Wayne,
That is ok. Have you tried connecting to the SFB Online server using one of the alternate connections?

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Sunday, April 14, 2019 - 11:50 pm: Edit

Paul,

I think it was just a one off, I had no problems today, it was just strange that one room was a problem for my connection, when the other were not(what are the alternative connections).

All good

Wayne,
The alternate connections are for when people have problems with the default connection. This normally occurs because the standard IRC port 6667 is blocked by firewalls or the anti-virus is blocking the connection because the default uses the IP address of the server instead of a name of the server.

When it comes to your problem, what I was thinking about was that your connection was not stable or was being interfered with by an Anti-Virus software. Caused by too much data being downloaded via a non-HTTP/HTTPS port.

Paul.
Norton security doing updates perhaps, it could also be Telstra doing work in my general area. It is just that it has not happen before, with any luck it will be fine in the next week or so.
Thank you.

All good

Paul,
is there a spot to register for the Sapphire Tournament up on SFBOL?
(I have paid the entry cost for a ticket through ADB, Jean mentioned registration for Sapphire Tournament is in SFBOL)

It's my job, not Paul's to delete obsolete posts and given there are 5000 that I didn't delete I was clearly not on the ball when I was unwell.

Paul, can I delete the obsolete stuff? I cannot imagine you need to archive it.

Howdy,

The SFBOL that I downloaded on my old computer (computer no longer working), can I use my SFBOL call sign (Zero_G) account on another computer to play SFBOL?

By Gregg Dieckhaus (Gdieck) on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 - 03:06 pm: Edit

The login and sign on is at the server level, so you should it should work on a new machine.
Gregg

I went to renew my SFBOL subscription and it seems I can't pay with a CC anymore?
Check or money order is just never going to happen...
am I missing something?

Nevermind. Nothing to see here

Paul, is there a new IP address I need to use for connecting with the client. I am getting an error I can not connect - but alternate 2 and 3 work..

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, August 20, 2020 - 08:48 pm: Edit

Gregg,
Yes. I moved the server two weeks ago.

Please uninstall the previous client
Download the latest client
Reinstall the client

Note: This might require turning off your Anti-Virus. I have had multiple reports from people that different Anti-Virus screw up the installation of the client on Windows.

By Gregg Dieckhaus (Gdieck) on Thursday, August 20, 2020 - 09:17 pm: Edit

Paul, I downloaded and ran the install but now getting an error failed to create JVM - i have 1.8.0_101 what version do I need?

By Gregg Dieckhaus (Gdieck) on Thursday, August 20, 2020 - 10:44 pm: Edit

Still getting errors after uninstall and reinstall. looks like the client installed. but getting an index out of bound error. I sent an error report.

Figued out the issue
My old properties file had loginModeSelected=6 in it. I assume you reduced the number of dropdowns in the new version.. When I set that to loginModeSelected=0 I was able to get the login box and login

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, August 20, 2020 - 11:25 pm: Edit

Gregg,
Yeah. That is an outstanding bug on the update. That happens if the last time you logged into the client you use "Authenticated Mode"

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, September 20, 2020 - 02:44 am: Edit

Paul: I had to send your background stuff to the PC so I could view it, and since it's over there I keep forgetting to email you. Drop me an email and let's discuss the new backgrounds.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, September 20, 2020 - 04:18 pm: Edit

Steve,
Email is sent. If you need a different format for the files, I would be happy to convert them to what ever format you wish.

By Gregg Dieckhaus (Gdieck) on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 - 02:30 pm: Edit

Paul,
What would it take to add a graphic level to the game where players could move 3d ship models?

ADB must have 3d models for most ships they have in the shapeway store.
Gregg

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 - 08:22 pm: Edit

Gregg,
It would take ADB giving me the model files. The difficult part would be the different file formats. Because, if I recall correctly each modeler uses a different program so I am not sure of the file format used.

Steve,
Would that be possible?

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 - 11:40 pm: Edit

I would like the SFBOL units to stay as carboard counters.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 - 01:12 am: Edit

It would be possible. Whether or not it's a good idea, or good enough to be done at the expense of other ideas, I would have to think about.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 - 11:20 am: Edit

What is the idea here? Using whatever is being used for the Shapeways miniatures somehow?

By Peter DiMitri (Pdimitri) on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 - 12:50 pm: Edit

As an alternative, any possible consideration to using the megahex type counters or something more graphic?
