Captain's Log #30 Now Available from Multiple Sources

"And again, my young fellow, you have done your duty to my satisfaction. I need you to stop wasting time, however, with all this sleeping. You can sleep when you are dead, so hurry up and get in shape." -- Commodore Korath

Released in November 2004, this Captain's Log issue supports Star Fleet Battles and Federation & Empire. "The Threads of War" by Loren Knight tells the story of Korgan who boards an Orion raider to inspect its cargo and everything goes terribly wrong. In "Flotilla Commander" by Stephen V. Cole, Lieutenant Kerrell takes command of a G1 gunboat flotilla in mid-battle. In the next battle, can he and his flotilla pull out a victory?

In addition to the story, History includes an article on the crew of a Klingon gunboat and deck plans for the Klingon G1L gunboat leader. There is also a class history of the Gorn carriers. The Federation A-6 attack shuttle is also discussed.

As is usual, Communications is designed to inform readers about the company's activities. On-demand printing is affecting how the company functions. After Action reports are on Captain's Log #29 and SFB Module R8 and Module R9. The company laid out its plans for releases both in print and for miniatures for the coming year. The Input Guide is about the bridge crew. Admiral Growler answers SFB questions; More "Why" questions get answered. This section is rounded out with humor and staff awards.

Database articles include battlegroups designed with fighters and PFs (gunboats). There is an article on the Space Amoeba. Operation Unity is updated to allow for ships described since the publication of Module C3.

New ships and a base are added for Star Fleet Battles. Everyone gets the Advanced Technology X-Sector Base and the Heavy Auxiliary Troop Transport. Was there a problem with CL30 before? Apparently i already purchased it.

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Thursday, November 12, 2020 - 03:03 pm: Edit

Aaron, it wasn't on DTRPG or Wargame Vault. By the rules of some of the external sites, I can only publicize it once. So this is my once. :)

Oh. Ok!

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, November 12, 2020 - 05:30 pm: Edit

When we started doing PDFs we only did them on Warehouse. Once we added DTRPG/OBS/WV they had some catching up to do, and as I previously explained, there are serious business reasons (already explained) why we could not put everything from W23 on DT in one day.

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Tuesday, December 01, 2020 - 01:22 pm: Edit

If you had the PDF version of the Star Fleet Battles Basic Set Rulebook, it was the 2005 edition. We have replaced that with the 2012 edition. You should find it already in your library.

Captain's Log #49 Is Now Available

"Ma'am, there are entire encyclopedias dedicated to the Andromedan War. Is there something shorter I can read to fill me in?"

Captain's Log #31 Now Available from Multiple Sources

Rin Jankae sat in his command chair, his thoughts hidden behind his impenetrable black eyes and his steepled, long white fingers. He was trying to decide for himself if today was the day that the Romulans entered the war.

Released in June 2005, this Captain's Log issue supports Star Fleet Battles and Federation & Empire. "Shield of the Federation" by Randy O. Green is a story of the Day of the Eagle, the day the Romulans entered the General War. Can the cruiser Groton and destroyer Genghis hold off the Romulans and be the shield of the Federation? "Lawfare" provides some humor in the issue. "Aces and Eights" takes place nearly a month after the Day of the Eagle and focuses on the destroyer Halsey.

In addition to the story, History includes deck plans for the Romulan SkyHawk, class histories for the Federation battle frigate and Klingon F6, and a history of the Federation bomber program.

As is usual, Communications informs readers about the company's activities. The company hired two new people, thus helping spread out the workload. Captain's Log #30 and SFB Module F1 have after-action reports. The company laid out its plans for new print releases and metal miniatures for the coming year. There are questions and answers about Starlist, which makes it easy for players to contact other players. The Input Guide has guidelines for how not to submit scenarios, ships, and fiction. Admiral Growler answers SFB questions. There is a discussion about some proposals and a call for Rangers. More "Why" questions get answered. There is an interview with Ken Burnside. There are two pages of filk songs. Finally, there are the Star Fleet Awards.

This issue includes seven scenarios for Star Fleet Battles. SL234, The Shield of the Federation, and SL235, Aces and Eights, are based on the two stories in the issue. Set during the Early Years, SL236, Web of Curiosity, involves an encounter between the Tholians and Klingons. SL237, Follies of Second-Hand Goods, pits Orions against Jindarians. An Omega scenario, SL238, An Intruding Situation, has the first covert attempt of the Andromedans to take over the Drex. SL239, Further Intrusions, has an Andromedan-controlled Drex dreadnought attacking a Drex battlecruiser and three gunboats. SL240, Riposte at Anporlax, is a classic matchup of the Federation and Klingons.

