thanks guys for all your work. Iknow its out there somewhere.

Question: is there any F&E information for the C4 races?

By Ginger McMurray (Gingermcmurray) on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 11:45 am: Edit

I'd ask that in the F&E section. You'll probably get a faster answer.

By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - 05:10 pm: Edit

Not that I'm aware of.

Does ADB maintain a list of authorised sites? Is it public?

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 07:31 pm: Edit

What do you mean by "authorized sites"?

There are several fan sites, and as long as they follow some simple rules ADB is fine with them. But those are not "authorized" so much as permitted.

By Shawn Gordon (Avrolancaster) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 10:18 pm: Edit

I was reading the On-Line Policy and they used the nomenclature of "authorized" and "unauthorized."

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 12:16 am: Edit

Authorized sites are the ones that follow the rules.

We don't maintain a public list.

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 08:16 am: Edit

I stand corrected.

Woo! I have an "authorized" website! Neat!

Are there image files for the various race emblems?

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 10:13 am: Edit

Ginger, they have this: http://www.starfleetgames.com/minis/race.pdf

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 - 11:34 am: Edit

There are a few others elsewhere on the ADB site and elsewhere:

More detailed versions of several Alpha Octant empires are here and here, while this file explains the logos for the five "pre-ISC" factions;

A list of Omega faction emblems is in this PDF, while the emblem for the playtest Zosman Marauders is in the Captain's Log #50 Supplemental File;

A set of emblems for the Lesser Magellanic Cloud empires are in the FC LMC playtest file;

While sample logos for the M81 Pirates are shown here.

This is the silicon beach character set. If it's not on this page the font doesn't have it.

Question for SVC and SPP,

I have just noticed that Annex #13 in Module G3 lists several play aids as being in the Advanced Missions SSD book, and I remember having older printings with those aids. However the current 2014 revision does not have any play aids included (and they were not shifted to the AM rulebook).

With Module R1 currently being updated, and already having numerous play aids, could the missing AM items be included there? And of course Annex #13 updated to match.

For reference, the missing play aids are:

Drone Record Form
Plasma Record Form
Player Master Record Form
Useful Charts and Tables (though G3 does have a similar page)

In looking over Annex #13, the following items from various Captain's Logs may also be worth considering:

Particle Cannon Record Sheet (CL14 inside front cover)
Pseudo Speed Calculation Chart (CL11 inside front cover)
Speed Change Record Form (CL15 inside front cover)
Tactical Intelligence Reference Card (CL12 insider front cover)
Unit Tracking Cards (CL11 inside back cover)

I know Module A+ basically had an entire book of play aids but that's almost certainly beyond the scope of the R1 revision.

Thanks!

Pound for Pound, who's got the best Fast Cruiser?

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Thursday, September 01, 2022 - 04:02 pm: Edit

That might depend on how the ship is being used: primarily as a raider, or as a fast responder.

The ISC have the most powerful - or at least the most expensive - fast cruiser, which perhaps is best suited to the kind of fast response missions one might see asigned to the historical Pacification cordons, or alternatively to the Romulan and Paravian borders over in the "Mapsheet P" timelines.

In contrast, the FastHawk might be the best "raiding" fast cruiser, courtesy of that handy cloaking device. Plus, the "Mongoose" version of this ship looks particularly striking, in my view - as does its smaller sibling, the "Mongoose"-type Fast SparrowHawk.

Although, for "raiding" fast cruisers which have to get by without the use of a cloak, one could perhaps make an argument for the Paravian fast cruiser. For one thing, it's got 20 boarding parties, plus the ability to land on planets in order to deploy them. For another, since Paravian ships in Module C6 do not get AWR refits, the Paravian fast cruiser has the rare luxury of discretionary warp power with which to overload its quantum wave torpedoes - even if it only has two QWTs compared to the heavy cruiser's four.

By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Friday, September 02, 2022 - 10:24 am: Edit

I concur with Gary Carney that it is likely to depend on the mission. Also, are you allowing "conjectural" Fast Cruisers in the discussion? If so, there's a lot to be said for the NCF, the conjectural fast cruiser based on the Neo-Tholian NCA.* IT's more expensive than most fast cruisers and several of them generate more power (The Hydran Thoroughbred fast cruiser generates 49 points of power, one point more than the Fed CX generates). But I think there's a strong case that the Neo-Tholian NCF has the best weapon suite of any fast cruiser.

*The Tholians did build a "historical" fast cruiser based on their Archeo-Tholian CA, and it kind of takes the opposite approach. It's a little weak compared to most CAFs but it's also cheaper than they are. Comparing the Tholian CAF to its "natural enemy", the Klingon FD7, it's not at all clear the Tholians get the worst of the deal, once BPVs are taken into account. So the Tholians cover both ends (if you allow conjectural ships). The CAF is a bit weak, but it's inexpensive. The NCF is expensive but it has a lot of firepower for a fast cruiser.

One thing about the Fasthawk (and other Big Plasma Fast ships) is the superior ability of fast ships (compared to standard/non-fast) to distance themselves from seeking weapons in flight.

If you're looking for a "Fast vs. Fast" duel, perhaps one of the big direct-fire folks might have an edge over Big Plasma?

Are there any megahex 1" counters for shuttles, drones, and plasma?

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Tuesday, September 06, 2022 - 01:41 pm: Edit

There are not. The general idea was always to use the standard 1/2" counters for those, allowing ships to be readily identified in comparison to them.

By Ginger McMurray (Gingermcmurray) on Tuesday, September 06, 2022 - 11:56 pm: Edit

Too bad. We use minis for ships and having larger counters would have been great.
