I just lost to Spartan's RKR tonight.

The tournament result-report link isn't set up yet for #18.

It was a 2-turn affair. Short version: he cloaked up to my ISC boat, I had to waste an EPT and didn't keep my distance. I got first blood and blocked the anchor, but didn't have either the speed to run out the plasma or the rear firepower to stop it.
Near the end of Turn 2, after I'd weaseled off most (but not all) of 2 plasma waves, he used the rear p3s to Mizia off my PPD and next-to-last plasma, so I conceded.

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Friday, November 22, 2024 - 09:03 am: Edit

Thanks for the good game, it was short and intense. Here is the detailed write-up.

Turn 1 - ISC plots 24/17/24 for 21 total moves, PPD held, plasma B rolling, plasma C as enveloper, two WW held, a third charging. RKR plots 15/12/14/13 for 12 moves, held G-torps, PFC, cloak, no shuttles. RKR turns out and cloaks immediately, ISC moves toward the map center, rolls a 2 to retain lock-on and fails, so RKR uses 2 reserve to accelerate to 14 for the duration of the turn (so that max speed on turn 2 will be 28). Both ships turn a few times, we end at range 4 in the center of the map, both ships right on the spine off the #2 shield. During EOT, ISC discharges enveloper, so Romulans cheer.

Turn 2 - ISC plots 24/17/12 for 20 moves, holds PPD, finishes plasma B as G, begins arming plasma C, 4 to tractor and holding 3 WW. RKR plots 26/25/15 for 22 moves, 2 to HET, 6 to tractor, refills btty. Rom uncloaks immediately, slipping in towards ISC, who is slipping out. About impulse 3 RKR HETs in toward the ISC, now the Rom's #1 off the ISC's #3, and impulse 4 ISC lines up a plasma launch about range 2, 40 points. It looks like Rom might move past them, so the plasma HET to stay on target, and this gives time for the Rom to get out of cloak completely, raise AFC, and fires 3xPh-3s and 1xPh-1 at the F-torp, doing only 19 points. ISC replies with 2xPh-1s (360), hoping to hit the #6, but instead hits the #1, based on the movement precedence. Next imp, ISC turns out, RKR slips to take the plasma on the full #6, taking one internal (LW). Rom continues to pursue, and with the 26/25 speed plot, gains a hex on the ISC, so end up directly behind #1 to #4 at range 1. A tractor auction goes up to 6, but the ISC fights it off successfully. Rom then launches 70 pts (2xF, 1xS fake). ISC fires one Ph-3 at each F, so plasma hits for 34 on the #4, after 3 reinf, 7 internals, which include one rear F. The Rom launches 2xS-torps (one real, one fake), and ISC declares emer decel. After some additional turns by both ships, Rom is able to bring the other side phasers to bear on the down #4, fires 3xPh-1s and 1xPh-3, scores 18 internals, including the other rear F, and gets through the hull to hit most btty. ISC stops and weasels the torps, taking collateral. Rom slows down to 15, and begins to move out in front of the ISC, and once AFC comes up, ISC blasts the Rom with 4xPh-1, scoring 20 points on the #3. Rom moves around to the other side, and impulse 26 launches the last real S-torp, aimed to hit the #4 (unless ISC miraculously has tacs ready). ISC launches WW#2, Rom declares emer decel to stay close to the ISC, and with luck line up a phaser hose out the #4 for Turn 3 impulse 1. Then Rom fires the last two RR 2xPh-3 at range 2 with a 2 shift, rolls well and scores 7 points, and one of those is the PPD, another is one of the G-torps. Putraack decides to concede at this point.

Good Game, Lee!

bakija (GRN) vs madman (LYR)

Three turns in.

T1: GRN moves 16/17/24, enveloper armed in B. LYR moves 16/31 late, has 2 standards I see. I go forward, LYRn turns across my bow. At 15 hexes on impulse 24, I launch enveloper B and then turn right. LYR fires 2 standards at my #6 at about 12 hexes, hits with 1, sees 3 reinforcement. LYR turns off, GRN turns towards LYR. We end at about 12 hexes, LYR moving into NE corner of the map.

