A programmer has created this Android APP for us. Al got it to work and showed it to Steve Petrick and myself. We like the way it works and plan to market this as the first of a series of software projects.

I need two volunteers with active local real world opponents and Android devices to test it for us.

Hi all,

I'm very excited to be getting this app closer to release. Here's some info on it:

1. It's only on Android for now. There are several reasons. First and foremost is that I'm an Android developer with very little iOS experience. I'd love to learn but that takes time I don't always have. Second is that Apple takes a lot more out of developers in terms of effort and companies in terms of money. They like to release OS patches which break applications.

2. It manages a DAC for any number of units. The damage can be rolled automatically or entered manually. It will be stored across launches so you'll still have your data if you have to leave a game and come back. The DAC can handle both PFs and Ships/Bases. There is also a way to manually damage a system and/or repair it.

3. It runs on tablets and phones. It's a lot prettier on phones because there is more room.

4. It contains an impulse chart which shows which units are moving on which impulses and in what order. For instance two units moving the same speed will be sorted by type, nimble vs. normal, etc.

5. It has a tool for calculating distances between two hexes. I'm working on another tool for calculating speeds when units are tractored.

6. It is under constant development as my group finds more things we want. Once it's in production we'll be taking feedback from users to find more things to add.

To clarify, is this for the Star Fleet Battles DAC and Impulses only, or does it have an option to cover the Federation Commander DAC and Impulses also?

And speaking of options, is it able to cover alternative damage procedures in SFB? Three examples I can think of at the moment are the PF DAC in (K5.1), the Souldra dark matter damage procedure in (OG10.0), as well as the Bolosco ability to "lock the bulkheads" under (OR20.033).

@Gary: SFB Only. At least for now. There may be another app in the future for FC.

It handles PFs but not the others. At least not until there's a demand for them.

I reached out to Al. It'll take a little bit to go from complete to the store. Once Al gives it the go ahead it depends on how quickly Jean can get that stuff set up.

Unfortunately I haven't had anything in the android play store for almost a decade and their requirements have changed a ton so I won't be much help in that department.

I wonder if this app will run on Windows via a Virtual Machine running Android.

While I understand the reasons why it won't end up on iOS/iPadOS doesn't stop me from wanting it.

Yes, it will run in an Android emulator. I recommend using one with a tablet's dimensions as the app looks much better in the larger screen.
