How pleasing to the eye it is.

I look forward to using my new (SSDs not yet available) ships.

R4.A40- It is probable that if the GryphonHawk had been a more common class of ship, but only a few such hulls were built due to the shortage of the frigate engines needed for the design. - sentence isn't clear. A clause such as 'more would have been built' seems to be needed between the ',' and 'but'. Howard Bampton November 5, 2016

Note that as this text is for CL #52, please check against that product's version too.

By Troy J. Latta (Saaur) on Monday, November 07, 2016 - 07:06 pm: Edit

There's a discrepancy in the text between the Master Rulebook's (FP7.0) and the Romulan Master Starship Book (R4.R7K).
The former says the Gorn developed shotguns in Y168 and everyone else copied them in Y169. The latter says Romulans can use shotgun in Y168.
Which is correct?

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Tuesday, November 08, 2016 - 01:00 pm: Edit

Troy J. Latta:

The Master Rulebook is correct. It has been corrected in the Romulan Master Starship Book, together with the reference to the availability of shotguns in the entry for the Regent Eagle.

Great book. Below is the list of my errata which is mostly minor typos.

(R4.R7L) In second to the last sentence change “topedoes” to “torpedoes” by adding the “r”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.2) Recommend that the word “Refits” (in its own paragraph) be followed by a colon. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.2) In the final paragraph, remove the spaces from “S k u a”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.3) In the final paragraph, remove the spaces from “S k u a”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.14) In the second paragraph, fourth sentence [after the (R4.135) reference], change “Sparrowhawk” to “SparrowHawk” by changing the “h” to a capital “H”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.18) In the third paragraph, last sentence, remove the space from “explana tion”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.33A) Add “(P-C1)” to the header. P-C1 is the Ship Type in the Master Ship Chart in Module G3. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.35) Recommend that in the in the second paragraph, second sentence, in the text “Tholian Holdfast cut direct” add “and” so final text would be “Tholian Holdfast and cut direct”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.36) In the second paragraph, second sentence, remove the space from “bat tery” [this is for the battery for the right engine]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.37) Under the second image remove the space in “KILLER HAWK-K”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.N3) In the first sentence remove the space from “ver sions”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.41) In the header change “(SNS)” to “(SNS+)” since this is the plus version of the ship. The SSD is for the SNS+ (and does not include the SNS without the plus refit). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.41) In the first paragraph, second sentence, change “warp-targeteasers” to “warp-targeted lasers”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.44) In the Refits paragraph, remove the space from “desi gn”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.46) In the second paragraph, in the text “WarHawk light carrier (R4.7) light carriers” remove the first “light carrier”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.48) Shouldn’t the image of the ship be the same as that shown in (YR4.4D) with warp-targeted lasers, rather than the current image shown with phasers? While the ship description does include mention of the Y158 refit to add phasers it is then the H+ which has its own entry. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.48) Recommend that the word “Refits” (in its own paragraph) be followed by a colon. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.52) In the third paragraph, remove the spaced from “var iant”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.60) In the Refits paragraph remove the space from “explorati on”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.72) In the first paragraph, at the end of the second sentence, remove the following text: “, so the designation “NHK” is equally valid”. Previous versions of the rule has a Ship Type of NH but now since this rule, Module G3 MSC, and the SSD use NHK the text is no longer needed. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.73) In the header, change “(RH)” to “(RHK)”. The SSD and the Module G3 MSC both use RHK. While I realize that RH is probably equally valid, I recommend the change for consistency. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.83) In the first sentence change “acually” to “actually” by adding the “t”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.83) In the Nuclear space mine paragraph, in the header, remove the space from “min e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.89) In the table, add a period after (G33.42). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.92) In the first paragraph change “Condor-B” to “Condor-H” since that name of this ship. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.94) I recommend that the header for this rule be changed to “KING VULTURE EARLY DREADNOUGHT (KVL)” and the body text be slightly modified to accommodate this change. While the ship description does cover multiple versions of the vulture, the SSD is for the King Vulture and the VUL (YR4.2D) and VUL+ (YR4.2E) have their own entries in Module Y1. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.94) The war vulture Ship Type in the third bullet is listed as is listed as “WVL” but that is also what is used for the Masked Vulture (YR4.2B) and so the Ship Type for the war vulture should be changed (unfortunately this will also require changing it in the Master Ship Chart and any other Annex listings). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.100) At the end of the third paragraph, remove the word “light”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.103) In the second paragraph, remove the space from “varian t”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.124) In the fourth paragraph, second to last sentence, change “poings” to “points”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.125) In the fourth paragraph, last sentence, change “poings” to points”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.126E) In the eighth from last paragraph, the paragraph starting with “Note:”, in the first sentence, remove the space from “ca pable”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.134) In the second paragraph, remove the space from “va riant”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.137) At the end of the fifth paragraph, in the text “which costs its its modularity” change the first “its” to “it”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A17) In the “Landing force” paragraph, change “(R4.M1)” to “(R4.M1.1-1)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A22) In the fifth paragraph, change the start of the final sentence from “Data is provided in the Captain’s Log #40 Supplemental File” to “Data is provided on pages 81-82”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A28) For the Y180-Y182 table row, change “4xTrib-For” to “4xTrib-F or” by adding a space before “or”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A29) In the Nuclear space mine paragraph, in the header, remove the space from “min e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A36) In the header above this rule, change “TECHOLOGY” to “TECHNOLOGY” by adding the “N”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.A39) In the fourth paragraph, remove the space from “oper ate”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.F0) [this rule appears just before (R4.F1)]: Add “(SLS)” to the header based on Module G3 Master Fighter Chart. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