T2: GRN moves 24 until late, 25 at some point (probably battery). LYR moves 16/20. GRN closes in. Plasma closes in. LYR moves towards NE corner, turns N, then NW. Enveloper hits LYR for 10 damage spread around. LYR announces both ESGs coming up. GRN gets R4 centerlined on LYR #5. Launches 50 plasma, fires 6xP1 and an F bolt. Bolt hits. Phasers roll fine. Does 12 in, hitting a couple power and a disruptor. Next impulse, LYR HETs directly South. GRN HETs SE, R4 GRN #3 to LYR #1. GRN launches another S torp from facing launcher (one of the S's on the map is fake). LYR drops ESGs and fires 3xOL, 6xP1. All 3x OLs hit, phasers roll mediocre. GRN takes 20 in after a point of reinforcement. GRN loses a few power, an F tube, and 3 phasers. LYR slips to take the 50 plasma on the #2, but the S is fake, so takes 20. GRN fires 2 more P1s at the LYR #1 for about 9 damage. LYR slows down to 15. The second, real S torp hits the LYR #1 for 29 after a P3, doing about 10 internals after a few battery reinforcement. LYR loses some more power, a few phasers, and an ESG. Ships move a few more times, end at R6, GRN against the map edge facing D, LYR facing D, 6 hexes apart, GRN #3 to LYR #6.

T3: GRN moves 24/12. LYR moves 28/15/7. LYR closes behind full #6. GRN launches fast F from tube B and turns to cross LYR bow. LYR slips in to ensure the F torps hits the full #6. GRN gets 4xP1 in the LYR down #1, doing about 16 more in, hitting the second ESG, some power, and some phasers. LYR fires back with 3xOL, 6xP1. 2xOL hit, phasers do ok, LYR does another 15 in through the GRN #5. GRN loses more phasers. The F torp hits the LYR #6 for 20. LYR fires another P1 in the GRN down shield, does 4 internals, hits 3 more phasers. Next impulse, GRN and LYR each fire a P1 through down shields at R3, GRN rolls a 6, LYR rolls a 1. GRN loses every possible phaser it can to damage at this point, and has a single P1 left on the ship. GRN slows down to 12, LYR slows down to 7, GRN launches 4 shuttles, LYR launches 2. LYR turns off to avoid shuttle death. 2 GRN shuttles shoot a LYR shuttle at R2 before it can shoot. Rolls 5, 6, and just damages it for 3. LYR shuttles get a R5 shot on GRN down sheild but miss. GRN moves off. LYR is up against the wall, and has to emergency decel to avoid hitting the wall (and taking 5 in, with a down #1). We and the turn at R15, GRN facing E near the middle of the map. LYR is facing B right against the E wall. There are 4 GRN shuttles around the LYR, 2 LYR shuttles between the two ships.

GRN has 41 internals (after a single P3 repair), down 10 power, 8 phasers, and an f tube. #3 and #5 shields are down, all other shields untouched.

LYR has 37 internals (after a single R10 disruptor repair), down 9 power, both ESGs, 1 disruptor, 5 phasers. Shields 1-10-23-22-0-8. LYR can't move from its hex till, like, Impulse 13 of T4.

I wouldn't feel terrible here, but for the 9 phaser hits I took.

Game will continue at some point; it is a Holliday in the US this upcoming week and family is visiting, so we'll see what we can do.

Kingzilla Orion 2xhells 2x drones & gat vs orgyockbo HYD

I will never forget this game – I had the worse dice in any tournament game – 0 for 4 on OL hellbores and 2 of them where R1.

T1 Orion corner dodge no warp doubled & Hyd followed me with Ftrs out late in the turn. T2 Orion no warp doubled & cloaked hoping the HYD OL the hellbores. HYD did not take the bait. T3 Orion doubled both warp & out maneuvered the hyd to get a range 4 with only the Ftrs firing at the Orion. The Orion missed with both Hellbores and did 15 damage to the #5. Turn 4 Orion ran off with HYD on the tail. Turn 5 Hyd hit with 2 OL hellbore with 3/3 on hits so far for the game. The Orion got a range 1 shot and missed with both OL. At the end of turn 5 Orion is in big trouble – BAD shields but no internals from the HYD. Turn 6 Orion went Kamikaze with phasers & drones. The HYD only had 4 p1 2 gats & 2 fusions ready for the turn. Ftrs have been killed off at this point. Orion flew over the HYD and was able to land a type 4 drone in a down shield with 7p3 & 4 p1 on another shield. At this point the HYD gave in.

I saw it. Seth roll 10,11 at range 4. And then 12,12 at range 1. I yelled out "OMG" and spit out my drink. My wife came running in from the other room to see if I was having a stroke or something.

