Looking though the Fed NCC Number pdf found here: http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/Fed_NCC_Numbers.pdf

I saw NCL NCC-1558 was yet unnamed. I'd like to suggest naming it the USS Georgia. This name is not used for any other ship on this list. It also fits with some of the other names that comprise the NCL list.
A little history of some of the other ships to carry the name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Georgia

Reaver; CL21 (Muntiny on the Harrasser); Klingon F5C. (There is both a D5 and F5X named Reaver. I would guess the D5 was named for the F5C and the FX was named for the D5/F5C.) Ryan J Opel 28 Dec 08

Suggestion for Federation ship:
Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller
The "Marine's Marine".

Maybe there is still an available unnamed Commando CL or FF.

By Michael C. Grafton (Mike_Grafton) on Tuesday, March 03, 2009 - 05:39 pm: Edit

Suggested for a commando ship "Hans Von Luck." Wrote "Panzer Commander" and served in almost all of the most legendary battles:

Poland, France, Russia, Africa and Normandy.

I don't know if I'd want to assigned to the Starship Luck.

By Michael Bennett (Mike) on Tuesday, March 03, 2009 - 08:19 pm: Edit

That could be one, bad ship...

For a Fed. police flagship: Smedley D. Butler. Marine general, often decorated, but also police chief in Philadelphia.

Oop, never mind, he's got a CWD. Might still keep it for an earlier FLG, at least in my GPD campaign.

Suggested name for a Commando Ship:

Andrew Jackson Higgins, designer and builder of the Landing craft used in World War II.

Documentation: http://www.higginsmemorial.com
[may already be there under FFC Commando Frigates as 410 Higgens, if so it is mis-spelled]

Hans von Luck was about the luckiest guy in the entire german army.

Schooled by Rommel in the early 30 (Rommel commanded the advanced infantry school).
Served under Guderian in the late 30s basically inventing German doctorine.
In Poland commanded a recce unit
Under Rommel in France
7th Pz in Russia until transferred to the Afrika Corps (at Rommels personal request). Got out of Russia at exactly the right time IMHO.
Captured David Sterling of the LRDG (the SAS forerunner).

Etc.

Spent the entire war in company and field grade combat and lived. You really should read his book and then say you'd not be proud...

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 01:34 pm: Edit

So which name would correct? USS Von Luck, or the USS Luck, or USS Hans Von Luck?

As was mentioned earlier, I'm not sure I'd want to be assigned to the USS Luck... several bad connotations could be associated with the various kinds of luck that some ships have... Hard Luck, bad luck, good Luck etc.

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 02:21 pm: Edit

Well it would be the USS Hans Von Luck. But a lot of time the names in common use get shortened. Like the USS Otto Von Bismark. It's usually just called the Bismark.

By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 02:38 pm: Edit

Minor grammatical point, but Von Luck (or Von Bismarck) would be incorrect. The "v" should be lower case; "von Luck" rather than "Von Luck".

By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 04:08 pm: Edit

Thank you Alan, I wasn't aware that was the correct grammatical capitalization...I assumed that it was handled in the same manner that "Mr."(or "Mrs.", "Miss", or "Madame" etc...) is in such cases.

I was engaged to a "von und zum" and she was amazingly picky about the whole thing.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, March 06, 2009 - 09:53 am: Edit

I thought it was Bismarck.

1761 Otto von Bismarck

From the Starship Name Registry.

Dominator; CL26, pg?? (For the honor of the Flag), Klingon (Command ship for the Eastern Fleet so I'd guess C8 or C9), Ryan J Opel 17 Mar 09.
