Are the mauler rules considered final (barring unexpected issues) or playtest?
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Friday, April 27, 2018 - 02:23 pm: Edit |
For now, the mauler rules are playtest, but we don't foresee any problems.

Thank you.

The mauler rules for Starmada, ACTASF, and SFBF were written in the last week and have never been tested. The mauler rules for FC were written years ago but no reports were filed.

This was, seriously, one of the most fun-to-create products in years. It was good to just take four ships and do them for every game.

Would you please tell us what you can about the four ships?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 06:18 pm: Edit |
All four are unbuilt but perfectly viable designs.
The Kzinti Trimaran is two DWs and an FF welded together. It was in SFT years ago. It was a perfectly viable battlecruiser, just too hard to build.
The Gorn Bubble Dreadnought is five DN bubbles strung together with no straight sections. It was in SFT years ago. It was about the same as a regular DN but turned out to be no easier to build so they didn't.
The Tholian Hexagonal battleship is three CCWs welded together (with six DD engines, not 12 PC engines). The design worked fine but the Tholians decided not to give up three CCWs and two DDs to build one.
The WYN Aux Mauler is a mauler with 143 points of energy built on a large ore carrier. Inside the WYN Cluster where it only fights zone-crippled enemies, it's sudden death, but they just never picked it for construction once the fish ships were available. It was in SFT a while back.

I can tell you right now that the ACTASF mauler rules have already changed, thanks to reports from that one snippet.
The rule in the April Fools pack works well enough - for that one, single ship. But when the practices involved in creating that ship are applied to others, it beaks down.
The final rule will use that as it's genesis, but will evolve over time so that it can be applied to all of the maulers in the SFU - not just one mean, nasty one.

(R7.J8) Module AFDSP2018 Tholian CTB - What is the third "+1" in the spare shuttle column?
By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Monday, January 14, 2019 - 07:17 am: Edit |
Probably: Admin Shuttle + Superiority Fighter (Spider-I or Spider-III) + Torpedo Fighter (Spider-II).
By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Friday, January 18, 2019 - 06:01 pm: Edit |
So it should be 1+2
By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Friday, January 18, 2019 - 06:21 pm: Edit |
Ken Kazinski:
No, it is correct as is in terms of the numbers and types of spare fighters in sequence. The ship has one spare admin shuttle, one spare superiority (Spider-I or Spider-III) fighter, and one spare Spider-II. However, the third "+1" should have had an "A" after it for "assault fighter."
