I could conceptualize "Star Fleet Battles: Dark Future" which includes fiction, scenarios, history, and SSDs for the "real timeline" of the Andro War. Leanna might even approve it if it did not include counters. Could also have an F&E scenario, FC ship cards, and prime directive material.

I doubt if it would be profitable, but I could conceptualize "Star Fleet Battles: Dark Future" which includes fiction, scenarios, history, and SSDs for the "real timeline" of the Andro War. Leanna might even approve it if it did not include counters.

Ooooooo...I'd buy it!

EDIT: In PDF, of course.

If FC Ship Cards could also be added, it would make for a great place to publish the Devastator battleship, as well as Ship Cards (and rules) for the four Dissection Beam mothership variants from Module C3A.

(I was hoping there could be a spot for a Desecrator starbase Ship Card at some point, too. But that might not fit too well here, since the alt-timeline Alpha empires never made it that far.)

And if we were to see X-Ships Attack published for FC, a conversion of the infamous Darwin scenario from Module X1 might be welcome, too. We may still need a Ship Card for the Federation CVL, in order to represent the Darwin itself - but perhaps there could be room in an upcoming Communiqué for that?

Also, perhaps a variant of the current Operation Unity campaign could be done up in order to represent Operation Codominion.

As for SFB SSDs, this might be a good place to speculate on a couple of Star Fleet X-PFTs - such as a "GPX" modification of the pre-existing GVX.

In general, it seems like we would see more "upgunned" ships, since ships are either expected to die soon, or are not going have large operational areas.

For example: Were the Gunfighter Frigates from CL28 printed in a module? If not, they would fit in this background.

Likewise, the oft discussed "Super Heavy Cruiser" (aka a edit: Killerhawk for every race).

Alternatively, it would also be fun to see races exploring with heavier defensive options at the expense of speed. I know several people have talked about "Armored cruisers" who add armor, which increases movement cost and maybe increases turn mode.

For rules it might be an interesting place to look into "desperate times equal desperate measures" - ie. powerful weapons with a big drawback.

I'm hoping to finally buy C3A in the next month or so, so I might have more to add after finally reading the timeline there.

Robert,

I wouldn't mind seeing Super Heavy Cruisers for other empires. But I believe you are mistaken about the SuperHawk. It is listed as a Command Cruiser. The Super Heavy Cruiser is the KillerHawk.

Ah yes, Killerhawk not Superhawk... been too long since I looked at those ships.

Sounds cool.

I would buy it.

No question I'd buy it. Mainly, if done then the reason to buy is that it exists.

But while there is a lot we aren't supposed to know about the Andros, there is a lot that can be known that we don't yet. Plenty of product here for sure.

Sounds interesting.

I'm confused...what's 'the "real timeline" of the Andro War'? How does that differ from the existing published history?

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Monday, February 01, 2016 - 11:42 pm: Edit

The "dark future" is the one which the CVL Darwin encountered/created in the (SH166.0) Return of the Darwin scenario from SFB Module X1.

Module C3A includes more details from this alternate reality: an "Andromedan" timeline running from Y195 (the point at which the Darwin "vanished") through to alt-Y207 (when it re-emerged through the temporal rift); a monograph discussing the differences between both timelines; rules for the Dissection Beam (a weapon which only appeared in the alternate timeline); and SSDs for a series of four DSB-armed mothership variants.

By Nick Blank (Nickgb) on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 - 01:02 am: Edit

The timeline where the Andros win is the "real" timeline, since the timeline where the galactics win was brought about by sending information about the RTN into the past, thus changing the "real" history into the official history.

By Dixon Simpkins (Dixsimpkins) on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 - 04:18 pm: Edit

Thanks, Nick and Gary, for explaining that.

This probably is something that wouldn't interest me much. (Not ragging on it, mind you; just my opinion)

Would make a better movie than the JJ Treks.

Yes, I'm interested!

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 - 05:59 pm: Edit

The dark future is not the real timeline, it is an alternate future that got avoided.

By Glenn Hoepfner (Ikabar) on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 - 06:20 pm: Edit

What's the difference between an alternate future and a mirror universe?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 - 06:23 pm: Edit

Alternative future does not exist at the same time with people moving back and forth. Once the ship comes back to the past the alternative future is disconnected and no longer happens.
