Nexus #15 Is Released in PDF
For years, through hijackings and kidnappings and savage massacres, the West has been helpless before this bloody foe: the international terrorist. Until now. Now America has Delta Force.
It is 1986 and Nexus #15 has just been released. This issue focused on the Star Fleet Universe, Starfire, and Delta Force. Battlewagon, Duel for Kharkov, Counterstroke in France, East Wind Rain, and 4th Reich also have materials included.
Starfire has a Q&A section for players in the New Empires setting as well as an article on creating a hit-and-run group in that setting. Adding complexity to the New Empires setting are optional rules for planets and moons.
In the historical section, East Wind Rain has an article about its design concepts. Duel for Kharkov gains a new scenario based on the Soviet summer offensive in 1942. An article on Counterstroke in France presents variants for people playing that game. Battlewagon gains another scenario, this one for the Battle of Komandorski Islands in March, 1943. In a category by itself, 4th Reich adds rules so three people can play.
Delta Force is the new game being introduced by Task Force Games. It gains new weapons and equipment. It also gets a new scenario set in Canada.
The Star Fleet Universe section starts with information about the company. It includes a significant article on painting Tholian ships along with Tholian fleet emblems. The shipyard report focuses on Tholian ships. Federation & Empire is introduced. The two-page Academy article is based on Tholian webs and web casters. A page of Term Papers also is included. Rules for energy balance due to damage were introduced. Finally, there was also the inevitable (at the time) collection of addenda.
This PDF is provided by Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc. with the kind permission of Allen D. Eldridge. It includes ads and offers from 1986; these are no longer valid.

Captain's Log #47 Now Available from Multiple Sources
Lester, on the other hand, had been a seat-of-the-pants kind of captain. The job was done, the victims were rescued, the pirates were captured, the cargo was delivered on time, the citizens were served, and if that required bending or ignoring a few rules and protocols and regulations, well there were always those "exigencies of the situation" to protect Lester from retaliation.
Released in 2013, this Captain's Log issue supports Star Fleet Battles, Federation Commander, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, and Federation & Empire. "Into the Eagles Nest" by Clint Woodall focuses on a Federation Police Cutter assigned to stop a transport that is defecting to the Romulans with an important prototype.
The rest of the History section includes a story about Targis Ketrick and his attempt to return to the Klingon Empire, an article about the Maesron Alliance in the Omega Octant, and deck plans for the third deck of a Federation Police Cutter.
As is usual, Communications is designed to inform readers about the companys activities. After Action reports are on Federation Commander: Reinforcements Attack, Starmada Nova books, Star Fleet Marines: Last Stand, and Captain's Log #47. The Input Guide is designed to help writers and other people submitting material get their ideas into print. More "Why" questions get answered. Jean Sexton answers questions about her plans in Texas. This section is rounded out with staff awards and other information about the company's plans.
Federation Commander has information on plans for the future, a tactics article on dealing with drones, information about how to create a historically accurate fleet, and information about playing on line or by email. There are battlegroups with tactics for facing one of four monsters. Finally, there are Command Notes and three new scenarios.
This issue includes five scenarios for Star Fleet Battles. SL322 is the scenario for the opening story. SL323 Securing a Hive has Seltorians facing Seltorians. SL324 Pride, Arrogance, and a Fall has a Federation Police squadron facing an Orion pirate force. SL325 They Are Only Sheep! is a solo adventure. SL326 Help Is Where You Find It has Andromedans facing a Hydran ship and a Klingon ship.
The Star Fleet Battles tactics group has 19 battle groups (including one from the Fralli with 550 administrative shuttles) with up to 550 points of ships facing off against various monsters. The Triangulum primer focuses on the Arachnids. There is a page of Term Papers. To complete the section there is the 2012 Platinum Victory article by Paul Scott.
Database articles include an article on star sheep. There are guidelines to convert Inter-Stellar Concordium ships to Gorn technology and vice versa. There are also rules to convert ISC ships to Romulan technology and vice versa. There are five pages of Ask Admiral Vanaxilth. The section is rounded out with proposals, updates to general Frax units, and answers to background questions.
The Venues include Star Fleet Warlord, SFB Online, Play by E-Mail, Star Fleet Battle Force, Prime Directive, Starmada, Star Fleet Marines, and Galactic Conquest.
A Call to Arms: Star Fleet has an article on how to play the game, a page of Call-Out Notes, four new ships, and a look at how the various refits affected the Constitution-Class Heavy Cruiser.
Federation & Empire gets its own proposals, Q&A, and "Why" questions. There is a page of Tactical Notes. There are draft rules for including the Vudar in F&E along with scenarios.
New ships include Federation Police Cutter variants: Scout Cutter, Commando Cutter, Drone Cutter, Escort Cutter, and Aegis Escort Cutter. Other new ships include the Federation New Light Plasma Cruiser and Plasma War Destroyer, Romulan KC5 Light Dreadnought and KC10 Heavy Dreadnought, Seltorian Hive Cargo Hauler and Nest Cargo Hauler, and Vudar Scout Frigate and Theater Transport Frigate.
Supports Federation Commander, Star Fleet Battles, Federation & Empire, Prime Directive, Star Fleet Battle Force, SFB Galactic Conquest, Starmada, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, Star Fleet Marines, and Star Fleet Warlord.

