It is good to see the ADB Security Chief on the job.

I presume R4J will also be available at Warehouse 23 in the near future?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, April 15, 2021 - 11:05 am: Edit |
I think it already is/was. I just didn’t check there. It was uploaded there before it was uploaded at DT.

I checked after seeing your 12:08 AM post but didn't see it. Maybe it was there but I somehow missed it. I'll look again.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Thursday, April 15, 2021 - 11:12 am: Edit |
Ok, It IS there now. Cool.

And purchased!
ETA: For the W23 PDF of the rulebook, at least, the kerning on the text in the (R4.J) alternative history section is very inconsistent, with lots of cases of letters in a word actually touching in the page (e.g. "than" having no space at all between the "a" and "n"). Also, are the "Technology" sections of a given timeline entry meant to be a different font?
The actual rules sections (ship descriptions, scenarios, etc) look to have the text formatted properly, though there are cases where the black header bar across the top of the page and for the individual scenario headings are cut "short", not extending up from the top of the white text).

BUWAHAHA! Bow down, you inferior empires!* No longer shall a temporal aberration rob us of our rightful dominion!
*(Except for the Tholians. We're still afraid of them.)

We upload to W23 then to DT but DT often gets it published first. I posted when I saw it because I was soooo happy that the nightmare march to release was finally over. Every time we turned around, something horrible happened, or somebody forgot something, or somebody noticed something. (Right in the middle of uploading it, Jean noticed a typo on page 1 and we had to stop everything and fix it.)

I sent everything off to W23 before I started working on DTRPG/WV. Since it was three titles with interlinked notes, I went ahead and put it up on DriveThru, simply so I wouldn't be playing catchup today. Since I save any publicity until after I have heard from W23, I figure the only people who would notice it on DTRPG/WV are those who would buy there. I didn't expect a link to be published before I did the publicity.

The Early Bird version of Star Fleet Battles: Module R4J – Shadow of the Eagle is now available!
Romulans Got Warp!
We are notifying you about the preliminary PDF version of the rulebook and SSD book, complete with scenarios, annexes, master ship charts, and all of the needed rules and ship descriptions. In a few months, when we are sure that any errors have been caught and corrected, the PDFs will be updated with anything found by the players and used as the print edition. The print edition will include die-cut counters.
The 46-page rulebook includes descriptions of dozens of new warp-powered Romulan ships and also has the following scenarios: Internal Security; External Intruders (Romulans and Orion pirates), New Neighbors (Romulans and Klingons), Practical Experience (Romulans and Tholians), and Supply Raid (Romulans and Gorns).
The Star Fleet Battles Module R4J SSD Book is available as an e-book. As an e-book, you have a choice of the original black-and-white SSDs or the color ones. The 56-page SSD book from Star Fleet Battles: Module R4J has SSDs for the new warp-powered Romulan ships. The ships include the "W" warp-refitted ships, "Y" Early Years ships, Middle Years ships, and modern ships (warships, Police ships, and National Guard ships).

As I said at lunch, Jean, I didn't mean to step on your (marketing) toes, but I was so very happy that R4J finally made it!
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Thursday, April 15, 2021 - 03:41 pm: Edit |
The alternate background (the bit I've had the chance to read) is some really good stuff! And having "capable" pre-GW Romulan ships even if just for patrol games is fun - I tend to like earlier period ships for the non-optimized factor. Especially since they still have a bit of that eggshell-with-howitzers feel but can actually maneuver!
Definitely hoping this does well and supports the idea of future Stellar Shadow modules.

Catch up with all the news! And the Klingon WB10 Super Battleship has stats for A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, an SSD for Star Fleet Battles, and a ship card for Federation Commander!

That WB10 is a beast! It will be fun to play!
I don't care that it's non-historical...

Question: What would happen if someone were to weld a pair of battle pods to the sides of the hull extention to the rear?
By Kosta Michalopoulos (Kosmic) on Friday, April 16, 2021 - 01:38 pm: Edit |
Answer: Automatic breakdown at anything greater than speed 1.
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Friday, April 16, 2021 - 01:41 pm: Edit |
Jeff, looking at the ship on Shapeways, there's not really enough room on the added structure to fit pods, and their firing arcs would be blocked by the main hull of the ship.
Now putting one on top of the deckhouse....
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Friday, April 16, 2021 - 03:19 pm: Edit |
I never expected to add a new ship to the game. That's a cool thing.
The B10T is a thing that exists [shudder] and has a pair of battlepods. That mini is available through the Shapeways store.
