Steve - this tournament SS18 is over. We could run a Crown tournament; we are ready for one. We are also very ready for the next Sapphire Star tournament to start accepting signups. There is no reason we could not do both of these at the same time.

1- Change your website order from S18 to S19 so the players can pay the enter fee
2- Paul makes a new message/discussion room for S19
3- Email blast goes out for S19
4- When 16 players are reached a tree is made & posted

I am thinking we might want to have a rule that if you don't use an eligible-ticket in XYZ months, it lapses and cannot be claimed later. Bakija is eligible (4) but hasn't used it in 59 months. (Can that be right? Peter? why oh why?) His eligibility for 15 seems to be only 16 or 17 months old.

Steve - we thought we needed to find 4 unique winners before we could have a Crown. We didn't realize every win buys a Crown seat and thought extra wins didn't count. We would have played 10 in a row looking for 4 unique winners before having a Crown the way it has worked before. MetalDog definiely disappeared for a while when he was eligible for a seat. Otherwise, everyone else played whenever they thought they could.

As far as I can tell (if that is what we are looking at), Sapphire Crown #3 is:

SS 12: CadetStimpy (GRN)
SS 13: Kingzilla (RKR)
SS 14: Spartan (ISC)
SS 15: Bakija (GRN)

The only reason this never happened was simply that no one ever organized and ran it.

Sapphire Star 4 Bakija Gorn won and since he already won SS1 he had a ticket that made him eligible for Crown 2 but he did not play for some reason. Let's assume he uses this ticket for Crown 3.

Sapphire Star 5 Madjack Klingon won and had a ticket that would have given him a seat in Crown 2 but for some reason he did not play. Let's assume he uses this ticket for Crown 3.

Sapphire Star 6 Droid Aux won and used his ricket in CROWN 1

Sapphire Star 7 MadJack WBS won and could in theory use his ticket for Crown 4.

So up till this point, there wasn't, as far as I can tell a "ticket" idea for the Crown final match; the first couple times we had a crown, we just waited till we had 4 individual winners to play in a Crown final match.

So I won SS1. Jack won SS2, Bill won SS3, I won SS4. We had gone through 4 tournaments, but only had 3 winners, so we kept going. Jack won SS5, so we still had only 3 winners for a crown. Droid won SS6, so then we had 4 distinct winners for the Crown final match, held the Crown Final match (I won, IIRC?). We then erased the board and started over.

Up till right now, there was never an idea (that I was aware of) that one could save a "ticket" to a Crown--I won SS1 and SS4, I played in Crown 1, and that was that; my win for SS4 was erased from the record at that point and no longer relevant.

I mean, if we want to do that, we can, but I don't think anyone was, up till now, thinking that if they had a win from an older SS that didn't get them into a Crown Final ('cause they won twice before the Crown happened), they would then get into a later Crown. We were just playing such that when we had 4 distinct winners (even if some of them had won more than once), we'd have a Crown final match, and then erase the stat board and start over.

That's how the first two Crown matches went. Crown 1 was 4 distinct players (of which two of them had won twice in the first 6 games); the second Crown was 4 distinct players (I didn't play Crown 2 as no one suggested I should; I don't remember why Jack didn't play Crown 2, as he won SS7; Metaldog should have played Crown 2 but had gone MIA for unknown reasons at the time and never responded to the invite, and was replaced by Stimpy who won SS12 and got them to 4 distinct players).

Following this logic (which is the logic we seemed to be following the first two Crown matches), it should be the winners of SS13, SS14, SS15, and SS16 (who are Kingzilla, Spartan, Bakija, and Madjack), and that would be that.

Again, if you want to use a "ticket" idea, we can certainly do that, but I don't think anyone thought that was a thing up till right about now; we were just playing "Get 4 distinct players from SS wins, have a Crown final, and if you had extra wins, or couldn't play that Crown for whatever reason, that was that, and then next Crown was just the next 4 distinct winners".

That was always the way I thought it worked and I am the guy who invented the whole sapphire system, including the name. That’s the answer I have given many times including last month on this BBS. I cannot imagine why anyone would think your way made sense. Your way would inspire people to deliberately not win so they could get a crown started. When you won a second time I was asked if you got two seats in the crown and I said then (five years ago) that you needed four unique winners but you got to use the second win in the second crown. Later someone asked me if someone with a crown seat could pass because he was scheduled for a vacation and said that he could but the ticket would be good in the next crown.

I think the way I designed it is way better, so I would say, play the game the way the designer designed it. I am not perfect but this time everyone would agree that my way would be more fair. You win, you get the benefit of winning.

I'm not saying my way is optimal or anything. It's just what seemed to be what was going on the first two times we had a Crown event, and we haven't had once since those two happened.

I mean, you are in charge here. I'm just articulating what seemed to be what was happening those two events (IIRC, Jack voluntarily stepped out of Crown 2; Justin/Metaldog was MIA; as such, we ended up with the winners through SS12, and that's where it left off).

I did skip a Sapphire once. Maybe 2. That is true.
