I don't know if anyone is doing the early DNs, but the C6 is also very close to the C9.

Richard,
Thanks for mentioning that. I will send that to Randy too.

And so are the Romulan K8 and K9, those could also be done with the same background.
By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 09:52 am: Edit |
There is no Romulan K8 that I'm aware of, at least not in any official product. If it does exist, I'd like to see it - where is it?
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 11:12 am: Edit |
Your right Richard there is just the K9R and K9B.
But they are both ships that could be done with the Klingon background art from the C8/9.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 11:53 am: Edit |
Considering that the difference is some rear phasers I'm not seeing a point in a KC8R.
As for how you are, you're irritating my customers, Richard. That can't continue.

Quick question about the ship graphic. Are we applying any kind of filter to the image? The Fed CA has a lot of black in it and the text tends to get muddled by/lost in it. Looking at the Hydran and Andy samples SVC posted, the colors do look a bit more muted. I can do the manipulation on the graphic; just looking for some guidelines.
Also, I'm assuming I should scale down the image before importing it. I've noticed that the Scale setting in the editor affects both the graphic and the boxes. Is there a target size I should shoot for?
Thanks.

That was the problem I had and what I did to fix it is lighten the original graphic like you say and I suggest 30 percent opacity for the Fed. I have the background shaded like that already if you need it I can send you the file.
I tried doing the Fed CA already and was using a box size of 96 x 48 Y and I suggest moving up to 128 Y and 64 x. The boxes were too small on the one I did. But it all depends on the scale you set.
You may want to scale the background down outside the SSD tool in some other program. I was the guy who did the IRQ and INT so from my experience its a process of trial and error to get the ship to look decent.
With the Federation CA I tried doing it and the biggest pain is fitting all the systems from the aft hull where they belong, my advice is resign yourself to the fact that something will have to be moved into the saucer section.
Ill send you what I made maybe that will give you some ideas of things you can try.

I do the backgrounds in a fairly huge scale so you can scale them down.
Nothing sacred about the backgrounds. You can mute them as you find needed. I do the same thing on FC cards with the grey scale ones.

I just downloaded the new update and at least on of the problems with the SSD tool remains.
It wont save the weapon arc drawing settings, ill need to redo all my Hydran ships to update them to the new system for showing fighter launch tubes.

Josh,
I have updated the client this morning to fix the issue with saving the arc position.
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 10:21 am: Edit |
Well I just tried it and I'm having even more issues.
The times I could get the ship to load I set weapon arcs and saved but then the file wont open or opens but wont display in the SSD tool.
It looks like its corrupted at least one of my ship files so I'm wondering am I the only one with this problem? I don't want to ruin any more of my ships trying to make this work so ill just wait and see how the other volunteers fair when they try.

Josh,
I just updated my local copy of the client and it seems fine for me. I able to load 3rd Gen SSDs fine and save them too.
Could you click on the "Send Feedback" button?
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 01:56 pm: Edit |
I sent feedback hope that helps.
By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 06:32 pm: Edit |
Lyran BB sent to Paul.
The phaser arcs is not indicated as I thought they would be.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Update the client maybe?
By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 06:50 pm: Edit |
Client is up to date.
Did that this morning.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 07:06 pm: Edit |
Frank,
You need to specify the arc position after the ship is imported.
Josh,
Were the problems that you were having on ships that you added Shuttle w/Tube or Fighter w/Tube. If so, I found the issue.
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 07:37 pm: Edit |
That may have been it I tried to manually change the box type of the Fighters to Fighter with Tube and then the file became corrupted, it loads but is blank.
What is the best way to fix the fighter box with launch tube problem on the ships I've already started.
I just tried saving the weapon arcs on a Hunter and now its working at least for ships with no fighter launch tubes.
The other issue I was experiencing this morning was loading converted ships, the SSD tool would fail to fully load the image and boxes. When that happened is when the file became corrupted the only bit of information that survives is the movement cost of the unit.
The two ships I lost were the IRQ and DG and I was trying to fix the fighter boxes and set the weapon arcs up when it happened.
Let me know if there is a better way to change the box type for the fighters, I will need to redo those 2 ships I didn't think to make a copy of the file before opening it.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 09:02 pm: Edit |
Josh,
You did it correctly. It is just that I forgot to ad the Abbreviated name and that is why nothing is drawn. The file should not be corrupted, just not able to be drawn.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 10:01 pm: Edit |
Josh,
I have updated the SFB plugin again. It should solve your issue.

Thanks Paul,
Got it working !
Updated Lyran BB sent in with arcs indicated.
Cheers