The odds of rolling two sixes on two dice in two consecutive rolls are 1:1295 or .077%.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Saturday, November 23, 2024 - 09:49 am: Edit

Interestingly, the odds of rolling 10 or higher on 2 dice four times in a row is also .077%.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Saturday, November 23, 2024 - 11:08 am: Edit

Final Answer:
The odds of rolling 10 or higher on two six-sided dice, then rolling 12 twice in a row, are about 0.0129%.

1.05 madman (LYR) over bakija (GRN)

We start T4 with LYR decelled against the map edge with 4 GRN shuttles around it. GRN about a dozen hexes away, facing the opposite direction. Both ships have about 40 internals, but the GRN lost 9 phasers on the initial exchange, now up to a P1 and a repaired P3, but has 3 plasma tubes still.

T4: LYR moves 0 (decel period till impulse 14), TAC, speed up to 7 when legal on i14. GRN moves 11 all turn. LYR tractors the two GRN shuttles that could otherwise shoot through a down shield on impulse 1, preventing that, and then eventually kills all the GRN shuttles with phasers and death dragging. GRN just moves off all turn to reload. 2 LYR shuttles on the map turn back towards the mothership and close in. We end the turn at about 22 hexes. GRN gets a couple boxes back on the #3 shield and fixes a plas F tube.

T5: LYR 6/16, allowing it to land the two shuttles. GRN moves 8/18, but miscounted the turn, and ended up letting the LYR eventually get R15 from the 2 box shield due to bad turning. LYR moves forward, GRN tries to turn, but again, did bad counting. LYR gets to R15 on a 2 box shield, fires 2 standard disruptors, hits with both, does 2 internals after 2 reinforcement. Hits 2 more power on the GRN. Ships close a little more, end at about R8. GRN repairs a tractor and a P3 (all repairs). LYR has fixed a P1 and a P3, along with a 3rd disruptor a while ago.

T6: GRN moves 17/12, has 2 armed S torps, 1 armed F torp, a P1 and 2P3. LYR moves 16/24. GRN attempts to get to at least R5. Launches a pseudo, hoping to see the LYR stop. Instead it turns off and speeds up. Plasma eventually impacts the #4 for what would have been about 15 damage if it was real, but it was not. Due to LYR speeding up, GRN never gets inside R5. GRN chases a while, ends the turn at R7, takes 6 damage to the #1.

GRN throws in the towel here. I got a lot of plasma, but no phasers, only 2 batteries compared to the Lyran's 5 (making tractor virtually impossible, especially as I got 3 or 4 fewer power as well).

I got DACed to death on the first exchange, and even though I did about the same number of internals, I lost all my phasers, and the Lyran didn't, which was bad--Lyran had a few more small volleys, but still. Losing 3 phasers in a volley of 4 internals was bananas.

That is two losses in a row to a Lyran. Time to retire.

MadJack v Hardcore

Jack is a little better and we continued our duel as announced.
We began in the upper left part of the map, I was going A and him going in direction D. I was close to a hex spine with my one box #2 facing his #2 and a ready FA-R disruptor at range six. I would be moving max speed 14 the first six impulses, due to my previous slow down to four to weasel his scatter pack, and jack would have an opportunity to fire an OL. If he moved faster than me he could potentially HET north and fire more ols at my weak shield. If he did fire at my shield imp 01 I would be forced to HET in dir D to avoid that threat.
As it happened Jack did neither but ran away at speed 25. The Torp hit for 6 after some defensive phaser fire. I turned around and gave chase at sp 21, all the way to the opposite side of the map. I eventually launched the real S from launcher B when when he turned back in and jack sent four medium drones towards me. Next turn Jack ran all the way to the map edge to weaken the torp and I followed him more slowly arming an EPT. I was a little careless and jack got an opportunity to turn F and fire at my weak #2 shield with phasers, rolling 1,1,2 for 10pts of damage. After reinforcement I took 6 ints and lost hull and two warp. Jack kept away, maybe fearing phasers and bolts on weak rear shields. He soon turned to A and then to F. Imp 32 I launched the EPT from launcher A and fired three ph-1s at his #4 doing four damage. Our positions at end of turn: Jack in 3903F and I in 3509A. Jack has 12 drones left I think, three are fast and two heavies, but at the moment no drones on the board.
We will continue today at 2pm est.
