Or the ADB

By Aaron Gimblet (Marcus) on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 11:08 pm: Edit

Im about to move... will check the stores at home, and then do direct-order if need be.

By Aaron Gimblet (Marcus) on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 11:13 pm: Edit

Mike, youve got mail. Just the CA, for the moment.

By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 08:22 pm: Edit

Since S.V.C. has complained many times that X1 never sold very well, I'ld say ADB has as many as you'ld want to buy..

By Tos Crawford (Tos) on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 08:41 pm: Edit

I hadn't heard that. Interesting.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 08:55 pm: Edit

Neither have I. He has said that they printed so many that throwing out the rulebooks and printing new ones incorporating the X-Fix would be impractical.

You say "tomato" and I say "tomato".

That really is two very different things MJC.

And begs the question, was the Yamato ever refered to as the Yamaeto by the posh? :(

First Hydran SSD

All the work was done by Mike, and all credit for appearance goes to him.

All the design was done by me, and anythign wrong with it is my fault

Aaron:
Isn't that a slightly excessive number of Ph-G2s, as in X0, even dreadnaughts only have 2 Ph-Gs. Remeber, the Ph-5s will be able to rapid-pulse as well so that ship will be drone-proof.

With flag I'd think of this more of an XCC, you have it labeled an XCA. If you do swap the gats I'd rather see them LSRR, RSLR where the rear tractors are. Why only two fighters?

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 - 02:44 pm: Edit

The flag was something that came up early in the discussions about X2 CA's. Loren, IIRC, suggested that as rare as they are, all XCA's would probably be command ships. The XCC would be a later development, for use after the Xorks arrive. That's my take on it, anyway.

By Aaron Gimblet (Marcus) on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 - 02:46 pm: Edit

Tos/Mark.. in some way you answered each others concerns. More PHGs because less fighters. Less fighters because its a 4HB design, and im something of a traditionalist. Bridge because though its not a purpose-built overgunned 'CC', I wanted to see it able to do basically any job... if were going with small fleet numbers for 1 move cost X2 hulls, they have to be capable of stepping up to the command role.

And as for 2 PHGs on an X0 DN... sure, 2PHGs on an X0 DN. DNs are not independent operation ships. They have escorts, and scads of fighters. There are are also 2PHGs on an X0 Unrefitted DD... and thats why the 2X CA has 4.

By Roger Dupuy (Rogerdupuy) on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 - 08:12 pm: Edit

I can did Tos's sharper saucer Fed design. This makes the Fed ship sweet-looking! Nice job. Now, what goes into them, that is still up to debate.

Work on the ISC proceeds as I have time at work, but it will be a while before it's done. I am hampered by not being able to find my X1 SSD book. I may simply have to go back to the CC and upgrade to X2.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 01:33 pm: Edit

John,

I'll email you something that should help. Look for it later tonight.

Here's a Romulan XCC I worked up, including a really nasty speed forty Plasma X torpedo. Thoughts?

Romulan XCC}

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:15 pm: Edit

Mike,

Just to remind you, the X1 Rom has 2x M, 2x S torps as its standard armament.

You're downgunning the Rom plasma output. With 2xL, 1xX, it's back at GW levels, 100 puny points of plasma. Now, refit it with one of my Z-torps and maybe a couple of T-torps...

You threw out the whole "modular" concept as well.

By Jeremy Gray (Gray) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:16 pm: Edit

Mike, I love the SSD outline (I'm not a big fan of "overly fancy" SSD outlines, but this one looks very "SFB-like" - call be a conservative SFBer). My only suggestion for the Romulans would be a return to the modularity they enjoyed with their X0 designs. This would be particularly useful in their CL and DD classes, allowing them to be configured for different missions (other races might do this with modules or with something like an NWO or maybe some other alternative).

And yes, the Plasma-X is VERY nasty. Especially if it can be armed faster than torps of previous generations.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:22 pm: Edit

Actually, it is modular...I just don't have a line seperating the engines from the mods. The mod shown is the basic one, and I didn't really try to make up other ones, though some would be fairly obvious choices.

John, yeah, I know it's a bit light on plasma. But, I figure having a 60 point, speed forty plasma with ten hexes more in range is worth the two M torps. That's something to be tested, I guess, but any more and it looked WAY overgunned.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:27 pm: Edit

Mike,

The X1 looks way overgunned. :)

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:35 pm: Edit

Hmmm, true. Well, figure a set of mods like these, and you get one like this:

Romulan XCC version 2

By Tos Crawford (Tos) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 07:38 pm: Edit

The nastiest part is the BPV.

There is no good comparison with X1 but the KEX is closest at 240.
Add 1M, 4D and upgrade the R to an X-torp. +44
+10 warp, +15 total power. +65
Upgrade 8P1 to 8P5. +16
Add tons of hull and auxiliary systems and hidden X2 tech. +35

I’d estimate the BPV at 400.

Its too good for Y205 and isn’t maximized enough for post Xork.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Thursday, February 20, 2003 - 11:08 pm: Edit

...and that's not all. Really, the plasmas should be in the main hull and the phasers should be in the modules.