***SABOT REFITS NOTE [rule appears just before (R4.M0)]: Recommend that in the text “strike a penalty” that a comma be added after “strike”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.PF) ROMULAN FAST PATROL SHIPS: In the header change “(R4.PF0)” to “(R4.PF)” by removing the zero. Rule (R4.PF0) is used for the Decurion Interceptor. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.PF7-4): Change rule from (R1.PF7) to (R1.PF7-4) by adding the “-4” to distinguish this rule from the general rule on workboats. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.PF7-4) In the first sentence, change “patol” to “patrol” by adding the “r”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.PF7-4) In the first paragraph, third sentence, change “patol” to “patrol” by adding the “r”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.PF8-4): Change rule from (R1.PF8) to (R1.PF8-4) by adding the “-4” to distinguish this rule from the general rule on survey boats. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.PF9-4): Change rule from (R1.PF9) to (R1.PF9-4) by adding the “-4” to distinguish this rule from the general rule on recovery boats. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.PF2) In the third paragraph, second to last sentence, remove the space from “pur chased”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R8.PF50) [This errata actually applies to the text that immediately follows rule (R8.PF50).] In the paragraph beginning with “The L: leader”, in the final sentence, change “labled” to “labeled” by adding the first “e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.PF3) Add “(CEN-E)” to the header based on Module G3 Master PF Ship Chart. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.3) In the “Landing:” paragraph, remove the space from “Th is”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.3) In the final paragraph, remove the spaces from “S k u a”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.4E) In the first paragraph, change “(R3.46)” to “(R4.46)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.5D) In the header change “(SN)” to “(SNS)” since that is the what is on the SSD and in Module G3 and Module YG3 MSC. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.5D) Remove the final paragraph which has the text “This is the same ship as the sublight Snipe frigate described in (R4.41) in Advanced Missions.” This ship is not the same ship as (R4.41) since this ship does not have the plus refit. Rule (YR4.5E) is the same ships as (R4.41) and that rule properly refers to (R4.41). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.5E) In the header change “(SN+)” to “(SNS+)” since that is the what is on the SSD and in the Master Ship Chart for Module G3 for (R4.41) [the header for rule (R4.41) uses “(SNS)” but I submitted a separate errata item to have it changed to “(SNS+)”]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.10) In the first paragraph and in the “Landing force” paragraph, change “(R4.M1)” to “(R4.M1.1-1)” [total of two places]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.10) In the “Shuttles” paragraph, change “(YR1.F1)” to “(YR1.F4)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

