Watched Turn 8 of the MadJack (GRN) vs Madman (THN) fight last night. Both ships are very low on shields and have moderate internals (maybe, like, 20 each? No one is particularly mangled, and both ships are down 4-5 power, but generally speaking, they are still viable ships). The Tholian ended the turn at speed 4 with an incoming plasma S (possibly a pseudo?) launched from about 8 hexes away late in the turn. Not sure how many shuttles the Tholian has left.

The Tholian has a full #2 shield, and then a bunch of down ones. The Gorn has mostly down rear shields, which are facing the Tholian currently. Both ships have most of their guns still, except most significantly, the Tholian lost the Web Caster last turn.

There was a point where I said, if I saw the down #1 I would have bolted the S instead of launch it.

I made a roll after saying that and it was a "6".

I made an allocation error between turns 5 and 6. I had used my batteries for a HET turn 5 but did not discharge them in the allocation. I probably would have picked up on that if we had continued playing that night but we saved the game. I actually allocated a full HET turn 4 and that also probably screwed the optics up for me a couple days later.

In the end, the effect was I fired 2 p1's at him for 8 points of shield damage that I otherwise would not have been able to fire. Everything else would have remained the same.

Dana wins and I am sorry for wasting Dana's time on a 2nd day of battle. Happens hardly ever, but if it does, it's almost always when I save a game like this.

Sucks that it how it ended! Sometimes you make an error like that, from which it is not really possible to undo in fairness (my plasma error vs Moose was in the same category, a few Sapphires ago). Sounds like a great battle.

I don't feel bad about it. It's not hard to imagine how it could happen when saving a game. I haven't played a lot of Gorn and felt I played it pretty decent. Dana also played well. Very even game with some weird dice both ways. I'd honestly rather go down this way than get beat over the head by dice.

Most importantly - I learned a very important detail out of the game that is going to make a big difference going forward in the Gorn for me - so in that way it is a big win. I am going to become a Gorn Menace one day.

A nice fast game

T1: GRN moves 15/17/24 (18 moves) with an enveloper on tube B and some reinforcement and a suicide shuttle, neither of which were important. HYD moves 17/26/27 (late). We just move up the map. At R13, I launch enveloper B. HYD speeds up to 26 and turns across my bow. GRN turns B (so we are facing HYD #2 to GRN #6). HYD just slips away and eventually turns away to dir B. GRN turns A late in the turn. We end at R12.

T2: GRN moves 17 for a few impulses then 24 all turn (23 moves), rearms plasma, has power in HET and tractor, and a suicide held. HYD moves 20, speeding up to 27 at some point that is convenient, which may or may not have been batteries. HYD moves dir B into the NE corner, launching the fighters early in the turn. The enveloper closes, eventually hitting for 10 total damage around the HYD ship. GRN turns in and folows the HYD into the corner. HYD turns back towards the GRN as the GRN gets close. At R9 or so, GRN launches S+F (50) plasma out of the left wing. We close, and end up at R4, GRN #2 facing HYD #2 right on the hex line. HYD realizes it is too late to emergency decel and avoid the plasma. HYD blasts the GRN with 5xP1, 2x std HB, all the fighter fusions from a hex behind. The GRN cripples one of the fighters at R5 with the two front P1s. The fighter fusions roll ok, both HBs hit, the GRN loses the #2 shield and takes 14 in (losing 2 phasers and some power). Next impulse, plasma gets to R1 of the HYD, who speeds up to 27. GRN launches the facing F torp. HYD shoots GRN again with 2 ship fusions and the fighter gatlings, doing another 4 internals, and gatlings the plasma for 7 off the F torp warhead. Next impulse, GRN HETs around into dir C, HYD moves forward and takes the plasma on the #3 shield for 16 internals (38 warhead, shield had 2 hits from earlier), losing a HB and a couple phasers. One more impulse, GRN gets a couple P1s into the down shield for another 10 in. HYD then turns in to the GRN, getting us to R1, GRN #1 to HYD #2, with plasma F in GRN's hex. HYD then decides to slip into R0 (to avoid taking the plasma on the down #3), takes 20 from the F torp, followed by 2xP1 and a P3 through the remaining shield for another 7 or 8 internals. The ships seperate a bit, the GRN kills both fighters by the end of the turn (rear P1s and tractors), and the HYD surrenders.

