Has anyone ever lost to BYE before?
By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Sunday, September 04, 2016 - 02:28 am: Edit |
Nick: Yes. 1983. Nobody from our team showed up for the racquetball match the week we were supposed to get the BYE, so it counted as a loss.

Hey! Paul! I'm still represented by "BYE" on the Plat Hat tree. And I just advanced, so now BYE is in Round 3. Which is fine with me, but might be confusing in the long run :-)

It is now fixed.

Paul.
I noticed that the Carnivon have only the early years versions.
Looks like none of the C6 ssd's are available. Whom do I need to ask to have them added to the library?

Paul!
Ok, so here is my situation. I upgraded my Mac OS to 10.13. Which is making me crazy, but whatever. In any case, I downloaded the newest Java RTE, and immediately my Vassal F+E stopped working. So I got James to help out, and he pointed to a solution, which involved blowing up the newest Java RTE and replacing it with the newer, new Java RTE beta (which is 8u152). That fixed my F+E problem. Phew. But now I just tried to open SFBOL, and it won't open with that version of Java, and wants me to install the "legacy Java SE 6 runtime". I went and looked at that on their download site, and it seems to want to work on OS 10.7 through OS 10.13. And I have no idea what will happen if I download that to run SFBOL. Will it kill the beta Java I just installed? And make F+E not work again?
Ideas? Solutions? Anything?

Peter,
When is the last time you grabbed the SFU Online Client? I ask because I changed the client last year to install as a signed package that uses an embedded Java Runtime.
This should solve the issue. (I hope)
Note: I have not upgraded to macOS 10.13 (High Sierra). Though I am working on installing it in a VM.

Not recently, so that is probably the issue. I'll download the new one (which I can't do from the old one, as it can't open; I imagine I can just go to the SFBOL site and do a brand new download and re-install, yeah?) . I'll let you know what happens!

Paul! That worked! Thanks!
I downloaded Version 4.2.14, and everything seems to be working fine on OS X 10.13.
Thanks!

Paul!
The Plat Hat tree needs fixing--BigSlowTarget (GBS) is supposed to be on the tree vs Grim in 1.03.
Thanks!

Peter,
Now fixed.

Paul!
Ok, so I logged on yesterday to play my PH game with Sleepy_Cat, and apparently it was the first time I used the new client. Which was fine, except I can't for the lif of me figure out how to check for client updates.
I'm using 4.2.14. I think 4.2.15 exists. But I can't find a "check for updates" button or command or option anywhere. Which there used to be. And I was having some weird buggy behavior, that I suspect is probably fixed in the most recent update. But I can't figure out how to get that.
By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Monday, December 25, 2017 - 05:20 pm: Edit |
In the Mac version of the client, there is a "check for update" option on the "help" menu.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 - 10:12 am: Edit |
Yeah, see, I'm using the Mac version, and under the "Help" menu, I get:
Search
About
Send Feedback
And when I hit "About", I get a bunch of data about the what versions of things I'm using, but no other way to check for update. Or anywhere else...
By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 - 08:34 pm: Edit |
OK, that's really weird...
Under "help" (Client version 4.2.15) I have:
Search
Check for Update...
Send Feedback...
Sorry I wasn't able to be of help. :-(
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 - 10:01 am: Edit |
Heh. Yeah, apparently one of the bugs in 4.2.14 is that there isn't a way to check for updates :-)
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, January 14, 2018 - 03:52 pm: Edit |
Paul!
I still haven't figured out how to update my current client version (I'm on 4.2.14 and can't find anywhere to update the client...).
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, January 14, 2018 - 11:20 pm: Edit |
Peter,
You need to grab the latest update manually and re-install by copying the new version over the old version.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 - 08:48 am: Edit |
Ah, ok. Thanks!
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, January 19, 2018 - 02:28 pm: Edit |
Paul!
Ok, so I successfully downloaded the new version of the client (I' now at 4.2.15). And there *still* doesn't seem to be a "check for update" function anywhere. Under the "Help" menu, there isn't a "check for update" anymore. Is this by design?
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, January 20, 2018 - 11:26 am: Edit |
Peter,
Yup. Since under the macOS it seems pointless to update the application via my previous method. (i.e. downloading the jar files directly) Since doing that will invalidate the application and have it no longer run. This is because I now sign my application so that it will not be blocked for people downloading and installing the application on the Mac
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, January 20, 2018 - 09:35 pm: Edit |
Ah, ok; so whenever I notice an upgrade, I can just reinstall the new one. Check. That's reasonable. Thanks!
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, January 22, 2018 - 05:44 pm: Edit |
Here is an idea that might be possible--could the client alert you that there is a new version to download? Like, I'm totally ok with downloading from the SFBOL site to replace the old version with a new one, but I'd be more likely to do that if there was an alert message or something. Or maybe something like that already exists already?

Just gauging support here:
IF we can get 16 for MASTERS 2018 I will start proceedings...if we get in the 20s I will start proceedings really hard.
Hey Paul! or Hey Jean! Can we start a Topic for Master 2018? We can cut and paste the header from the 2013 archive with the exception that my e mail has changed to andyk at kbcgo dot com