Database articles include battlegroups designed with local forces. There is an article on the moray eel. Admiral's Game is updated to allow for ships described since 1999. There is an excerpt of a partial X-refit rule from SFB Module X1R. There are new rules for creating F&E battle groups in SFB and for advanced ground combat in SFB. There is a guide for converting captured Andromedan ships to fit in the fleets of the Galactic Powers, and vice versa. The final article is an example of how energy balancing works when the ship is damaged.

The Tactics section has primers for the Sharkhunters and Alunda. There are over two pages of term papers, along with another half-page with encore term papers.

The Venues section covers Star Fleet Command, SFB On-Line, playing by email, Galactic Conquest (with an article by Howard Bampton introducing a new Andromedan War campaign), Star Fleet Warlord, GURPS Prime Directive, and Star Fleet Battle Force.

Federation & Empire has a rule from Strategic Operations on Survey Ships. There are four pages of tactical notes. Finally, there are rules and rulings.

New ships and gunboats are added for Star Fleet Battles. The Federation gets its battle frigate carrier, battle frigate scout, battle frigate escort, and battle drone frigate; Klingons gain the F6B battle frigate, F6J penal battle frigate, F6S battle frigate scout, and F6E battle frigate escort; the Romulans get the JayHawk battle frigate; the Kzintis get their battle frigate. The Klingons and Federation each gain their fast destroyers. The new gunboats are recovery PFRs and survey PFQs. Other ships are "anarchist" ships including a Romulan Intruder, Kzinti Conquistador, and two Andromedan-captured ships: a Gorn battlecruiser and a Lyran heavy cruiser.

This issue is available from the following vendors:

The Early Bird version of Star Fleet Battles: Module R4T - The Tholian Will is now available!

Even more Tholian ships for you to use!

We are notifying you about the preliminary PDF version of the rulebook and SSD book, complete with scenarios, annexes, master ship charts, and all of the needed rules and ship descriptions. In a few weeks, when counters get here from the die cutter, the PDFs will be updated with anything found by the players and used as the print edition. The print edition will include die-cut counters.

This 48-page rulebook includes dozens of new Tholian ships, some from their Home Galaxy M81 and some designed and built in this galaxy. There are three broad categories:

First, there are Home Galaxy variants of ships you know and fear from the Milky Way versions seen in previous products.

Second, there is a full range of mission variants from two new hulls built in this galaxy: the Tholian Police Destroyer (two police cutter hulls welded together side by side) and the Tholian Police War Destroyer (one and a half police cutter hulls welded together end to end). These include carriers, escorts, commando ships, scouts, leaders, transports, and so many more.

Third, there are the ships the Tholians always wanted but had to do without until now! Now available is their legendary battleship in multiple refits, including carriers and stellar domination types. Find their long-missing war destroyer variants. Also included are the fast raider variants of their cruisers and destroyer. And there are many more!

It also has the following scenarios: On the Holdfast Beat (Tholian and Klingon), Recovery (Tholian and Orion pirates), Wrong Enemy (Tholian and Andromedan), and Reclamation (Tholian and Romulan). Of course, it also has the section of the Master Ship Chart that pertains to the ships included.

The Star Fleet Battles Module R4T SSD Book is available in print and as an e-book. As an e-book, you have a choice of the original black-and-white SSDs or the color ones. This 83-page SSD book from Star Fleet Battles: Module R4T has SSDs for the new Tholian ships.

Is R1 coming out soon as pdf

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - 12:39 am: Edit

R1 will be along later this year. R2 has to be done first. I am not sure if another one ran out and we have to do it before R1, but R1 is the next "not run out but replace it anyway" project.

Remember that we have to update things before we upload them or get trashed in the reviews. One trash review screws up the entire product line.

Makes sense thanks Steave

Jean,

Is there a timeline to upload the Comamnder's SSD Books?

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 - 05:24 pm: Edit

Ken, no. I'm struggling to keep up with the two different jobs and proofreading, along with the personal stuff going on. I am sorry about that.

Happy holidays to all at ADB.
Was it ever determined if there was another module that needed replacing before R1? Just curious which one might be next.

Captain's Log #50 Now Available from Multiple Sources

"In conclusion, what I can say is that most Gorn officers are willing to fight the Romulans if and when the Romulans attack." -- from a report by Star Fleet Intelligence.

The Golden Issue! Released in March 2015 for our 50th issue, we blew out all of the stops to provide the hottest new material for each game. This Captain's Log issue supports Star Fleet Battles, Federation Commander, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, Starmada, Prime Directive, Star Fleet Battle Force, Star Fleet Marines, and Federation & Empire. "Day of the Dragon" by Stephen V. Cole reveals how and why the Gorns entered the General War.