HYD was missing all 5xP1 and both HBs from the three volleys of internals.

2.4 Spartan (ISC) vs Kingzilla (HYD)

Turn 1 - ISC plots 16/24 late, holding 2xG and with 10 general reinforcement. HYD plots 16/26 late, holding 2xStd HB and with 6 pts reinforcement on 6/1/2. Fighters come out on 1.2, and we generally close the range. 1.24, about range 9, ISC launches 2xG (one real on fighter #2, and one fake on HYD), and also fires PPD at shield #1, which is absorbed. 1.28, ISC fires FA/R Ph-1 at fighter #1, range 6 and scores a point. Next impulse 1.29 HYD turns in, showing the #1 with no additional reinforcemnent, labs plasma, and blasts plasma with a whole bunch of phasers, while ISC blasts the #1 with 5xph-1s, scoring 20 and leaving 4 boxes. 1.30, ISC turns away, launches plasma D at HYD, fighters blast with fusions, about range 5-6, score 3 points on the #5, which see reinforcement. Plasma C hits fighter for 3 pts. 1.31, hurt fighter is landed, 1.32 HYD blasts ISC with 2xStd HB, which get spread out across three rear shields, and blasts plasma D. HYD = 4/29/24/24/22/21

Turn 2 - ISC plots 24/30/24/17 plot, does not arm PPD, or much phasers. HYD plots 14/20, rearms and repairs 2 on #1. ISC spins around, runs against the south wall, HYD pursues and tries not to give a shot at the hurt #1. 2.31 HYD turns in and ISC launches plasmas C+E. HYD reponds with 5xPh-1s and 2xFusion, dropping the #3 to 3 boxes.

Turn 3 - ISC plots 17/12/6 arms PPD and puts 7 reinforcement on #3, 3 to phasers. HYD plots 4/14/13/14 to use first WW against 40 pts of known real plasma. 3.1 HYD fires 2xStd HB, hits with one which sandpapers around, but weak shield holds due to reinforcement. ISC = 27/26/3/16/16/27. ISC turns away to hide the weak #3, and gradually slows down, considers going into retrograde over the turn break, but uses reserve to stay at speed 12. HYD generally pursues, turning north a bit, as ISC comes around to the south.

Turn 4 - ISC plots 12/17/23 late, completes PPD, completes D, B rolling, C is second turn. HYD plots 14/26, does not arm HB, arms fusions and plans an overrun. 4.2 HYD launches fighters. HYD turns in showing the #6, ISC is moving obliquely (#6 to #6), 4.8 ISC launches 40 points, fake B and D. 4.9 ISC cripples fighter #2 with a ph-1 (3 pts previous damage, unrepaired?) 4.10 HYD HETS dir C with reserve, showing #2, ISC is range 5 to HYD, gets to range 3 with fighters, finishes with 3xph-1s. Fighters which change speed to 14 to get a movementat the right moment, blast for 13, leaving ISC = 27/26/3/16/16/14. 4.11 some fire at plasmas B+D, which are closing in. 4.12, ISC turns north to put both G-torps in arc and launches 40 pts (G and quick F), ISC finishes crippled fighter with ph-3. 4.12 HYD emer decels, stops on 4.14, launches WW #2 on 4.15. , takes somes ph-1s from HYD across #1 and #2. ISC fires last ph-1s (360) at HYD, leaving 6/29/16/24/22/21. 4.21, HYD holds last ph-1 (360) and ph-Gs for the inevitable angles on #3, hits for 3 then 1, sees 1 reinforcement, eventually drops the shield, ISC = 20/14/0/16/16/14.

