Peter, I’ve had troubles like this too, especially when I swtitch between home and on the road. I’ve got a big monitor at home with a larger display area than my laptop’s panel, or worse with a second display connected.

What has worked for me was to delete the “userinfo.properties” file from the SFU_Online_Client directory.

This file is actually editable, but with all of the ways to mess it up, it’s probably better to just trash it and let the system rebuild it.

Any other potential ideas? I don't wanna delete all my saved settings if I can avoid it.

If you have Notepad++ or similar good text editor copy/rename the "userinfo.properties" file and then make a copy and start looking it over.

Mine is 450 some odd lines, one item per line, and some of the settings are rather esoteric. I get the impression that a fresh install will have far less in here, as this looks like a 'record it now, worry about it later' flat-file storage area.

Paul would be the one to ask, but I was able to sus out most of the headings...

Your having issues with the Game Control window, right? Closest thing I saw was a "ConfigGameControlDlg=" the data point for me is four numbers separated by commas.

The issue is my main window (i.e. map, and top of screen bar with SSDs and EAFs and Map and Weapon Status, etc. are up and out of the main window, and I can't get the window back in to the main window. Which is not game ending, but *super* annoying.

Ooh! Here is another thing--last night, was playing my SS game vs madman (Dana), and I saved the game early and often, hitting the "save" button every, like, 10-15 minutes, including specifically at the end of Turn 3 when we paused the game till the next game session. This morning I opened my save file to look at the game, and it turns out that it stopped successfully saving at the end of Turn 1 (i.e. my save file shows the game on impulse 32 of Turn 1, instead of impulse 32 of Turn 3, which is what the last thing I saved was).

I seem to remember that the client always said "game save successful" after I hit save all the time previously. And I remember not seeing that message numerous times, but thinking "maybe the updated client stopped saying that? after the first save?", but apparently, all those times I hit save after the save at the end of Turn 1 (which was not the first time I saved the game; I always make a save file as soon as, like, I finish my T1 allocation), the game did not save. But I did certainly hit save. A lot.

Ideas?

Did check other directories? Did you check the save date/time on the file to make sure that it was updated.

Paul,

I sent you an email about my map/window situation.

The save file was simply a save file that happened at +/- 6:30 pm, and I saved numerous times between 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm when we ended. Those files do not exist, and the one save file I do have is the one from +/-6:30 pm (which I have since updated to the actual game situation, as Dana sent me his save file).

Ok, so I got a very helpful email from Paul, explaining how to find my SFU Client Info file (which is very effectively hidden on a Mac...), and deleted my userinfo.properties file.

Except that it didn't help. My main game window continues to be off the main window. Maybe if I vaporize the whole folder and reinstall everything? Ideas?

Ok, so I'm still int he same boat with my SFBOL client situation.

My main game window is slightly off the left and top of the SFBOL game window. Which means (as it turns out) I can't see the leftmost column of the movement chart, so I make mistakes as to what impulse it actually is all the time. And if anyone launches shuttles (or fighters), it pushes the "MAP" button off my control bar, and I can't get back to the map view of the game.

This is both really irritating, and very problematic for actual game play.

I did all the things involving deleting my userinfo.proerties file. It did not fix the issue. I deleted and redownloaded the client. It did not fix the issue. This never happend before in a decade+ of playing SFBOL, and is clearly the result of something in the new client.

Does anyone have ideas to fix this?

I just tried sending a Feedback report, and every time I try to send a feedback report, I get an "Error Sending Feedback" message, the spits out the same list of SSL exceptions seen 3 messages above.

Ok, so based on some new info from Paul, I think I fixed everything (it turns out that there were numerous userinfo.properites files on my machine, from, presumably, numerous versions of the SFBOL client. I just had to find the correct one to delete).

I think everything is good now?

Both Carl and I had trouble saving games. Two days ago he could not do it. Today I could not do it. I sent a feedback file to help.

One possibility is that yesteday I was playing the game on a windows 10 laptop and could save it. I sent the file to a windows 11 laptop and could open and play but then not save.

Fortunately today, Carl was able to save the game. Not sure what is happening but this is a pretty urgent issue.

Ok, in playing this 500 BPV game for, like, 17 hours so far, here are numerous bugs/issues we have run into:

1) The big one is that the C7 tractored a BDS. It blew up the BDS. The BDS was removed from the map. The C7 released the tractor from the BDS after it was removed from the map. The interface refuses to accept that the C7 no longer has the BDS in tractor, so every time the C7 changes speed, it shows up as 50% slower than it should. It can be manually fixed, but it is a significant hassle. I considered putting the dead BDS back on the map to try and release the tractor that way, but the BDS has vanished from the system (i.e. it is not in Off Map or Discarded). This has persisted over two separate sessions.

2) The interface continues to occasionally (?) arbitrarily reload drone racks between sessions; i.e. the Klingon C7 launched 4 drones on T10. We save the game. We reload the game. At the start of T11 in the new session, the C7 miraculously has those 4 drones back in the racks again, and we need to remember what drones were launched (and also notice that the racks have been arbitrarily reloaded) and then manually remove them. I have experienced this as well in tournament games; it has been a bug for a while now.

3) GRN CCH launches an MRS. MRS is on the board for a while. GRN CCH lands MRS. I manually replace the MRS in the Shuttle Expendables window. Later on, I go to relaunch the landed MRS. The MRS (which is clearly indicated as being in the bay in the Shuttle Expendables window) does not show up in the IA Launch system, so I can't launch it. I go to use the manual Add Counter window. It lets me select and launch an MRS, but not also without selecting what unit it is coming from (the CCH) and what shuttle of the CCH is being launched (and still, the MRS does not show up). I randomly pick a shuttle that does show up, just to see what happens. The interface places an MRS shuttle on the map, but also removes the random shuttle from the CCH Expendables list. So now the CCH is missing *two* shuttles that it should have access to. This seems to be a bug. It is not impossible that there is a specific way to land shuttles back in the bay that I just don't know about, however.

1. For the C7, right-click on it and select "Group/Remove From Group" and delete the "TractorLink....." group. That will fix the problem.

2. I will need to look at that. It is possible it is caused by an issue with the drone racks not being sync'd to the opponents session and the play answering "Yes" to the question. "Are you sure you want to override to the pieces of your opponent?", if you selected to load the pieces for both sides.

3. I will look into this. BTW, to avoid this in the future, right-click on the shuttle that is going to the landed and select "Land" and select the ship where the shuttle is to land. There is an assumption that any unit removed from play is destroyed.

The shuttle issue was solved with the "land" function (which in, like, 20+ years of SFBOL, this was the first time I ever knew that was a thing that existed; to be fair, I'm on a Mac, and "right click" is not a thing that one does a lot on a Mac. I mean, you *can*, but the Mac interface generally uses things other than "right click" to do things, so as such, I regularly get into trouble 'cause it doesn't occur to me to "right click" on things).

The tractor issue persists, however. We used the "group/remove from group" function for the C7, and all the groups were eradicated, but it still thinks it is tractored to a BD, and every time it changes speed, it is 50% slower than it should be, and we need to manually fix it.

Peter,
Just before you remove a piece that is tractored, simply release the tractor.
This includes landing a tractored shuttle, destroyed drone etc.

In short, never remove before un-tractoring !

We have come across this before and the release before remove works great.

Also, if you forget to un-tractor a drone/unit befoe removing it, simply put the piece back on the board and then release the tractor.
That works fine also.