Nexus #16 Is Released in PDF
"We're here to look for pirates and Romulans and Gorns and anyone else who happens to show up! Our job is to stop them before they can get within detection range of you. Failing that, we have to destroy them before they can report back."
It is 1987 and Nexus #16 has just been released. This issue focused on the Star Fleet Universe, Starfire, and Delta Force. History of the Second World War, Battlewagon, East Wind Rain, Viceroys!, and Godsfire also have materials included.

In the historical section, History of the Second World War has orders of battle to add the Soviet Air Force and the German Luftwaffe to the game. Battlewagon adds information about the Soviet Navy. East Wind Rain has some guidelines for players as does Viceroys!.
In a category by itself, Godsfire has an overview with some strategies.
Delta Force has a whole section dedicated to it. The RPG-7 rocket launcher is added to the arsenal. An article to help players understand how terrorists and terrorism works is included. An article suggests that a new statistic of Recent Experience be added to characters as they continue on from mission to mission. Finally, there is a S.W.A.T. style scenario.
The Star Fleet Universe section starts with information about the company. The two-page Academy article is based on the Inter-Stellar Concordium. A page of Term Papers also is included. Star Fleet Universe Coloring Book #2: Aliens and Crew Is Available
For many years our fans have asked for a collection of line art. Now the second volume is available to you! The drawings range from fairly simple to more complex, so there is something for every skill level.
This second book focuses on the people of the Star Fleet Universe and includes crew and other folks you might meet (and a few ships) from the following empires: Federation, Andromedans (robots only!), Gorns, Romulans, Klingons, Lyrans, Kzintis, and Orions. There are some creatures, notably a space manta and space dragon.
Some of the art includes a snapshot of how it would look if colored for publication.
Much thanks to Dale McKee for making this possible!

Star Fleet Universe Coloring Book #3: More Starships Is Available
Our fans have continued to ask for even more line art of ships. In the Star Fleet Universe Coloring Book #3 we present Kzinti, Lyran, Hydran, and Orion ships! The drawings range from fairly simple to more complex, so there is something for every skill level.
Kzinti: Battlecruiser, Dreadnought, Medium cruiser, Light cruiser, Destroyers, Frigates, and Transport tug. There is also a Kzinti fighter.
Lyran: Lion-class dreadnought, Hellcat-class battlecruiser, Tiger-class heavy cruiser, Panther-class light cruiser, Jaguar-class war cruiser, Leopard-class destroyer, Alleycat-class war destroyer, and Cheetah-class frigate. There is also a copy of a Klingon fighter that the Lyrans built and used for themselves. The Lyran ships have a circle for their county's emblem, leaving you to pick from the 21 included emblems and draw them in or invent your own!
Hydran: Paladin dreadnought, Heavy cruisers, Medium cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates, Monarch battleship, a Ranger Cruiser launching fighters, and fighters.
Orion Pirates: Raider Cruiser, Light Raider, Salvage Cruiser, OK6 Heavy Cruiser, Double Raider, and Slaver Cargo Ship. Feel free to go crazy on these since pirates don't really have an "official" paint scheme for their ships.
The book includes a sample ship from each empire showing the "official" colors you would expect to see. However, you can color your ships to be anything you want. Since it is a PDF, you can try anything you want, and then start over if you don't like it.

