where you've got a drone rack and an ADD rack labeled the same. For example, the CV has 4 As and an ADD. If it launches from A rack #1, you get two copies of the drone that you launched.

Also, when launching the ADD rack displays the contents of the A rack with the same name, instead of it's own contents. So far, my workaround has been to comment on the launch of Type VI in that segment and then launch them with right-click, launch.

Playing with the new version of the client yesterday, I noticed that the phaser capacitor tracking does not handle gatling phasers correctly. Regardless of the number of pulses I fired in an impulse, it only deducted 0.25 energy.

Another issue is that it does not appear to account for damage correctly. If damage reduces your total phaser capacitor below the current amount of energy in it, you should lose power. (OTOH, losing phasers should not cost you phaser cap energy if your remaining phaser cap is still big enough.)

Paul, do you have any thoughts yet on my range tracker problem?

By Andrew J. Koch (Droid) on Monday, June 17, 2013 - 08:14 am: Edit

Ken,
I had similar trouble with certain random features of the client, such as piece reveal and save games not working. I did a reinstall if the client with the 64 bit JRE version and now everything works fine. If you do the reinstall and find you HAVE the 64 bit version, you can try the non-64 bit version.
Then again you may not be using Windows at all, so my point is moot.

By Ken Rotar (Sir_Krotar) on Monday, June 17, 2013 - 02:19 pm: Edit

I can only use the 32. Tried reinstalling. Didn't help.

Ken,
Have you sent a Feedback?

By Ken Rotar (Sir_Krotar) on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - 02:45 pm: Edit

A feedback?

By Mike Kenyon (Mikek) on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - 05:28 pm: Edit

There's a button in the main screen to send application feedback. I think it ships a lot of the version/state information with it.

By Ken Rotar (Sir_Krotar) on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 - 01:18 pm: Edit

Thanks, Mike. Just sent.

There seems to be a bug where players who join regular SFB games cant see the counter graphics and SSD. So it looks like the ships are not being downloaded automatically unless your one of the players.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 - 08:58 pm: Edit

Josh,
Are you using any custom ships?

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 - 01:51 am: Edit

No its happened several times and the units involved were Hydran, ISC, Peledine and Seltorian.

They seem to show up fine for those that add them or are in the room when the game starts but when an observer joins mid game they don't see the counters and I think the SSD's are spreadsheet form.

By Matthew Potter (Neonpico) on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 - 02:02 am: Edit

I can verify Josh's situation. I popped into a game of Hydrans v ISC. I saw (in my case) the graphical SSDs, but the counters were the default white-on-grey Aux unit that anyone sees when they can't get the real marker. Turn markers, Slip markers, Plasma, and fighters were all using the proper counters. Just the ships were missing counters.
