Is a Seltorian DNL considered a "Fast Dreadnought"?

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 - 11:25 pm: Edit

Pretty sure it is not, but I will not be able to confirm it until tomorrow.

By Jeffrey George Anderson (Jeff) on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 - 12:29 am: Edit

It is not, Chuck.

Just pulled out my copy of Module G3: Master Annex File. Page 95 starts the Seltoriaan section of the Master Ship Chart.

On the entry for the Seltorian DNL, it has a special note saying, "Note that this ship is NOT a 'fast raiding dreadnought' as are other DNLs, simply the largest ship the Seltorians could build."

The chart also says only one was built (in Y184).

Question re Federation POL Bpv cost.

I seem to remember it has been reduced to 40 Bpv instead of 50 ?
Am I correct and if so, is this the official cost now as G3 shows cost at 50 ?

Thanks.

Cheers
Frank

I think it is 50 BPV.

My copy of G3 also lists it at that cost and while that MIGHT be a typeo, I don't see that getting past ADB quality control.

Besides, it has always been pretty easy for even a player as poor as I am to get pretty scrappy with her, so I honestly think the BPV of 40 always has been a little low for her.

Frank,

On the Federation POL, looking at the G1 master ship chart (do not have G3) it is written as 40 bpv.

Frank,

sorry did not read the post properly, I think if it says 50 bpv in the G3 then it is 50bpv for the Federation POL (that's what it was in the 2003 Captains Advanced Missions).

All good

I have G3 and it shows it at 50 Bpv but I seem to remember a topic back in the day that it was reduced to 40 but as far as I know, its not officially in print as yet ?

Guess we will go with 50.

Thanks all.

Cheers
Frank

50 BPV is correct.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Thursday, May 16, 2019 - 07:15 pm: Edit

The POL was changed with the Y2K Advanced Missions. The BPV was increased because the crew size went from 6 to 10, and BP from 2 to 4. That happened because I convinced SPP that there was no way to full man the POL for 24/7 operations with only 60 crewmen.

I'd like to see something like the "SeaPatrol" ship for SFB.

Or maybe this is a skiff?

Sea Patrol, a good Australia tv series (worth a watch).

All good

Sea Patrol stuck me with "Two-Dads" every time I see a hyphenated last name.

Question re the UIM on the Klingon BT.
Paper SSD shows that each pod has a UIM standard.
Does this mean that each pod can only use its UIM for itself [ 2 disruptors ] and not for both pods [ total of 4 disruptors] ?

Then the BT gets a UIM refit . Does this mean the BT UIM refit can only be used on disruptors on the BT itself [ 4 total disruptors] and not for disruptors on the pods [ 4 disruptors between the 2 pods ]?

Or can 1 UIM be used to fire all 8 disruptors no matter which unit is using it, one of the pods or BT ?

Thanks.

Gents,
I found my answer to my question.

Thanks.

Frank,

(R3.14) Battle Pod(P-B4):

UIM: Each Battle Pod includes one UIM (from Y165), no change in BPV, which can control the disruptors on the pod, the tug, and a second pod.

What would be a good BPV for Cadet ships?

By Patrick H. Dillman (Patrick) on Wednesday, June 05, 2019 - 05:13 pm: Edit

Need to know so I can get cadet ships to work with the standard victory conditions.

By Jeffrey George Anderson (Jeff) on Wednesday, June 05, 2019 - 11:42 pm: Edit

A guess on my part, Patrick, but I suspect our friends in Amarillo chose to make the various Cadet Ships relatively balanced, but not to the same degree as regular game ships and, as a result, none of them have an assigned BPV value.

Please remember that they're only really intended as limited rules ships intended to introduce new players to the concepts of Energy Allocation, firing arcs, and the DAC. Even tactics (beyond the most rudimentary) weren't meant as part of the game intro the ships were meant to provide.

Please don't get me wrong on this, but I think you may be asking for them to do more than what they're really meant to do, and while I appreciate the idea, perhaps a Frigate Captain's campaign might be more easily worked?