ROMULAN EMPIRE FIGHTER AND BOMBER BASES [just before (YR4.12)]: In the third paragraph change “warp-targetted” to “warp-targeted” by removing the final “t”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.13) Change (RHB-M) to (RHB) to match SSD and Master Ship Chart. I realize they are probably equivalent but recommend the change for consistency. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.18E) Remove the third paragraph since it is identical to the second paragraph. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.19) Remove the fifth and sixth paragraphs since they are identical to the third and fourth paragraphs. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.19C) Near the end of the first paragraph, change “two them” to “two of them”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.F1) Add “(G-0)” to the header based on Module G3 Master Fighter Chart. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.F2) Add “(G-L)” to the header based on Module G3 Master Fighter Chart. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.F2A) In the second paragraph change “Gladiator-0I” to “Gladiator-0i” (change the “i” to a lower case). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

SUBLIGHT SHUTTLES [just before (YR4.F3)]: In the second to last paragraph, change “warp-targetted” to “warp-targeted” by removing a “t”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR4.F20) In the second to last paragraph, remove the space from “al l”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.217) In the fourth paragraph, remove the space from “Falc on”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R4.218) In the “Nuclear space mine” paragraph, remove the space from “shi p”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

ADDITIONAL ROMULAN ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SHIPS [after rule (R4.219)]: Add a new final paragraph with the text “(R4.A36) SNIPE-X ADVANCED FRIGATE”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.R-4) In the Y182 PF SHIELD REFITS (R1.PFR1) paragraph, change “(R1.PF1)” to “(R4.PF1)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.N3-4) In the “(J8.0) MULTI-ROLE SHUTTLES” paragraph, change “Y158” to “Y159” and “Y159” to “Y160” based on the following text from (J8.11): “† The Romulans cannot use non-sublight MRS shuttles prior to Y160. A sublight MRS-S shuttle (YR4.F24) is available to the Romulans in Y150.” Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

Romulan Bases: Shouldn’t the Romulan bases (SB, BATS, etc.) show the fighters used before Y165 via use of early hanger base module (YR1.2H-4) and early heavy fighter hangar bay module (YR4.17)? Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.1-4) The “Carrier” paragraph has the text “Note: The Romulans cannot equip a base with hangar bay modules for fighters prior to Y165.” Isn’t this incorrect given the early hanger base module (YR1.2H-4) and early heavy fighter hangar bay module (YR4.17)? Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.1-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.1-4) In the second fighter table after “Y191” add “+”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.2-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.3-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.28C1-4) In the first paragraph, change “depradations” to “depredations” by changing the first “a” to an “e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.46A-4) In the first paragraph, change “(YR4.F3)” to “(YR4.F18)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.69-4) Change rule number from “(R1.69)” to “(R1.69-4)” (by adding the “-4”). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.70-4) In the first paragraph, change “(YR4.F7)” to “(YR4.F22)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.89-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.89-4) In the paragraph after the first fighter table change “starbase” to “stellar fortress”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.89-4) In the second fighter table after “Y191” add “+”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.89-4) In the third fighter table, the fighters for Y191+ are not indented correctly on the second line. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4) In the first sentence change “recognizeably” to “recognizably” by removing the second “e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4A) Change the rule number from “(YR1.1A-4)” to “(YR1.1-4A)” by moving the “A” to the end. This change is so it matches the rule number in the Module YG3 Master Ship Chart and to use a format similar to other multi-part Romulan units when the sub-letter designation is at the end. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4B) Change the rule number from “(YR1.1B-4)” to “(YR1.1-4B)” by moving the “B” to the end [similar to the change made for (YR1.1-4A)]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4C) Change the rule number from “(YR1.1C-4)” to “(YR1.1-4C)” by moving the “C” to the end [similar to the change made for (YR1.1-4A)]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4D) Change the rule number from “(YR1.1D-4)” to “(YR1.1-4D)” by moving the “D” to the end [similar to the change made for (YR1.1-4A)]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4E) Change the rule number from “(YR1.1E-4)” to “(YR1.1-4E)” by moving the “E” to the end [similar to the change made for (YR1.1-4A)]. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.1-4E) In the last paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.2-4) In the “Carrier” paragraph, change “(E20.63)” to “(E20.36)”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.3-4) In the third paragraph, change “recognizeably” to “recognizably” by removing the second “e”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.3-4) In the paragraph just after the second fighter table, in the first sentence, change “staton” to “station” by adding the “i”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.3-4E) In the last paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.3A-4) In the paragraph just after the second fighter table, in the first sentence, change “staton” to “station” by adding the “i”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.3A-4A) In the first sentence change “warp-targetted” to “warp-targeted” by removing the last “t”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.8A-4) Change rule number from “(YR1.8A)” to “(YR1.8A-4)” by adding the “-4”. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.8F-4) Change the rule number for EARLY GROUND-BASED DEFENSE STATIONS from “(YR1.8-4)” to “(YR1.8F-4)” since the general unit this matches is (YR1.8F). Also move the rule text to just before (YR1.8F6-4). Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(YR1.29-4) Recommend that the word “Refits” (in its own paragraph) be followed by a colon. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.206-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.207-4) In the first paragraph, reference to “(FP3.87)” is incorrect since there is no such rule. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

