Hopefully already in line if you need someone else Andy.

By Bill Schoeller (Bills) on Friday, August 20, 2021 - 02:27 am: Edit

He het in late in turn 2 after I fired disruptors on his rear shield. At that point he was able to get on my down 6, but gave up his weak 6 as well. If he could have gotten me off his 6 shield before I fired disruptors on impulse 1 turn 3 it would have been worth it.

Thanks for the responses, Bill and Peter.

Having stock configurations for the Orion makes sense for balance reasons. I guess I am just used to players picking what they want for the option mounts.

The HET makes more sense now since it came right after the rear shield was hit. There also seems to be some maneuvering going on that is hard to convey over a text description.

An Awesome Game with Lots of Drones!

Jack you're next in line if we need another sub!

SO I lost my game against Jason. A come from ahead loss for the ages....he survived a breakdown, and still beat me.
I was behind him and trashing his rear shields, for 3 turns, he had a few minor internals but was in a bad spot...so he made an attempt at Swinging the Bitch Around (tm)... and failed. He took his internals like a man, didn't tumble, and sat there while I did a HET and got 4 phasers in on his down shield...the rest is too painful to recount. Maybe when the anguish subsides a bit...

So Jason gets the TKR and moves on.

The main issue is that in tournament play, the Orion picks 2 option packages when it registers, before it sees what it is fighting (and will potentially fight), which is why it gets 2 packages to choose from. In this tournament, you get a random ship, and see what your opponents are all at once. So just getting handed two (generally good) packages makes the most sense. The WAX (HB, gat, disr, drn) and GBS (drone, drone) do the same thing.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Monday, August 23, 2021 - 10:42 am: Edit

I have lost track of the tree and don't know if I and/or my opponent were substituted to let the tournament process. If I can help get the tournament sorted I'm back from travel.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, August 23, 2021 - 11:44 am: Edit

I think the tree progress is:

R1:

1.1 Dan B (Lyran) vs. Geoff C (Gorn)

1.2 Jack T (FED G) vs. Ron B. (Vudar)

1.3 Dana M. (Orion HGHBB/FGFf1) vs. Bill S (Kzinti)

1.4 Leslie L (Romulan Firehawk) vs. Graham C (Shark BB)

1.5 Andy K (Rom TKR) vs Jason G (WAX 11g1/111g)

1.6 Justin R (Hydran) vs. Brain E (ISC)

1.7 Majead F (Neo- Tholian) vs Peter B. (LDR)

1.8 Paul Franz (Selt) Seth (Archeo Tholian)

R2:

2.1 CadetStimpy (GRN) vs CaptainRon (FED G)

2.2 BS (ORI) vs

2.3 TheHood? (TKR) vs

2.4 bakija (NTC) vs

So we need:

-1.4 to resolve (originally Graham vs Leslie; unclear on status of Leslie).

-1.6 to resolve; I think Brian had to bail, so probably needs a replacement player.

-1.8 to resolve; seems like those two should be on top of it? Maybe it already played and I missed it?

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - 03:10 am: Edit

Thanks Peter for the status.

If we are to believe that both 1.4 and 1.6 require a replacement, then I think Jack is first in line, maybe I'm next? I'm ready to take on either of these battles.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - 08:08 am: Edit

Ok, 1.6 is actually:

-Justin R (HYD) and Wayne (ISC)

(I missed that conversation in the discussion above). Could Justin and/or Wayne chime in and indicate that wheels are turning?

Graham (as you are generally playing attention :-), can you confirm that you have not heard from your opponent for 1.4? If so, it looks like Jack is next replacement in line. Geoff is next after that.

Any news from 1.8 (Paul and Seth)?

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - 11:05 am: Edit

Confirmed. Wayne is already in for Brian.
Jack is in for Les if that's good for Jack.
Geoff, you will be next up if someone backs out.

Peter,
Thanks for the help. You are, as they say, the man

Always willing to help out!

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - 01:49 pm: Edit

I am in, working on scheduling already.

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - 07:53 pm: Edit

Jack and I are going to try for tomorrow night and see how far we get. How far we get probably depends on how many EPT's Jack feels the need for...

Duplicate post

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Thursday, August 26, 2021 - 11:55 pm: Edit

Graham (Shark) over MadJack (Firehawk)

I mistakenly used 1 point of power I did not have and caught it a few impulses after it happened.
I would not have died had I not done it but it made a big enough difference that there was no way to continue.

Good luck to Graham in the next round!

By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Friday, August 27, 2021 - 12:10 pm: Edit

Following the extremely regrettable end of my round 1 game, I believe I am set to face Bill Schoeller's Orion in my Firehawk.

By Ronald J. Brimeyer (Captainron) on Monday, August 30, 2021 - 02:24 pm: Edit

Game 2:1. 3 sessions, 8 hours, and going into turn 16. Turn 2 Fed ran through a full EPT to get R8 shot. Hit with 3 photons, rolled well on P-1s and did 37 int. Turn 3 Took a R5 shot. Missed with F-bolt and rolled poor on P-1s and only got 4 int. Hit a Photon and p-3. Turns 4,5and 6 were mostly running. Turn 7 Fed charged took what he hoped was a Fake S and slightly down graded F on the #6. Guessed wrong and lost another Photon. I should have held fire but decided to take a R6 shot. Missed with both photons and rolled poorly on P-1s. Turn 8 I managed to get to R1 on his #3. Did about a dozen int. Turns 9 to 15 have been a cat and mouse game with Fed taking some long range Photon shots (all misses) and the Gorn parking, going reverse, parking, going forward, and launching Plasma. Going into turn 16 Fed has 34 power, 2 photons, 7 P-1s, a P-3, and almost no shields. Gorn has 26 power, all 4 plasmas, 4 P-1s and strong 1,2,4, and 6 shields. Turn 15 Fed fired photons and Gorn launched all but 1 S torp. The Fed has 2 shuttles left and F-torp 2 hexes away that will hit for 15 on Imps.2.

Game 1.6 has completed turn 1,
the Hydran is in hex 3421A, fighters in 3222A, the ISC is in hex 2216D, a Plasma G launched on 1.32 (hex 2216C).

May continue play later on this week, or on the weekend.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 - 10:10 am: Edit

so it looks like Paul F is unavailable for this one.
I am plugging Geoff into 1.8
I sent him an e mail yesterday to confirm.
Let's see how that goes.

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, September 01, 2021 - 12:22 am: Edit

Hey Andy,

Just saw this, I'm in 1.8, ok, thanks.

Seltorian! OK, I will re-read those rules and contact Seth.

Regards,
Geof

captainron over CadetStimpy after 20 turns. Gorn had 10 power, a newly repaired F-torp, and a S-torp that could not launch until Turn 22. Fed was 5 hexes away, had 28 power, 1 Photon (ready on turn 21) 5 P-1s, and a TOTAL of 3 shield boxes. Very intense game.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, September 02, 2021 - 02:33 pm: Edit

Whoah. Was the end of T20 a concession, on the grounds that on T21, the Fed was gonna hit the Gorn with an OL and 5xP1 on a weak/down shield?
