Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: SFB Proposals Board: The "X" Files: OLD X2 FOLDER: X2 SSD's: Archive through March 10, 2003

Has anyone thought of adding Administrative PF's to the X2 designs? I would think the PF technology would be proven by the X2 time, and a PF is more durable than a shuttle. Not replacing the entire shuttle complement but reducing the number of the shuttles on CA's and DN's. And if you are going to design the ship to be a casual PF carrier from the round up why not an internal PF hanger, to allow for repair and maintenance. The Federation will have to develop a mega admin shuttle to be competitive. : )

Mike,

That a lot of heavy weapons damage lost. Medium plasma cannon for main armament?

John,

Look behind the bridge...

Can you use Admin PFs as a super-scatter pack?

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Sunday, February 23, 2003 - 03:41 pm: Edit

Mike,

Oh.

I like.

Mike, I can't say it's drastic, but perhaps it look a bit too much like a Klingon; I wonder about that deckhouse with impulse and shuttles?
I am thinking of borrowing abilities, not the looks:D

Mike, I'd say that looks more like an XCC. The XCA would lose/reduce/rearc the rear 360 phasers. I like the shape of the warp engines.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 10:38 pm: Edit

Agreed that it's not in line with the CA->CAR line of evolution, but it's not so bad.

Mike reduced the FH phasers instead, which is acceptable and in line with the Fed NCA design. It also keeps the ship's seeking weapon defense up.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 11:01 pm: Edit

It's made to be similar to the CAR or CA+. With no rear phasers at all, it'd really suck with that D turn mode. Instead, as John says, it's got the old "six gun" phaser array on the saucer. The XCC I made has 4 FH P-5's, 2 LS/RS, and 2 360.

By Tos Crawford (Tos) on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 11:43 pm: Edit

Dropping the rear 360 to CAR RH arcs would be deja-vu. 360 arcs are what the CC had. I don't know if you were going for deja-vu but that's what I felt upon viewing your SSD.

I have the Rom. XFF, XDD, XCL, XCA, XCC all done in the second version. Using Spec Bridge and reduced Warp. I'll send them to Mike R. AFTER my email clears up. It's bouncing just about everything right now.

I think a few ppl maybe interested in the tac I took with the smaller ships.

I have a fairly complete set of 2X Feds put together, using alot of the latest stuff we talked about. Still keeping the "50%" photons; i.e., 12 point standards, 16 point fast overloads, and 24 point max overloads. They also include Loren's "S" Bridge.

Y205 Series:
Fed XCA
Fed XCL
Fed XDD
Fed XFF
Fed XGS

Y215 Series:

Fed XCC
Fed XCL+
Fed XDD+
Fed XFF+
Fed XBC

The Fed XBC is my interpretation of what would pretty much be the ultimate Federation warship. Could be improved or toned down, depending on the Xorks, but you get the idea of what I'm shooting for. Definately based more on the BCJ than the G or F models, too. The XGS was made just because it seems a very Fed thing to have, and it would come with the Y205 models. But, it doesn't really need an upgrade later to remain effective, I think.

Now, the upgrade. Since we don't know what we'll be facing, I gave a pretty generic upgrade...a few more phasers, replacement of the NWO with AWR, and some slight increases in shields. Nothing too fancy, but more of a general beefing up; again, a very Fed thing to do.

Mike:
It may be a very fed thing to do to have a destroyer and a light cruiser that have basically the same saucer design, but not at the same time. I would be arguing for a 3 photon (or even 2 photon) destroyer that is more like the DW than the DD, and consigning 4 weapon destroyer designs to the wastepaper basket as a waste of photon torpedo launchers.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 12:23 pm: Edit

The DW was, after all, a successful design.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 05:48 pm: Edit

I'd agree.

A 3-photon DD is plenty.

I'd love to see a return of the single-engine DD with a saucer layout almost identical to the CA's.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 05:49 pm: Edit

As it happens, I did make that change as John was posting! Left the BPV the same, though, as it's only an estimate.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 05:55 pm: Edit

But...

I still see two engines. :)

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 09:33 pm: Edit

Yes, but they are over/under engines. :O

I don't really know that but I'd put it out there anyway.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 09:40 pm: Edit

Well, one engine would be a big friggin' engine. I like the two engines, myself. Now, if you could trim enough mass to justify a 1/3 move cost, a one engine DD would be possible...

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 09:43 pm: Edit

...I guess you're right...

Mike please tell me you got the Rom ships I sent you over the weekend. Because somehow I managed to not send Copies of the original "Polished" ships. I somehow sent the originals. And there are no copies left on my PC other than the roughing out versions. Since they were subject to big changes I didn't save a copy on Floppy:(

*Before anyone suggest anything. I've already done a File scan of not only my Email but my entire PC.

By Mike Raper (Raperm) on Thursday, March 06, 2003 - 08:42 am: Edit

Kenneth,

No, nothing came through.

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Thursday, March 06, 2003 - 11:56 am: Edit

I was afraid of that. Since I asked for a read receipt because my email was so flaky last weekend.

Ok the files must be on my PC somewhere. Probably they got renamed somehow and the auto search cant find them.

If I cant find the Polished ones by this evening I'll send you the unpolished. No Boarding parties and such. I'll simply stick a Shipdata on them.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Friday, March 07, 2003 - 11:03 pm: Edit

A complete set of ISC hulls.

By John Trauger (Vorlonagent) on Monday, March 10, 2003 - 01:00 am: Edit

Two complete sets of ISC hulls.

The big difference is that the second set have the Plasma Caster as a system box on the SSD.

Same web address.
