Yeah, the problem with that, Neale, is that we never use the class name in SFB (but you need to use it in LFSS). We just use the code, DD, NCL, DW. You can, of course, extrapolate the class name from the ship name registry, and if you don't mind doing that, that would be the way to go since putting it on my list of things to do is likely to produce nothing useful.

Do you have a copy of G2? I can have one sent to you. G2 lists all of the variants for each hull type. I just emailed you the Fed part of G2. That at least tells you that the LTT is a variant of the NCL. In theory, the NCL section would have multiple pages of NCLs (data, art, drawings, shipnames) and then a page or part of a page for each of the various variants of the NCL (NCV, NVL, NVS, NEC, and a bunch of others).

Neale, I've already got class names for like 95% of Fed ships on my own personal registry. I'd be willing to help you out with that. The problem is due to my work schedule, my time to get online is sporadic at best. However, I do try to check my email at least once a week, so let me know if I can be of help.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 12:14 pm: Edit

To be used in LFS they need to come from the ADB registry, not from somebody's private registry.

By Chris Bonaiuto (Epyon) on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 12:15 pm: Edit

SVC, I extrapolated the names from the ADB registry based mostly on hull numbers. I just thought maybe I could save someone some time.

By Neale Davidson (Vance) on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 04:14 pm: Edit

I can look over it, Chris, but some of the difficulty is, as SVC said, that the class names may not actually match up with the earliest hull number of each time. I was doing a couple of pretty-confirmed classes already and discovered earlier hull numbers than what would be expected.

At this point, though, I've got THAT aspect organized. What I really need is a breakdown of hull-types based on ship types.

For instance: The SC, DDE, DDR, DDG are all based on the Saladin/Hermes hull.

That's the next step I need to get done.

Neale, I have that I'll try to post later or tomorrow morning.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 10:02 pm: Edit

Don't post the list (if that was your intent).

By Neale Davidson (Vance) on Thursday, April 24, 2008 - 08:42 am: Edit

Yeah, email that to me at vanguard@pixelsagas.com . I'll go over it, then hash out my data update with SVC when he has a chance. (In case there are errors, or he has other plans, etc.)

By Chris Bonaiuto (Epyon) on Saturday, April 26, 2008 - 11:35 am: Edit

Neale, I agree about the earliest hull number thing, but sometimes scenarios and/or R-sections will actually state the first ship that was built/converted. I generally use those. Send me an emial if I can be of help. Can't really do anything right now as I'm at work.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, April 26, 2008 - 01:34 pm: Edit

Neale, Email me your questions and I'll give you the answers.

By Neale Davidson (Vance) on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - 03:13 pm: Edit

Well, haven't gotten an email response yet. I'm still waiting on a 'physical look' of each ship type list... I'm hesistant to make many guesses, as I've already screwed up a couple of the ships that way. :)

Note, I'm not looking for the stats at this point, just the physical shape of the overall ship. (Or, to put another way which mini would represent it).

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - 11:46 pm: Edit

Neale: I was waiting for a reply to my last email to you. Email me again and I'll try to get you a reply before I leave town.

Don't forget the whole spam-filter kerflufllemajigathinger.

Any slow quiet progress on this?

By John Wyszynski (Starsabre) on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 - 09:52 pm: Edit

I've looking at all of the pictures that have been posted for the Mongoose produced 2500 miniatures. I am quite impressed. It looks like they could be used to produce an ever expanding Fighting Ships book. Each ship would be a page with four to six images from the modeling file. Add/expand the color text from the rulebook and maybe it doubles as the master starship book.

(Just thinking out loud.)

By Kenneth Choisez (Kchoisez) on Monday, November 07, 2011 - 09:57 pm: Edit

I also would like to second the idea of using the various pictures and/or blueprint drawings from the 2500 series of miniatures to produce the Fighting ships books.

You could start out small, with maybe 20 or so pages for each different empire (see what Catalyst Games has done with their XTRO series of battletech books).

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 09:27 am: Edit

Kenneth, the problem with the renderings is that the details disappear at certain angles. If you look at something straight on, it vanishes.

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 09:57 am: Edit

She did wireframe renderings for a couple of the ships that retained the details. Could use those.

By Mike Kenyon (Mikek) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 11:49 am: Edit

Jean, I'm not following what the issue is with the bias shots? If you're patterning it off of Jane's Fighting Ships, they typically have a labeled schematic, a silouette and often several photos, which are notably at the bias.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 12:02 pm: Edit

Xanderize them.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 12:56 pm: Edit

OK, I got an explanation by email. Let's hold off on pushing this until after CL#44 is out as it will get lost in the intense focus required for the next few weeks.

By Kenneth Choisez (Kchoisez) on Tuesday, November 08, 2011 - 08:26 pm: Edit

I understand that the various diagrams/pictures would not be of the highest quality, but I am sure that people would like to purchase the various books, so long as the quality of the diagrams are at least as good as the ones in the Star Fleet Technical Manual that the game is SFU is based on.

By Xander Fulton (Dderidex) on Wednesday, November 09, 2011 - 01:36 am: Edit

Hmmm. I may actually be able to copy that drawing style using the renders we have 3-views of.

Might give that a shot this weekend for a ship or two...it's an amusing idea. And I HAVE always wanted to have a few pages that could be inserted into the Franz Joseph manual in the mentioned-(in the contents)-but-never-seen-section T0:00:06:00
