Jay, you're DEFINITELY not alone in wanting to name ships for people you care about; people who've had a profound effect on your life. I, too, have relatives who've passed whom I'd like to honor with ship names. The problem is that ships that are named for people are named for people of historical signifigance.
While I have NO say in these matters, there is one possible "Out" that comes to mind; the history of the FRA has not been well established as of yet. Could there be a husband-and-wife team from the early years of the FRA who, through sheer determination, were considered major figures in the survival of the early years of the Republic? A husband-and-wife team who, "By the Strangest of Coincidences," JUST happen to share the same names with your parents? And again, "By the Strangest of Coincidences," JUST happened to work in the same fields as your parents? If so, I think their biography would make for an interesting read... 
HOWEVER, whether or not this works depends on what SVC and SPP think of the idea; I'm NOT an ADB, Inc. employee and have NO standing in what may be official or not. What I wrote here is just the opinion of one player, nothing more.