The rest of the History section includes "Scalewing" by Scott Moellmer, which is the story of a Gorn fighter pilot. A human Marshal is forced to face and revise his preconceptions about Gorns during a game of wits with an ISC patrol in "The Business of Being Here" by Jeff Anderson. Have a few chuckles as you read the "Reality TriVideo Preview." Find out more about the South Polar Vulcans.

As is usual, Communications is designed to inform readers about the company's activities. After Action reports are on Federation Master Starship Book, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, Version 1.2, and the ship roster cards for that version of ACTASF. The company answers 10 questions about its operations. The Input Guide is designed to help writers and other people submitting material get their ideas into print. Aiding that is a section discussing why "technology sloshing" is prohibited in the SFU. This issue of Captain's Log has memorials for Leonard Nimoy and Isis, the Bengal cat that served as ADB's Inspector-General for years. There are further questions about technology, history, and ship design. "Gunfight at Tholia's Web" is a filk song. This section is rounded out with staff awards and other information about the company's plans.

Federation Commander has information on plans for the future, information about the Peladine (a new empire for Federation Commander), and information about playing online or by email. There's a page of Command Notes. There is a guide to close-range combat. There are battlegroups with tactics for a squadron assigned to protect seven freighters from the opposing force and its freighters. Finally, there are four new scenarios. One of those is for the new space monster: the space spider. Another is for the battlegroup situation. The third is based on a battle from the cover story. The final one is based on a trivideo by one of Olivette Roche's students.

This issue includes four scenarios for Star Fleet Battles. SL339 Battle of the Roadster is the scenario for the cover story. SL340 Fighting Convoys lays out the situation for the battlegroups. SL341 Final Act is a huge confrontation between the Klingons and Kzintis. SM19 Space Spider features that space monster.

The Star Fleet Battles tactics section has an account by Stephen McCann of his victory in the Platinum Tournament of 2013. The battlegroup section has a dozen confrontations between two empires attacking and defending freighters. The Magellanic primer focuses on the Maghadim. There is a page of Term Papers.

Database articles include an article on the space spider. There are guidelines to convert Paravian ships to various empires' technologies and vice versa. There are two pages of Ask Admiral Vanaxilth and another two of Ask Kommodore Ketrick. There is information on the Zosmans. The section is rounded out with proposals, campaign updates for the Frax, and answers to background questions.

The Venues include Star Fleet Warlord, SFB Online, Play by E-Mail, Star Fleet Battle Force, Prime Directive, Starmada, Star Fleet Marines, and Galactic Conquest. A Call to Arms: Star Fleet has rules and stats for the Moray Eel.

Federation & Empire gets its own proposals, Q&A, and "Why" questions. There is a page of Tactical Notes. Ravaging Cross-Winds: The Romulan Civil War is a new scenario; a sheet of playtest counters is included.

New ships for Star Fleet Battles include Klingon DCG commando collared war cruiser, DCC command collared war cruiser, DCF anti-fighter collared war cruiser, DCH cargo collared war cruiser, E2 early escort; Kzinti Middle Years cruiser; Gorn neo-command cruiser; Tholian jumbo web tender; Lyran Flamecat light space control ship; ISC light torpedo battleship; Seltorian Assault Wagon; Vudar commando war destroyer; and Zosman heavy cruiser, light cruiser, destroyer, and frigate. New ships for Federation Commander include the Peladine heavy cruiser, war cruiser, war destroyer, and frigate. Starmada gets the Andromedan Cobra, Intruder, Conquistador, and Mamba. These are for both the Admiralty and Nova editions of that game system. A Call to Arms: Star Fleet gets the Klingon F5B Fury-class frigate, D6B Barbarous-class heavy cruiser, D7B Klodode-class battlecruiser, and D5 Renegade-class war cruiser.

Supports Federation Commander, Star Fleet Battles, Federation & Empire, Prime Directive, Star Fleet Battle Force, SFB Galactic Conquest, Starmada, A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, Star Fleet Marines, and Star Fleet Warlord.

Please, are there available pdf of captain's log 51 to buy somewhere ?

It is not available at drivethru or wargame vault. I usually bought a paper copy from your store but now the the shipment cost is too high (I live in France, and shipment double the cost).

ADB delays release of CL .pdfs to combat piracy. It appears that CL 50 is the latest available in .PDF.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, August 22, 2022 - 07:24 am: Edit

Jean should be putting up 51 sometime very soon, then 52 a month later, then 53 a month later. After we publish 55 we can talk about 54.
