No formula, just eyeball judgement based on previous ships.

Shawn, you would need to talk to me before you started and you would not expect instant replies.

I have a question regarding the Seltorian Hive and Nest Ships--how much in the way of resources would they require to produce, say in comparison to the B10. Because while the 200 year flight time makes intergalactic expeditions improbable, I can see a number of nations that almost lost their capital ship yards (or did, like the Hydrans) expressing some interst in the idea of a flying shipyard.
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, October 25, 2021 - 11:46 am: Edit |
They make the B10 look like a backyard hobby project. In F&E terms, they use the same build procedures as battleships, including the requirement to build at a major shipyard. A B10 has an EP cost of 36, while a NS is 42 and a HS 56.
So in just raw game terms and the logistics these represent, such a unit is far beyond the capabilities of the Hydrans or Kzintis (laying one down is basically sending the Coalition a special invite to assault their capital to destroy the hull in progress), and a pointless waste of resources for any other empire. The Seltorians were able to build them because they had galaxy-wide resources to draw upon, including the original cargo versions of those hulls, and multiple F&E major shipyards. That's before even considering the unique aspects of Seltorian biology, psychology, and society, relying on the nature of Workers to create working and living conditions that most other species would find intolerable in order to fit everything into the ships and operate them. Note that in F&E these ships cannot be captured.

Is the B10P (Stellar Exploitation Ship) SSD available somewhere?

I don't know about the B10P, but there is a Stellar Domination Ship (B10S) in Module R5 and her upgunned sister, the B11S, is in Module R7.

The B10P has only appeared as a Shapeway miniature. (By the description it has 12 Gunboats and 12 Fighters.) Also awaiting the WB10P, WB10V, and WC10 which appeared on Shapeway.
The WB10 is in the newsletter extras.

Shapeways is where I saw this monstrosity. I have of course ordered one to adorn my desk for 2022. How can one not love a ship with so many PFs that two had to be glued onto the back sideways?
Curious to get the official SFB and F&E stats and history, although based upon B10S they are not too difficult to predict.

You should email Steve Petrick and ask him if he has done the B10P ssd yet. If not, it's good fodder for the newsletter, maybe in April.

The B10P, Heavy Gunboat Tender Battleship, can be found in CL54 Pg-17. B10P heavy gunboat tender (Insouciant): Replace the forward disruptors with special sensors and install 12 mech links (six of which are repair capable).
There is no ship with exploitation in its name.
The only stellar Klingon ship is the B11S - Stellar Domination Ship.

The B10P up on Shapeways appears to be named differently:

Or perhaps the ship has changed since CL54?

The CL54 B10P (Heavy PF Tender) is not quite the same as the Shapeway B10P (Stellar Exploitation Ship). Shapeway model does not have special sensors and it clearly states a Z-Y squadron.

It seems Shapeway should be updated.

The Borak module page does not indicate it comes with countersheets,
(https://www.starfleetstore.com/new-world-modules-c-1_6/module-e3-the-borak-p-821.html)
Where do you suggest, is there a product that has countersheets for the Borak Star League?
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Tuesday, January 04, 2022 - 12:40 pm: Edit |
Jeff, as a playtest module, there is no countersheet. Some playtest ships from E2 and SSJ1 got a sheet here, but there hasn't been anything with Borak ships to my knowledge.

I was hoping there was something on Jeremy Gray's website, but unfortunately no. He does have some cool mini's though.

Thanks Alex Chobot. I did not realize playtest did not have them.

FYI the link for Gorn minis on this page,
http://www.starfleetgames.com/miniatures.shtml
Does not link to any Gorn fighter minis. I cycled through the next and forward and did not see any.

The Gorns just use Fed F-18 metal fighters. Shapeways gave them unique fighters.
By Mike West (Mjwest) on Saturday, January 15, 2022 - 04:15 pm: Edit |
The Gorns use G-18 and G-12 fighters. They are effectively interchangeable. As far as minis go, the G-18 is identical to a Federation F-18, and the G-12 is identical to the never-produced Federation F-12.

Could a ISC fleet under S8 have both a Gunline battle group and a regular Battle group?
As gun line: 2DD 1 DDL 3 FF (counts as 4 ships)
Battle Group: CS CM CL 3 DD. (counts as 5 ships)
leaving flag ship DN (10) and scout.
Battle line of 1 ship? gives 15 ships total.
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Friday, January 21, 2022 - 05:12 pm: Edit |
Gregory, (S8.281) limits a force to a single battle group. While (S8.284) does not include the explicit prohibition that (S8.283) Federation carrier battle groups does on combing with a standard battle group, it does essentially define them as an ISC specific variant of the battle group. Moreover, F&E rule (324.43) does explicitly prohibit use of a Battle Group and a Gunline Group in the same Battle Force.

So, here's a question: Legally, how does hiring Orion Mercs work? It's mentioned that for example, some orion carriers were hired to do patrolling in less vital sectors during the war.
okay, but that means that the Federation for example, has to have some way to not just hire, but make an orion ship patrolling in sector X, legal, at least for a given period of time.
So, could say, an orion ship that "kept it's nose clean" work solely as an auxillary to one of the Empires and thus, so long as it was working as part of their organization, be unmolested in it's day to day operations?
By Daniel Eastland (Democratus) on Monday, January 31, 2022 - 08:50 am: Edit |
I would imagine that legeitamate business existed which could contract out ships for purposes like patrol. And then these businesses would out-source the work via "channels".