(R1.207-4) At the end of the first paragraph, delete “are deleted” since the sentence starts with the word delete. Jeff Coutu, 3 Feb 1017

Headers: The choice of some headers seems off to me since the header appears larger than the header they fall under. The sections I am referring to are the “THE SHIPS IN CAPTAIN’S LOG” (pages 74-89) and “(R4.R0) ROMULAN FIGHTERS” (pages 90-95). I recommend that the following headers be changed, perhaps to the hollow box type header: “ADDITIONAL NEW SHIP” (page 74), KESTREL POLICE SHIPS (page 84), “ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FRIGATES” (page 86), “KESTREL POLICE SHIP” (page 86), “NEW CRUISER VARIANTS” (page 86), “THE NEW FIGHTERS” (page 92), “THE ROMULAN BOMBERS” (page 93), and “THE ROMULAN HEAVY SUPERIORITY FIGHTERS” (page 94). In ROMULAN EAGLE UPGRADES, the only mention of what is a Queen eagle is here.

Quote:

For convenience, we have used the term “Queen Eagle” to refer to an unmodified Eagle hull with King Eagle engines.

I gather that means no formal SSD exist, and no assigned reference number. We have a metal SL 2500 miniature with the text:

Quote:

The Romulan Queen Eagle is the same ship as the King Eagle but has the smaller plasma-S torpedo (to save money on construction) and costs fewer points. It can be visually distinguished by the slightly different fin. This is a three-piece miniature available only while supplies last.

Patrick Dillman:

So that you are not disappointed, the SSDs in Captain's Log #39 included the

King Eagle-V Medium Carrier
Queen Owl Survey Scout
Queen Commando Eagle
and Queen Freight Eagle

The King Falcon Mauler and Regent Eagle Command Cruiser were in the Captain's Log #39 supplement.

I do not think an actual SSD of a Queen Eagle with two plasma-S launchers exists.

(R4.86) SEG - I guess this was missed. MSSB-R4 states "20 boarding parties (D7.0) plus two commando teams (D15.84), two heavy-weapons squads (D15.81)," but the SSD in Module M and M-2010 show 25 boarding parties. Should there be "21 boarding parties..." or is the single boarding party part of the ship compliment? Note, that would be different from the other troop transports which assign all the boarding parties to the landing force. - Ken Kazinski, 31 Dec 2021.

By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 - 11:21 am: Edit

(R4.F9E) MSSB-R04 Romulan Glad-DE - The Glad-DE shows the remaining two plasma-D rails are downgraded to plasma-K rails. R1.F7 states that drone-armed (including plasma-D) fighters replace two plasma-D's with EW Pods. That would leave 2xPL-D. I can't find a reference to change the remaining plasma-D rails to plasma-K rails. A long while ago Steve P. provided an update for R1.F7 for Plasma-D-armed fighters: Replace two plasma-Ds with EW pods. There is no C-refit for EWFs. PL-K plasma's are retained and add two PL-K rails. Should not the Glad-DE retains 2 of the plasma-Ds? - Ken Kazinski, 26 Apr 2022.

(R4.F5) MSSB-R04 Romulan G-SF - By convention when a unit is first discussed the rule number is also given, "Gladiator-SF" should be "Gladiator-SF (R4.F4)" in the first paragraph. - Ken Kazinski, 26 Apr 2022.

(R4.F5E) MSSB-R04 Romulan G-SFE - The grpahic is missing the 2xPL-K's. - Ken Kazinski, 26 Apr 2022.
