There was an article on the history of the destroyer class in Captains Log does anyone remember which one.

Which empire are you looking for?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - 10:14 pm: Edit

There is a PDF index of captain's log on the master index of the website.

I just read in the UPDATING SFB (WITHOUT SPP) thread that SPP is in a nursing home. My prayers go out to him and his circle of family and friends. Best wishes for improvement for him and peace for all in his circle.

Looking for 'second line' Gunboat rules and stats; I believe the term is Skift but not totally sure. I'm mostly sure the ships I'm trying to find are about Gunboat sized but not built for front line combat only.
Also, is there any list of what ship SSD is in what product For SFB? IF its on the web site, I couldn't find it.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, July 14, 2025 - 03:50 am: Edit

Such a list is built into the master ship chart in G3.

There might be a few different things to unpack here.

There are different types of Skiff to be found across the Alpha Octant; these are approximately equivalent in size to a fast patrol ship, though they cannot be carried on PF mech-links.

For those Alpha empires which later adopt PFs, there are "support flotillas", comprised of various mission variants (cargo, recovery, mine warfare, etc.) that are often used by various military forces when front-line "combat" flotillas are on active duty assignment.

Further, there are a number of PF variants on the "civilian" market: this includes workboats, as well as certain types of survey PF. There are notes to specify how certain variants in "civilian" use are handled, relative to those in "military" service: this usually include down-grading the types of phasers which "civilian" PF varieties can operate, and/or foregoing the use of warp booster packs.

In all of this, the historical Federation found itself in an interesting position, due to its refusal to build their own PFs (outside of the Orion Enclave, that is). On the "civilian" market, a large number of workboats, "civilian-ized" survey PFs, and other such units were imported from a variety of different sources: mostly from the Orions, but also from the Kzintis, Gorns, and others.

That said, the historical Feds don't get a PF mech-link refit, nor the option to install PF mech-links on their heavy war destroyers, So Star Fleet cannot "cheat" by operating such "imported" PF variants on their own ships - much as the captains of the Second Fleet might wish to be able to deploy survey PFs from their Galactic Survey Cruisers...

I would certainly agree with the recommendation to take a closer look at Module G3 - as well as its Module G3A supplemental file!

Although there are a handful of Alpha Octant SFB modules, such as Module R12 and Module C6, that were printed after G3 and G3A were published.

Further, I would suggest scrolling down this page, not least as the set of downloads to be found there includes data for a variety of non-Alpha settings: Omega, the LMC, and so on and so forth.

Okay, then Skifts ARE what I was looking for. What product are they in for SFB?

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 - 04:06 pm: Edit

Skiff are primarily in Module R8, although one form of them is in R11 (and another in Captain's Log 52).

Is anyone having a problem on the board, when I click on last day or last week nothing happens. I have to click on topics and go to each area separately.

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Thursday, July 17, 2025 - 08:39 am: Edit

Yes Eddie, I also have had a problem accessing the bbs.

Thought it might have been on my end, but clearing cache, restarting the app, and finally restarting the router, Device and checking the phone lines all came up negative issues.

Nice to know I wasn’t the only one that had a problem.

By Eddie E Crutchfield (Librarian101) on Thursday, July 17, 2025 - 09:57 am: Edit

I finally accessed it, but it was taking several minutes, it seems back to normal now.

Can anyone tell me if any Borak counters have been published in any product, and if so what the colors are please?

By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Sunday, July 20, 2025 - 10:45 am: Edit

I'm not sure its official, but ship yellow, with the background being Forest Green

By Shawn Gordon (Avrolancaster) on Monday, July 21, 2025 - 08:35 am: Edit

There are no published Borak counters.

Is there a published list and the SSDs for the Sparrowhawk modules in any product. Also did the original Sparrowhawk light Command cruiser have 2 P1 in each module?

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Monday, July 21, 2025 - 10:02 pm: Edit

Sparrowhawk A, C, D, F and H modules are in Advanced Missions.
Sparrowhawk B modules are in Module J1.
Sparrowhawk G modules are in Module M1.
Sparrowhawk R, L, M, and J modules are in Module R4.
Sparrowhawk T modules are in Module R9.
Sparrowhawk E modules are in Module K1.
Sparrowhawk U modules are in Module J2.
Sparrowhawk V, P, Q, and X modules are in Star Fleet Times #9.

By Eddie E Crutchfield (Librarian101) on Monday, July 21, 2025 - 11:12 pm: Edit

Jessica, there was a K module that was used on the heavy hawks with 2 P1, it was alluded to being able to be used on the Sparrowhawks. Have you seen it anywhere, I thought it was on a version in the earlier addition maybe, thanks.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, July 21, 2025 - 11:56 pm: Edit

Somebody send me an email request and I'll do some Borak counters.

By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - 01:27 am: Edit

Eddie,

From(R4.N1) SPARROWHAWK MODULAR CRUISER in the Romulan Master Starship Book:

Quote:

SparrowHawk modular cruisers cannot mount K-modules.

I think perhaps Sparrowhawks mounting K-modules may have been an older version of the rules, but no longer valid.....

I also note that even the Sparrowhawk-AX does not have two phaser-1s in each module, so I'm almost certain no "standard tech" version does.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - 09:09 am: Edit

Eddie, as Trevor noted, the K-module cannot be used on the Sparrowhawk.

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - 09:57 am: Edit

Nor can the N module be used on a Sparrowhawk. (In fact, the N module can't be used by most 'Hawks.)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - 04:42 pm: Edit

I whipped up some Borak Counters. I could find no data on the color of their counters or their ships, so I picked something (yellow on blue) and went with it. I can change it if there is something published somewhere saying otherwise.

@SVC: Thanks Steve for the Borak Counters. I think that makes the colors Yellow on Blue official!
Is that "Federation" blue?
@Ken, where did you get yellow on green from?
