It will take us a year to do this, so there would be a place for you in the future.

Ah, yeah R9 was the first Kyrocea printed module wasn’t it.

SVC,
I am available to help starting with simpler tasks at first.
I would like to thank you and the ADB family in Amarillo for all the care and help you have provided SPP. It is a testament to Y'all.
Thank you all as well for keeping the ADB products lines updated and available. That is a considerable effort by many.

Joe, I took a quick look through the updated J and a few R modules, nothing has MRSs included, and only the Fed CVA and SCS show SWACs. Some ships do have other speciality shuttles included (MSS on mine warfare ships, HTS on priority transports), but these were being shown before this update - e.g. I’m looking at the Fed FLG SSD from the 1995 edition of R6 and the shuttle tracks include the MSS, GAS, and HTS.

If Module D3 is up for updates, I note it was published in 1993 and only covers ship published up through Module R5. Would expanding it to cover units published since be an option?

Alex, thanks.

Joe, thanks, but I need to start with people who have proven their abilities over the years. Updating the rulebooks isn't an issue; somebody off the street could do a lot of it with five minutes teaching. The SSD books are the hard part and I need people who have the software and have learned how to do it and proven they can. Mike West has been sending in SSDs that Petrick accepts for years; Jessica showed us some samples. There are a couple of others. There are things you can do such as digging through published Caplogs looking for actionable errata.

I believe D3 Boom and Saucers wasn't a great seller so it was put up on Warehouse 23 without updates. I think most people just used the whole ship SSD rather than using just a boom or saucer SSD if their ship was so damaged it separated. If D3 was updated I don't think more booms and saucers from after R5 would be added. If more booms and saucer SSDs were created my guess was they would be in a future D3A or D4 book.

Please don't guess what we will do.

SVC
Understand. What software is used for SSDs?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, June 27, 2025 - 05:13 pm: Edit |
DeskPaint for Mac. Using ADB proprietary fonts.
By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Saturday, June 28, 2025 - 01:08 pm: Edit |
SVC,
I keep a list of errata and questions for each module. SPP would normally ask for a listing for each module before starting. I would also help SPP with rule order formatting and various double checks. I would like to be on the team for the rule updates.
By Joe Carlson (Jrc) on Saturday, June 28, 2025 - 02:17 pm: Edit |
SVC,
This just to confirm the update project is only to rule books and SSD books. As I understand counters are not part of this project. So carriers in Captain's Logs, like the Federation DVA and Klingon C10V, which haven't been published will not be part of J2.

Ken, we need to be in email contract.
Joe, correct.

Does the Cadet Handbook need updated? "5620 CADET TRAINING HANDBOOK: Printed in 1996. No revisions to date, although this product is itself a revision of the earlier Cadet Training Manual and the even earlier Introduction to SFB. Reprinted in 2022 as a perfect-bound book. It is available as an ebook (with a new cover) on W23, DTRPG, and WV."

There are suggestions in a lot of the individual topics about adding new (either whole cloth or reprinting from P modules/Captain’s Log) units to the module in question. Which brings up the question of: how much is this actually on the table?
I certainly appreciate the idea of “Hey as long as these modules are being worked on, here’s a chance to help flesh them out a bit more cause who knows when we might have the opportunity to add these things later on” - it’s definitely been a big part of my thinking. But that’s also needing to be balanced against “These need to be updated so we have more modern versions, including have the rest of the game line available in PDF” and “At what point do we have enough new ideas we’re just better off rolling new ideas into new modules”.
A prime example is in the Module K updates, where the idea of presenting other empires the units they need to pursue the Federation’s Third Way: F-111 equivalent improved heavy fighters, carriers for same, possible access to SWACs. This could be as light as “Here’s an expanded Master Fighter Chart and some directions on converting any PF tender SSD to its carrier version” or it could be the backbone for a Module K2 with a whole suit of formal SSDs.

Alex,
I have not been clear enough. On this so, let me be clear on my intentions.
For whole new things, like F-111s for other empires, I would view that as completely new material that should go somewhere else. I would love to see a K2, and that would be a great place for it. Along with things like the four Federation PF carriers that was done for Hailing Frequencies.
However, if some things are not really new, but clarifications, I would like to see them included. Examples for this are the intermediate Gorn and Fed national ships from Y1. If there is any way to add those, it would be a big help. (And in that case, something that helps a lot is that Y1 has a very small SSD book, giving the theoretical potential for some extra SSDs.)

I might wonder if it would be better to place would-be "Third Way" Alpha units into a potential Module J3, rather than a Module K2.
With a partial exception for "third way" units given to the "lost empire" Paravians and Carnivons: those could go into a future Module C6R instead.
On a side note: the Gorns already have the G-30 and G-32, as well as a GB-111. So, even if either J3 or K2 were to grant them a "G-111", there might be the question of whether or not some sort of A-20-alike might be provided for other "Third Way" Alpha empires - or if their current size-2 "torpedo" fighters are about as close to an A-20 as they are likely to get as it stands.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 02, 2025 - 01:27 pm: Edit |
Generally speaking, we don't add ships to revised modules. We did add one or two here or there to MSSBs and put them in Captain's Log.

So we are looking at ideas for future products
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 02, 2025 - 04:57 pm: Edit |
Not in this topic.
By Mike West (Mjwest) on Thursday, July 03, 2025 - 02:13 am: Edit |
Gary, as a side note, there need to be no A-20 analogs for other empires because these already exist. The A-20 is just the Federation heavy assault fighter. Everyone else already has their heavy assault fighter. The only special case is the F-111.

Just a note about R6. The Sentinel Survey Cruiser R9.68 is labeled as the Picket in the master ship book and in G3. The Sentinel is a carrier in another product.

Just curious since S1 is already on Wargamvault, and you think there is no real point in updating it or S2. Could we get S2 (as is) available in electronic format.

Jean, can that happen?
