Trying to prove that you are you when some criminal has stolen your identity with an all-in-one ID card sounds like an almost insurmountable problem.

JGA, yes identity theft can be difficult to correct, but need not be not easy to perpetrate either. Safe guards are possible to implement. For example, an password activated ID app on the phone, as is the norm over here, can be used in conjunction with an ID card.

Biometrics. You can encode a thumbprint onto it.
By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 - 09:15 am: Edit |
Which is great, if you have a thumbprint.
Fun fact: my mother has no thumbprints. She cleaned houses as a side gig for the better part of forty years...and the net result of forty years of cleaning chemicals have rendered her unable to be fingerprinted; when they try (which they did at the county office when she was getting a firearms permit), all they get are solid blotches.

My wife cleans houses and also has no finger prints. Drives them nuts when she renews her drivers license.

TUESDAY 29 OCTOBER -- DAY 92
I drove Leanna to a doctor appointment, which should have taken an hour but took five hours because, well, that doctor is notorious for having no concept of time. I went by the office to answer some emails but could not actually do any real work. I got a lot of walking on a cane in high wind and sloping concrete parking lots, so there's that. My blood pressure is highly unstable and erratic. The surgical incision is an angry red from the many extra stitches they put in it.

WEDNESDAY 30 OCTOBER -- DAY 93
My last physical therapy appointment and it was brutal, but I exceeded all expectations. Medicare won't pay for any more so the rest of my recovery is up to me.

THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER -- DAY 94
I drove Leanna to lunch then to her dental appointment. While she was there, I dashed over to my cardiologist for a blood test to see if the new meds were going to kill me or something. Then we ran some errands, went home, and changed clothes.
We drove back to town, to the office, where we picked up Albert, Jean, and Wolf. We then went to the church TRUNK OR TREAT party with a thousand kids getting a mountain of candy from 30 cars that formed the arcade.
After that, we drove Albert, Jean, and Wolf home and went to get dinner then went home ourselves.
My blood pressure remains unstable and too high. I did everything on my cane and have gotten pretty good (if still slow) doing that. I told Jean I would drop by the office when I had my cardiologist appointment on Monday.

FRIDAY 1 NOVEMBER -- DAY 95
Stayed home, exercised, rested.
Blood pressure remained unstable, bouncing from 140-180.

SATURDAY 2 NOVEMBER -- DAY 96
Went to town, had pizza, went to grocery store for the first time since I fell, drove around in a electric cart getting the healthy food I couldn't tell Leanna how to find.
Exercised, rested.
Blood pressure remained unstable, bouncing from 140-180.

SUNDAY 3 NOVEMBER 2024 -- DAY 97
Stayed home. Had a severe attack of non-24 and was unable to sleep from 5am Saturday until 1am Monday. Felt bad all of Sunday.
At 5am I drove to Leanna's favorite bakery for her breakfast. She was surprised.
Blood pressure remained unstable, bouncing from 140-180.

MONDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2024 -- DAY 98
Fourteen weeks since the accident.
Slept well, blood pressure seemed to be settling down to 140 or so.
The evaluator for my physical therapy program came by to test me, and said I had make great progress. He showed me new exercises. The plan was for him to "graduate me" as Medicare would not pay for more, but he called later to say that he had contacted Medicare and got me more sessions over the next month.
Drove to town, had lunch.
Went to cardiologist who checked my hand-written blood pressure records, said I kept better records than anyone she had ever seen, said to come back in 3 weeks and if my BP was not steady under 140 she would change my medication.

Steve, did the doctors ever figure out the cause of the dizziness that caused the fall in the first place? That still has me worried.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, November 05, 2024 - 05:30 pm: Edit |
No, they have not. Right now they're trying to get my blood pressure stable at 135. They said they had eliminated the horses and were going to start testing for zebras at my next appointment in 3 weeks.

OK, that was fabulous!
Here's hoping that they can get the blood pressure and dizziness sorted for you soon, Steve.

TUESDAY 5 NOVEMBER— DAY 99
Drove to town for lunch, took Leanna to an appointment, went to get the stitches pulled from my right elbow, went by the office to help find a lost file, went home. I was walking better and better with the cane, mastering the two-step (moving the cane and right leg together) and even starting to approach a normal walking gait.
At the end of the day, I was very happy.

Home health nurse visited to take readings and review my medical log. The new blood pressure meter arrived.
Drove back to town with Leanna for Church supper and visited with many old friends.

SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER -- DAY 103
Went to town to run errands, did grocery shopping in one of their little electric carts, had a nice lunch, did a couple of errands that mostly involved me driving and staying in the car. Because of the artificial knee, getting into and out of the driver's seat of any car is a challenge.