Captain's Log #48 Now Available from Multiple Sources
But nothing was like a verminball, a pestilence from the Federation that the Earthers called a "tribble." Something about verminballs sent Klingon hormones and the Klingon nervous system into overdrive. Klingons who encountered verminballs reacted with barely controllable panic and fear.
Released in 2014, this Captain's Log issue supports Star Fleet Battles, Federation Commander, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, Starmada, Prime Directive, Star Fleet Battle Force, and Federation & Empire. "The Battle with Tribbles" by Stephen V. Cole focuses on the Klingon battlecruiser Crusher which is headed into battle, but two-thirds of the crew is down with flu and half of the systems don't work because of tribbles!
The rest of the History section includes a humorous list of definitions one might find used in Star Fleet, a look at the hidden story behind the first day of the invasion of the Federation by the Klingons, the solution to the zombie situation introduced in Captain's Log #44, a cooking show for Lyrans, and 10 things that Klingons and Romulans each won't tell you. The shipyard report focuses on the Fralli ship, the Powerista. Then there are articles on the history of the Carnivons, languages in the Star Fleet Universe, and merchant operations in the Star Fleet Universe.
As is usual, Communications is designed to inform readers about the company's activities. After Action reports are on Star Fleet Battles Module C6: Lost Empires and Captain's Log #48. The Input Guide is designed to help writers and other people submitting material get their ideas into print. A request went out designed to help us tighten up Starlist. The company explains why it isn't planning on attending Origins. This section is rounded out with staff awards and other information about the company's plans.
Federation Commander has information on plans for the future, rules for adding Carnivons and Paravians to the game, and information about playing online or by email. There are battlegroups with tactics for rescuing scientists from a planet in danger of breaking up. Finally, there are Command Notes and three new scenarios.
This issue includes six scenarios for Star Fleet Battles. SL327 Encounter at Taratok is the scenario for the opening story. SL328 Rescue at Farak III is a solo scenario to rescue scientists on a planet that is breaking up. SL329 Reversal of Fortune has Klingons facing an Orion pirate force. SL330 Molehole! has Lyrans facing Kzintis in a situation engineered by the Masters. SL331 High Profile Convoy pairs off Klingons and the Federation. SL332 Asteroid Field of Death pits 2-18 players in an asteroid field against each other.
The Star Fleet Battles tactics group has 18 battle group with up to 550 points of ships rescuing scientists. The Magellanic primer focuses on the Eneen. There is a page of Term Papers.

