By Justin Royter (Metaldog) on Monday, May 26, 2025 - 06:22 pm: Edit

T1 Feds come out moving fast from bottom right corner, BCF sdp 24 NCL/ DDL spd 27, FFS follows at 21, Selts come out spd 20 as one big ship 2x CA 2x DD. Feds do some transporter work, moving drns from the BCF to the NCL, turn ends R ~ 50 both forces pushing the center of the map, fed facing F, selt C.

T2 Feds slip in and out with bcf moving 17 ncl/ ddl moving 14 scout behind 3 hexes at 15, Selts slow to 16 and continue to close but start slipping out to avoid #1 shield, DD's start EM, feds have heavy eccm and ecm drns out, launch 1 scatter pack from the FFS. Selts are heavy ECM 6/0 CA's, 8/-4 both DD. BCF launches MRS, MRS + FFS loan all units eccm, enough to all have 10 ECCM. Feds fire late late ~ imp 27 10x prox 16 xp1 at DD1 score 20 dmg, 7 photons miss, phasers do 8 points. Selt DD #1 reduced to 1 point after reinforcement. Feds turn out, lauch a few drns, Selts continue to close, range is ~ 25 map center, fed facing E, Selts facing C.

Any updates on any games here?

By Eddie E Crutchfield (Librarian101) on Saturday, June 21, 2025 - 03:42 am: Edit

Probably not drones, Combat Cargo was one of the rules disallowed.

Uh, wha?

By Eddie E Crutchfield (Librarian101) on Saturday, June 21, 2025 - 01:27 pm: Edit

Peter I was looking at the rules that were set up for the 500 point game Geof is running and cargo transfer was one that he did not include for use unless I looked at the wrong edition?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, June 21, 2025 - 06:50 pm: Edit

Ok; I guess you were not responding to my ask for any game updates?

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, July 02, 2025 - 05:01 am: Edit

Hey Team,

Just to give a quick update, MetalDog has had to drop out due to RL issues. Princeton has valiantly stepped in again to take the Feds into Turn 3 against Andromedan's Seltorians. The Winner will take on Madman's Klingons. We're off schedule, but I hope that August in the timeframe for the final.

Regards,
Geof

Paul and I wrapped up T3 last night.
Selts move 16 with lots of hiding ew, 6 used that is.
Feds move 12 with lots of seeking ew, 6 that is.

Selts had to deal with a lot of drones that Justin launched on T2.
I launched a couple of drone drogues and launched 2 every other imp to spread them out and avoid getting TB away.

The 1st wave of drones were taken care of nicely but 2 did hit albeit 1 was at half damage due to a proxcy roll of +1 and I rolled a 6, ah well.
Both were type IF.
Love those sp 32 drones.

A Fed SP popped on 3.26 giving Paul's Selts 5 more drones to deal with as the drogue drones were about to engage the Selts.
These drones will have ot be dealt with on T4 as well as the SP drones.
In all about 18 or so.

Fleets started at R25 ish and ended up at finishing at R8 as both sides moved slowly towards each other, #1 to #1.
Only phaser action was the Selts shooting down drones, Feds held their fire.

T4 to continue next week sometime.

Cheers
Frank

>>How close to done is this tournament?>>

I mean, in one sense, close-ish? There is currently one game that is in process, and then once that game is done, there is a final round (Dana vs whoever wins the current game).

Like, we started in February with 4 preliminary R1 games. My game took about 5 weeks (mid February through late March) and about 26 hours of consistent play to get through a 13 turn game. Within a few weeks of that, I *think* we got through the first 4 preliminary games.

There were then 2x R2 games that needed to play out. Dana fought Ed, starting about mid April, and completed their game (Ed resigned on T5) mid May. Meanwhile, Justin had client issues and couldn't start his game with Paul F for a while. They started playing late May, got through a couple turns, the game froze, and then Justin announced he was dropping out of the tournament at the start of July. Frank volunteered to take over for Justin, and Frank and Paul had at least one session so far, but the game is only about to start T4, so no idea how long it'll take to finish.

I mean, maybe it'll be done this year?

The idea of a fleet game online is a new animal. As a new animal it like anything else, it will suffer growing pains, what works what does not. For me a great deal of time to learn the SFBOL system from scratch. Since there is no real handbook or video it was a lot of do this and opps. Also there are time constraints on each individual jobs, illness that cant always be accounted for I have mentioned to Geof the idea of a league format. The advantage would be that if some players are taking more time perhaps those that have finished a previous league game could play a new league game vs a player that they would be playing sometime in the future. That way every one could keep playing and keep interest up. At the start of the league everyone would receive a schedule of whom they would be playing in the future. Then at the end of the season(however long that might be) the league winner would be declared. Might use a hockey system of wins loses and ties to award points. Just an idea to keep the players involved instead of sitting several weeks to play again. Again as a new idea we will have issues to resolve.

You guys having fun is all that matters. I was only asking to understand where you guys are so I can decide if I would have fun too.

Its always fun especially when your on the receiving end of a salvo that blows your ship half way to kingdom come.

Eddie,
I can help you out with learning the SFBOL interface if you wish ?

Let me know if you are interested ?
I live in the EST zone and my schedule is quite flexible being retired and all !

I know of someone else who just joined and is learning the interface, we had a session last week.
If you are game, I will invite him as well.

Cheers
Frank

Paul and I had a mixup in communications.
I thought he wanted to play Thursday night but he wanted to play Wednesday night.

Last night he showed up but I did not as I had company last night.

The fault is mine as when I double checked the email, it was indeed a Wednesday night meeting he wanted, I totally messed that up, my apologies to him.

I am available tonight and Friday to continue.
Waiting on Paul to see if he is available as well.

Sean, sending you an email .

Cheers

Folks,
The Fed vs Selt battle is over on 4.6.

Both fleets close towards each other.
At R6, Paul fires 4 SC and 8 ovld PC at the FFS netting 10 internals or so.

At R2, I fired a wad of photons and ph 1s at both CA's.
Of 10 photons, 8 hit [ ovld 16, ovld 14, ovld 12 and 5 stnd] combined with ph 1s scored 70 on 1 CA and 68 on the other, both on the #6.

Next imp sees 4 sabot torps hit for full strength, 1 on the #3 of a CA and the other on the #2.

Next imp sees the Fed fleet move onto a CA downed #2 and she took 30 more internals using ph 1s and ph 3s.

At this point, we called.

Feds still have non bearing phasers and a wad of drones to launch as well as 2 SP on the board.

Thanks to Paul for playing !

I think there is 1 more battle to do ?
Classic Klink vs Feds ?

Cheers
Frank
