Is the new Module J SSD book available as a PDF? I don't see it on Warehouse23.
By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Saturday, November 14, 2020 - 01:49 pm: Edit |
It isn't ready as a PDF. We are waiting for the color SSDs.

Where can I read about the Trade Wars?
I assume since it's late in the timeline there isn't a ton of stuff, but that there's probably some older stuff somewhere. Is any of it still canon?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 - 05:26 am: Edit |
I doubt that five sentences exist on that subject. There is nothing in the file. Nobody remembers where it came from, who had the idea, or what we were going to do with it. Frankly, given so many projects on the list and the total lack of interest in this subject (by me) I think you can see if the new owners (if that ever happens) have any ideas. I'm just not interested. There was some vague idea that during that period the borders would be pulled back and the neutral zones would be five hexes wide, creating a wild west outposts and defended coloniest gestalt.

The Trade Wars are mentioned in the SFB, Commander's Edition, Supplement 2. It is available in PDF.

Volume 2 or Supplement 2?
By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 - 01:17 pm: Edit |
I think there were some references in the Star Fleet Warlord material but I’m sure most of that is fictional anyway.

Mike, thanks. Fixed.

As I recall, the Trade Wars were from the old X-2 supplement. The basic idea (again, this is as I remember things) was that, because of limits imposed on the Galactic Powers by the Organians, there were only a few ships for each border. For this reason, the massive, "General War" type battles were out of the question.
Did this mean an end to wars? No. The Trade Wars were a series of eruptions in the border tensions, but due to no power being able to concentrate enough forces on a single border (at least not without weakening all their other borders), nobody could prosecute beyond simiple skirmishing in the contested zones.
Again, my memory of the subject isn't perfect (it has been over three decades since I looked at any of it), but as I recall, most of these "Trade Wars" amounted to posturing with the occasional small scale action, and most ended up being smoothed over by diplomats.
This sound right to anyone else?

About my memory, yeah. Basically, SVC summed it up.
Each X-2 ship was expected to cover a VAST territory and play multiple roles within that territory.
NZ hexes were greatly expanded, so lots of no-man's land in which anything was up for grabs and possession was 9/10 of the law.

Some quick questions as I am updating my rulebooks soon.
Is there a complete Table of Contents for the rules?
or
Is there a template for a Table of Contents?
and
Which products are going to be updated within the next 4 months?
By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 - 11:10 am: Edit |
While not a "Table of Contents," John, there is the Master Index, Annex #1, starting on page 1 of the Master Annex File, Captain's Module G3.

Is there (official or player-generated) campaign from the POV of a Space Dragon?
Would such a campaign even make sense?
By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 - 03:22 pm: Edit |
Now that would be cool. A captain's game using a space dragon.
By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 - 03:58 pm: Edit |
Perhaps the Branthodon might work. Only problem is, someone would need to do an Omega chart for the Captain's Game.
Hmm...
I'm a little bored. Maybe I'll take a shot at it.

Johnny
My suggestion is buy the Master electronic rule book. The best 50$ I have spent in a long time. There are still some newer things not in there. However there is a lot of good things in there.
By Johnny Casady (Phythalion) on Friday, November 20, 2020 - 01:44 am: Edit |
Jeff, Greg, thank you for your replies! What I want to do is build as complete and organized a rule book for the original quadrant and insert the rules in the right place. My issue is that I have an old copy of the master rules, 2000 I think, and it does not have spaces in between rules where newer rules can be inserted. It is instead a continuous text. In contrast in the individual products I've noticed that rules end and note something like "Herein endeth F3.0, Rules F4.0 and F8.0 are in Advanced Missions" Which would seem to help when adding new rules. And I haven't decided if I'm just going to order the dead tree version or the e-version and print it out...

Is there somewhere on the BBS for Triangulum?

Over here, yes.

My dueling opponent wants to play a 350 BPV battle next week. Probably a lone enormous ISC.
What would you take? I'm thinking a Fed A20M carrier with escorts should show why big ships don't cruise around by their lonesome.
Or maybe a Hydran CV with Stinger H Megapacks and escorts?
I'm trying to avoid a map full of drones...
By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Monday, November 23, 2020 - 07:35 pm: Edit |
How about a Hydran Dragoon and a Mongol 338 BPV. 9 st-2s 3 fusions on the Mongol and 4 hellbores on the Dragoon. Are the COs included in BPV?
The Gats on the Ftrs can take out plasma and the Helbores can duel with the PPDs.
