I completely agree. I also think it's worth paying more to keep ADB financially healthy. As many posts on this BBS demonstrate every day, this feels more like a community of friends than a company.

An apology to all

My intent with my last post on this thread was to express the feeling (clearly shared by all) that the price increase is recognized as necessary and cheerfully accepted.

The poorly delivered humor was out of line.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 12:39 am: Edit

Jeff, the humor was easily understood and not a problem.

Get your bases, freighters, and naval auxiliaries here!

Newly updated in 2023, this is the 22-page rulebook for SFB Module R1 covering general ships for all empires. It includes descriptions for bases such as the mobile base, commercial platform, and system activity maintenance station; ground bases such as fighter, missile, and PF bases; freighters such as repair freighters, suicide, and exploration freighters; and auxiliary naval ships such as PF tenders and space control ships.

There are five scenarios in this rulebook. The Weakest Link features an attack against a defended mobile base. Auxiliary Attack features a squadron with an auxiliary fast patrol ship tender attacking a planet defended by another small squadron. Disaster at Annox V features Klingon Captain Kumerian attacking the Federation's processing station known as Annox V. Repair Forward has the Romulans attacking a group of damaged ships and a small repair force. The Count's Coup has Lyran Count Kleaves attacking a group of ships defending a Hydran planet.

This product provides additional ships for use in Star Fleet Battles. You must have the SFB Basic Set to utilize this material. You will need SFB Module C1 (or the SFB Master Rulebook) to use the ISC units. Some of the ships require the Advanced Missions set or the SFB Master Rulebook.

Get your new PDF rulebooks here:

Warehouse 23: https://warehouse23.com/products/star-fleet-battles-module-r1-rulebook-2023
DriveThru RPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/431796/
Wargame Vault: https://www.wargamevault.com/product/431796/

If you want it in print, you can order it from ADB's shopping cart: https://www.starfleetstore.com/rulebooks-c-1_3_4/module-r1-rulebook-2023-p-154.html

And for once, folks who like print get something first! The SSD book for Module R1 was also updated! You can get the complete 2023 module (still has the old countersheet) or just the SSD book on the shopping cart. Just search for 5606 and you'll find everything.

Will the SSD be up for digital download soon?

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 06:33 pm: Edit

Soon. I want to release the B&W and the color SSD books at the same time.

This edition is missing the wealth of play aids the original edition had. Will those be added to the website?

By Kosta Michalopoulos (Kosmic) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 08:23 pm: Edit

So are Modules R1, R2, R3 and R4 now updated to the same standards? Or are the other modules looking at their own future updates to get them to the new R1 standard? I looked at the Update List to get an understanding of where things currently stand, but it left me confused.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 09:23 pm: Edit

Kosta, R1-R4 are all the same standard - essentially a module is not released in PDF until it has been so updated.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 10:07 pm: Edit

Many of those play aids were replaced in G3. Others needed a lot of updating and will be in a future item. When we did the 1992 R1 (or was it 1996, I don't remember) we had a minimum book size and the book was much smaller. We basically threw into R1-Rulebook everything laying around loose to avoid blank pages. Those really never "fit" into the product.

SVC, makes sense! Thank you.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 10:40 pm: Edit

I don't think it ever had a formal rule and was more of a doodle.

The dividing line should be there. Not sure why it isn't, but at least it doesn't affect anything. Put it on the list to fix before the print run.

By Ryan Opel (Feast) on Monday, March 27, 2023 - 11:58 pm: Edit

I created a topic for Module R1 to post any issues.

Federation & Empire: Advanced Operations 2022 Available in Print!

Enemy Raid Inbound! Form Battle Group Immediately!

Newly updated in 2022, Advanced Operations, an expansion for Federation & Empire, is all about advanced strategies and new capabilities. Expand your campaign with these new ships, rules, and systems.

Raid! Raids strike deep in the heart of a foe. How to defeat them? Combine many small ships into a battle group, a powerful fleet element. Use admirals to increase command and control. Carefully place your new scout ships to provide an advanced warning of the threat. Rip up your enemy with fast drones. Protect your commanders with flagship escort groups. Create impregnable squadrons with carrier groups. Use oversized fighter squadrons to take attrition warfare to new levels of fury.

Build low-cost bases without their fighters and patrol ships, which can be added later. "Cash in" fighters on CVAs to create space control ships. And there are rules that increase flexibility for fighters, neutral zones, and dreadnoughts.

Do you want new ship types? Try out X-ships, capable of outfighting their predecessors. Casual PFs enhance combat power. Experiment with fast warships, heavy war destroyers, penal ships, F111 carriers, and new dreadnoughts.

Want to try out a new scenario? The huge scenario Winds of Fire (617) covers three years of Alliance offensives during the General War. The scenario is divided into six sectors to allow you to play as big a game as you wish. Will the Alliance decide to knock the Romulans out of the war? Or will they use their strategic reserve in a grand, sweeping offensive across the entire front line?

You will need the Federation & Empire 2010 Rulebook and various countersheets to use this expansion.

You can download the Advanced Operations Rulebook from these sources:

Warehouse 23: https://warehouse23.com/products/federation-and-empire-advanced-operations-2022-rulebook
DriveThru RPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/416949/
Wargame Vault: https://www.wargamevault.com/product/416949/

It is available as a complete expansion (including the rulebook and four sheets of double-sided counters) from either your local game store or direct from ADB: https://www.starfleetstore.com/expansions-c-22_88/fe-advanced-operations-2022-p-256.html

Good gaming to you!