There are four pages of Ask Admiral Vanaxilth. The section is rounded out with proposals, campaign updates to include the lost empires, and answers to background questions.
The Venues include Star Fleet Warlord, SFB Online, Play by E-Mail, Star Fleet Battle Force, Prime Directive, Starmada, Star Fleet Marines, and Galactic Conquest.
A Call to Arms: Star Fleet has ship stats for the Planet Killer and a scenario featuring it. Then there is a page of Call-Out Notes.
Federation & Empire gets its own proposals, Q&A, and "Why" questions. There is a page of Tactical Notes. There are draft rules for including the Paravians in F&E along with a scenario featuring them.
New ships for Star Fleet Battles include Federation new survey carrier, escort battle frigate-R, limited aegis escort battle frigate-R, and Ranger-class battlecruiser; Romulan SeaHawk-F forward carrier; Tholian pocket battleship; Lyran Running Lion quick dreadnought; Paravian area control ship and war scout carrier; Carnivon area control ship and war scout carrier; and Jumokian Resistance Pirate new light cruiser and new frigate. New ships for Federation Commander include the Carnivon heavy cruiser and war destroyer and the Paravian heavy cruiser and war destroyer. Nexus #17 Is Released in PDF
The position given for the disabled ships was off their assigned patrol route. Too far off. The possibility of a trap occurred to him, but he could not afford to ignore the message. His Commander's Oath demanded that he investigate.
It is 1987 and Nexus #17 has just been released. This issue focused on the Star Fleet Universe, Starfire, and Delta Force. Viceroys!, East Wind Rain, and Gazala, the Clash of Armor also have materials included.
Starfire starts with a Q&A section. There is an article for New Empires players that focuses on the large fleet battles and another that examines industrial economic levels. Then there is a pirate campaign against Khanate shipping and forces.
In the historical section, Viceroys! has an article on a different strategy and a scenario. East Wind Rain has a campaign. Gazala gains a scenario (or two scenarios if you consider the alternative victory condition presented).
Delta Force has a whole section dedicated to it. More weapons, munitions, and equipment are added to the arsenal. There is a hostage-rescue scenario.
The Star Fleet Universe section starts with information about the company. Stacy Brian Bartley has an article on how to kitbash a WYN fleet and a painting guide for that fleet. The Shipyard Report is also on WYN ships. There is advice from Uncle Ardak about drones. The two-page Academy article is a discussion of tactics in various situations. A page of Term Papers also is included along with guidelines for submitting them and information about how they are selected. The short story "Brothers" by Mark J. Kicmol focuses on an encounter between Lyrans and Hydrans and there is an accompanying scenario. There is also an article examining how ships take damage. Federation & Empire gets a scenario for the Second Federation-Kzinti War. Tactical Notes make their appearance as well.
This PDF is provided by Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc. with the kind permission of Allen D. Eldridge. It includes ads and offers from 1987; these are no longer valid.

You have probably noticed by now that the title of this column has changed from "Opening Lines" to "Closing Lines." The reason is that this is the final issue of Nexus magazine.
It is 1987 and the final issue of Nexus, Nexus #18, has just been released. This issue focused on the Star Fleet Universe, Starfire, and Delta Force. Musketeers, Crime Fighter, Battlewagon, and Viceroys! also have materials included.
Starfire starts with a Q&A section. There are two pieces of fiction with accompanying scenarios. There is an article on spicing up the systems that are encountered. Finally, there is an introduction to Terra Fire, which expands the ground combat rules in New Empires.
Delta Force has an extensive article with information on fleshing out a character's background, including military operations and medals and commendations from the United States and various other countries.
Musketeers has an article about transferring the game setting to Japan. Crime Fighter, a role-playing game based on action/drama TV police shows, is introduced and gains two scenarios. Battlewagon has a scenario based on the Battle of Tassafaronga. Viceroys! has optional rules for commodities, random events, and other special situations.
The Star Fleet Universe section starts with information about the company. Readers are reminded that Captain's Log #6 is the next one to be published. The one-page Academy article is a discussion of tactics in various situations. A page of Term Papers also is included; notably, Cadet Steven Petrick has his first term paper published. There is advice from Uncle Ardak about complex tactical situations. Federation & Empire gets missions that can be undertaken along with Tactical Notes for the game. The highlight of the section is the introduction of first-generation X-ships with rules, descriptions, and a master ship chart.

Star Fleet Battles Commander's Edition, Supplement #2 Available
"Sir, what is that? It is registering as tougher than our X-ship!"
"Lieutenant, that is a second-generation X-ship. Luckily, we aren't after the convoy it is protecting. Move out and report this to the admiral."
Long unavailable except in the second-hand market, we are releasing Supplement #2 in PDF. The buyer is reminded that the first-generation X-ships were heavily revised for the Captain's Edition of Star Fleet Battles. The second-generation X-ships presented here do not combine well with the ships in the later edition of SFB.
Star Fleet Battles Commander's Edition, Supplement #2 includes new rules, new SSDs, information about the "Trade Wars" era, six new scenarios, and a patrol campaign. Some existing scenarios and campaigns have suggestions for modification to use the new ships. Images for 108 counters are also included.
This has been scanned from the best available copy. You will need Star Fleet Battles Commander's Edition Volume I to use this material. Volumes II and III will be needed for some aspects. Please note that this title was designed by Mike Thompson.
