I am past seven weeks; I expected to be on a cane in six. I was told by the surgeon and therapist that given my age and injury ten was a better guess. It's difficult to keep thinking there is an end to this.

FRIDAY 20 SEPT -- DAY 53
Leanna stocked up groceries for me for next week.
The physical therapist came by for an hour, had me do all of my exercises, said that she could tell I had been doing my exercises since she had seen me last, noted major progress in strength in my right leg.

MONDAY 23 SEPT -- DAY 56
Eight weeks post broken hip.
Leanna and Jean left on a long-planned five-day Church trip to Colorado. Leanna phoned in about 5pm to say she had zip-lined across Royal Gorge, but Jean had declined that opportunity.
After the girls left, I got up, ate breakfast, got properly dressed for the first time in eight weeks. Albert picked me up and took me to lunch, then the office, then the dermatologist where I had two SQC skin cancers removed. (There will be more surgery on each one later, that's how Medicare works. They could easily do it all in one go, but the doctor gets more money if done in three different trips weeks apart.) After that, Albert took me home and helped me get settled.
On the way home, I bought two buckets of KFC in the theory that Albert and I would each get two or three meals from it during a week that we are temporary bachelors. Turns out, the KFC employees used this as a way to get rid of the stale dried out chicken leftover from lunch four hours earlier. The chicken as dry, tough, and totally inedible. Even the cats would not eat it.
I discovered later that I had somehow injured my left arm and right groin, making it impossible to do my exercises. About 10pm the pain killers on the two surgical biopsy sites wore off and the result was two steps beyond darned annoying.

TUESDAY 24 SEPT -- DAY 57
Got caught up on sleep, apparently. Had Biscuits and gravy for breakfast, leftover stew for lunch.
Walkered to the mailbox and got the mail. I called Albert before I went out and after I got back.
Pain in less so I will try to do exercises this evening.

WEDNESDAY 25 SEPT — DAY 58
Slept well, biscuit and gravy for breakfast, leftover stew for lunch, tv dinner for supper.
I walkered outside to feed the wild foxes and get the mail.
Physical therapist said I had made great progress over the last week. I took my first few steps on a cane which made it obvious that I won’t get there anytime soon.

FRIDAY 27 SEPT -- DAY 60
I spent the morning sleeping and the afternoon doing what I could to clean up the house before Leanna got home from the church trip. She finally arrived two hours late. Nobody accounted for the fact that taking 22 senior citizens into a small Colorado cafe and trying to get breakfast (later lunch) in a timely matter was going to overwhelm the kitchen.

SATURDAY 28 SEPT -- DAY 61
The plan was for Leanna to take me to lunch with Albert and Jean but I wasn't feeling well and had to stay home and eat cold leftovers. I didn't do much as I felt horrible. Not really sure why.

SUNDAY 29 SEPT -- DAY 62
Slept late. Leanna cooked ham and navy beans for lunch. Felt a bit better but like I had lost all of the progress made in the last month. The day did not get much better.