Turn 5 - ISC plots 0/-8/-4, overloads PPD, 6 to phasers, finishes torp E and starts arming B/C/D. HYD plots 0/9, starts arming HB again, holds fusions, 4 reinf on #6. 5.6 PPD fires over 6 impulses, leaving HYD = 6/19/4/14/20/21. Speed changes and maneuver, on 5.22 range 6-8, HYD with 2 fusions, 2xph-1s leaving ISC = 11/14/0/16/16/14. ISC blasts with 6xph-1s on the HYD #1 for 17, 2 reinf 2, takes 9 internals (HB, FUS, 1xph-1, 1xwarp, fluff). 5.26 ISC launches torp E, after ph-G and 6 reinf, hits the #6, leaving HYD = 0/19/4/14/20/14.

Turn 6 - ISC plots -10/-17/-12, starts arming PPD, 2xG+F. HYD plots 9/14, OLs HB. 6.1 again range 6-8, fire exchange, ISC fires 6xph-1s does 22 to the #2, sees 8 reinf, leaves HYD = 0/19/4/14/20/0, HYD blasts with 4xph-1s, for 22, sees 8 reinf, and then hits with OL HB, leaves ISC = 4/0/0/14/14/12 and does 4xinternals, hits 1xRear F on torp, 1xph-3, 1x warp. Late in the turn, ISC deploys 3xshuttles, which absorb Ph-Gs. HYD ends the turn at range 3 off of the 12 box #6, and ISC bears on HYD 19 box #2. HYD repairs ph-1 as ph-2.

Turn 7 - ISC plots -17/-8/-4, completes PPD, G-torps and 1xF, 5 to phasers, 3 reinf on #6. HYD plots 9/4/14, plots second HET. 7.1 ISC launches torp D, HYD blasts with 4xph-1s, 1xph-2, rolls hot, doing 23, sees 5 reinf and leaves ISC = 4/0/0/14/14/0, and doing 6xinternals, destroys D on torp, and phaser. ISC moves back to range 4-5, now bears on the weak #3, fires PPD and 6xph-1s, leaves HYD = 0/18/0/13/20/0, and does 13 internals (HB, 2xphasers). HYD launches WW #3, for torp D, and also breaks wavelock for pulses 2 and 3, but pulse 4 hits home, does 5 internals to take FUS and phaser-1 360. 7.18 ISC launches G torp, HYD successfully HETS again, takes it on #5 for 20, leaves HYD = 0/17/0/13/0/0. 7.24 HYD blasts with 2xFUS and ph-G at range ~8, rolls hot, scores 8 internals through #3, 3xphasers, including 2xph-1s. HYD turns away and fires other ph-G at range ~8, hits for 1, but sees general reinf.

Turn 8 - ISC plots 0/8/4 to go into forward movement again, arms G-torp as enveloper. HYD plots 14/20, plots third HET, 8.1 ISC launches at range ~8, HYD runs at speed 14, but by about 8.10 plasma will hit on 8.11 for full strength, HYD slips and plasma moves off of #5, HYD then attempts 3rd HET to slip away from torp, breaks down and concedes. At the end of that turn, ISC would repair rear-F for PPD padding, but the HET from the plasma would bring a down #1 to the 4 remaining ISC phaser-1s.

The HYD/ISC battle was quite interesting to read. While the Hydran is always vulnerable to Mizia, at the numbers of internals done in each volley I'd say the Hydran got rather unlucky. Had the HBs lasted, it may have been a bit harder for the ISC.

3.1 bakija (GRN) vs madman (NTC)

3 turns in.

T1: Gorn moves 16 till 22, then 24. Tholian moves 16 till 16, then 28, slowing down to 26 on 24. I move up the map, Tholian moves down. At R17 or so, I launch enveloper B and turn off. Tholian launches a web to catch the enveloper, comes through the web, gets to R8 centerlined off my #5, blasts me with 7xP1, 4xOL, hits with 2OL, does 25 total damage, sees 4 reinforcement, leaves my #5 at 3 boxes. GRN fired back with 5xP1, rolled well, did 16 in return to NTC #1 (all sticks). GRN launches another S torp out of A tube, Tholian turns off, plasma catches up, we end at about 8 hexs, Tholian on the wrong side of the web as plasma closes in.

