A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book 1.2: Tholian Ship Roster Card Pack Is Available

The Tholians occupy a small territory on the edge of the galaxy, south of the United Federation of Planets and blocking most of the pathway between the Klingons and the Romulans. The Tholians are a crystalline life form that exists in high temperatures. Tholians consider carbon-based life to be on the same level that humans consider bacteria.

Tholians are, in fact, refugees from the M81 Galaxy who fled their homes after a slave uprising overthrew the Tholian Will, which had ruled M81 for centuries. The Tholians survive only because their tiny territory is defended (sometimes with the greatest of effort) by their tiny fleet, using webs as artificial terrain to block enemy invasions.

We are pleased to announce that the next of our play aids for ACTASF has been released. The Tholian Ship Roster Card Pack includes all of the Tholian ships in A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book 1.2. It also includes the armed cutter, Prime Trader transport, mobile base, and battle station, all of which have been specialized for you to use as a Tholian player. Since the web rules are preliminary in Book 1.2, we are making this ship roster card pack a "pay what you want" release.

The Tholian Ship Roster Card Pack is available from the following:

A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book 1.2: Civilian Ship Roster Card Pack Is Available

The ships presented here are intended to represent abstractions of dozens of different (but similar) designs in use by all fleets for a variety of functions. Form follows function, and as these ships (for the most part) are cargo haulers, they can functionally be divided into these types. Outwardly, the various "Class-One Small Freighters" may look very different, but their ship rosters would be nearly identical. After all, a cargo ship needs cargo, enough engines to move them at a steady economical speed, a big enough hull to contain the crew, perhaps a phaser or two for self-defense, and whatever tractor beams and transporters are needed to facilitate cargo handling.

All of these ships might be owned by a civilian crew or corporation, or by a government at any level. Also included in this pack are two generic military bases.

We are pleased to announce that the next of our play aids for ACTASF has been released. The Civilian Ship Roster Card Pack includes all of the civilian ships in A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book One, Revision Two. It also includes the generic forms of the mobile base and battle station.

The Civilian Ship Roster Card Pack is available from the following:

JagdPanther #13 Available from Multiple Sources

Amarillo Design Bureau has released another issue of this classic magazine.

Take a journey with us back to April 1976, when a small wargame club in Amarillo, Texas (led by Steve Cole) turned into a real company that produced an award-winning magazine filled with articles, variants, and reviews. The "Iron Age" of JagdPanther continued with color cardstock covers, one-piece multi-color maps, and die-cut counters.

The game in this issue was SIEGE OF LENINGRAD, a typical WW2 game with German division-sized counters (some of which could break down into three regiments) battering their way through fixed Russian defenses to grab the city of Leningrad. The history article focused on the failures of Germany's Army Group North to get moving and take the city when doing so would have been easy.

Rules variants included a fourth victory condition for Rand's SARATOGA 1777, a revised command and control system for PANZER ARMEE AFRIKA, optional rules for the SPI pocket game ARNHEM, random rules for generals in AMERICAN CIVIL WAR, alternate rules for the SPI game DIXIE (which set the Civil War in 1935), alternate rules for the four games of the SPI WEST QUAD game, and true wargame rules for the SPI game SORCERER.

Alternate history scenarios included a fascist France option for ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR II, a US-China alliance against Russia in MUKDEN, a World War II scenario for RISK, an alternate Russian order of battle for THIRD REICH, and a non-intervention scenario for SPANISH CIVIL WAR (originally published by JagdPanther but later bought by Battleline and then Avalon Hill). New scenarios were provided for KAMPFPANZER, the SPI game BULL RUN, a scenario for the game WORLD WAR 3 based on the novel 1984, and an alternate Tang Island scenario for the JagdPanther game MARINE.

This issue has been scanned from the best available copy.

Revision E of A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book 1.2 Has Been Released

We have uploaded a new version (Revision E) to DriveThru RPG and Wargame Vault. This new version clarified some of the rules, fixed some typos, and fixed a few more places where data changed one place but not another.

Major changes:
1. Cloaking Device: The rules about what Special Actions can be used while cloaked were tweaked a bit.
2. Plasma Bolts: The rules for plasma bolts were re-written but nothing was changed. They were reworded to provide bolts with their own, complete stat lines rather than instructing you to modify the stat line for plasma torpedoes.
3. Take Evasive Action!: This special action was modified to provide a -1 To Hit penalty for evasive ships firing at other ships.
4. The Klingon C8 is now the C8K, a more accurate name.

If you have downloaded the file previously, it should be in your library.

If you want to download the latest revision as a "pay what you want" PDF, then you can get it from

Wargame Vault: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/139883/A-Call-to-Arms-Star-Fleet-Book-One-Revision-Two

DriveThru RPG: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/139883/A-Call-to-Arms-Star-Fleet-Book-One-Revision-Two

The "pay what you want" offer for A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Book 1.2 will end late on April 30, 2015. This is the free copy that Mongoose promised to replace the hardback version people bought originally. Please replace yours before that date.

We hope you enjoy this game!