T2: GRN moves 24/23, slowing down to 17 on 12. NTC moves 26/23, slowing to 21 for the second half of the turn. Plasma S gets to R1 on impulse 1. Tholian HETs back towards the web, dodging the plasma. GRN just comes back toward the NTC. Tholian gets through the web, snaggles up the S torp (and the enveloper a second time). GRN closes in some. Web drops, enveloper evaporates, plas S closes and eventually hits after 21 moves, but was unsurprisingly fake. Meanwhile, GRN gets a R4 centerlined shot on the NTC's #3 shield. GRN fires 6xP1, 2xF bolt, figuring if one bolt hits, I'm doing well here, and if both hit, I'm solidly winning. Roll fine on phasers, bolts roll 5, 6 and whiff. I do 20 damage, leave the shield at 4 boxes. Tholian fired back with 2xP1 at my #1 for 8 (which all sticks). Tholian gets another web up (str 6, 5 hexes), we wheel around a bit, I get another P1 on the weak shield, do 3 damage, see 2 reinforcement. We end with the Tholian adjacent to the web on the wrong side for me, about 5 hexes.

T3: GRN moves 16 all turn. Tholilan moves 28/21/15. Tholian slips into the web, GRN gets directly behind the Tholian at R3 with web in the way, Tholian shoots my #2 for 15 damage with 4xP1. GRN moves around the other side of the web, Tholian moves off. Web drops, ships start turning in a circle. GRN sees R7 off the 3 box #3, fires 4xP1, rolls hot, does 11 damage, sees 5 reinforcement, does 3 in (warp, 2 hull). Ships spiral more, GRN gets another P1 in the hole, does 3 more in (P3, hull). Tholian slows down to 15, so GRN has move advantage. Impulse 30, Tholian turns, GRN HETs back, get R6 centerlined on down #3 on NTC. Fires last 3xP1, rolls well, does 10 internals. Tholian throws up another weak 5 hex web that will be solid on impulse 2 on T4. One more hex of move, Tholian gets 3xFH P1 on GRN #1 at R6, does another 8 damage. We end the turn at 6 hexes, Tholian facing C, GRN facing A, GRN #1 to NTC #2, Tholain has a weak 5 hex web that it is in the first hex of, and it extends off in direction C.

GRN shields are 14-15-24-24-3-30, no internals.

NTC shields are 14-30-0-24-24-30, has 16 internals, including 3 power (warp), P3, disruptor, tractor, the snare, 9 hull (all F gone).

Game will continue at some point in the near future.

3.1 bakija (GRN) over madman (NTC).

We start T4 at R6, GRN facing A, NTC facing C in the first hex of a straight line 5 hex weak web that will solidify on impulse 2. NTC had 16 internals, down #3, GRN is facing full NTC #2 with a half strength #1.

T4: GRN moves 23 till 7, 11 till 15, 5 till 23, 4 till end (10 moves), finishes a standard S torp (having 2 armed on the ship), second turn arming both F tubes, recharges batteries, puts 8 in phasers, 3 in tractor, turns on ship. NTC is speed 0 with a couple TACs (speeding up to 4 late), recharges phasers and web caster, overloads 3 disruptors, has 1 weasel armed, starts a second, and puts a couple points in tractor.

I figure I can't tractor the Tholian, and it'll probably start moving backwards to get behind the web on impulse 9, so I plan on a bolt shot. I close in a couple impulses. I launch a couple plain shuttles at R4, I go forward, slip into R2 centerline (my #1 to his #2) on impulse 6, when all my phasers are clear, as is the Tholian WC. I blast the NTC with 2xS bolt, 6xP1, 2xP3. Tholian does not shoot back. I luck out, both bolts hit, phasers roll fine, I do 65 damage to the NTC's full #2. 5 batteries reinforce, I do 30 in, hitting the web caster on the first internal. NTC loses some phasers, a second disruptor, the second tractor, a bunch of power and all the batteries. Impulse 7, I turn off, pointing my full #3 at the NTC at R2 on a split shield line. NTC tacs to face me. I get another P1 in the down #2 for 4 more in. I slow down to 11, move off another hex, NTC TACs again, gets my #3 at R3 centerlined, fires 5xP1, 2xOL. One OL misses, I use some batteries to keep the shield at 1 box, and Dana resigns.

A good game, where I was unlucky early (missing with both F bolts on my first shot), but evened out with the second double S bolt shot.
