I sent Paul the Gorn BDL but until I hear that he's caught up I'm going to do one ship per day and spend the rest of my time on the Klingon SIT update.

I sent Paul the Andro Missionary, which I think is the last FC Andro ship card not previously sent. (If he finds one missing I'll do it.)

We chatted and he's got a nice backlog steadily flowing into the game, so everyone locked at home by COVID19 can keep playing and expect the flood of new ships to continue.

If you have a request for an existing ship to be added to FCOL, let Paul and I know and we'll see where it is in the pipeline. I am not going to be creating entirely new ships but if there is an SFB Andro not in FC well I am always looking for Play Value Extras to add to the newsletters.

I have recently resumed sending new ships and requested ships to Chris and Paul for use in FCOL having not sent any in a year. (I just forgot.) The process is straightforward if the details can be tedious.

They send me a list of ships they want. Over time, I do them and put them in the "ships ready to send file". If YOU want a particular ship added to SFBOL email me and I'll put it in the que with their requested ships. Recently I have been cleaning up the files so I ask Chris questions like "Do you have everything from Hydran Attack?" to which he replies "Everything but ship ###." I check and if I have the ship I send it right the and if not I put it in the que.

I have a big file of ships not sent yet and whenever my file of "ships ready to send" hits zero I go do one ship from each empire out of the "not done yet" file and process these "unrequested"ships into the "ships ready to go" file.

The process is tedious. First I check to see if the ship was already done. If so, I send it and move on. If not, I clone the file, then strip out the parts FCOL does not use, then move stuff around to reach a compacted area, then export as a JPG-300, then convert that into a JPG-80, putting that into "ships ready to send." For efficiency, I often do several ships at once, but only one step. Today they sent me a list of four they want. I found them, cloned them, and deleted the stuff they don't use. However, I have yet to reshuffle those into compact areas or export them to JPGs.

One situation here is that sometimes they ask for a ship that I already did. This might be one of my "unrequested" ships or it might be a ship I did a year or a decade earlier. (Maybe I forgot to send it, maybe internet ate it, maybe they lost it. Doesn't matter.) If it's a requested ship I usually send it immediately just to clean up the files. If it's an unrequested ship I ask them if they still need it.

Every day, at some point, I send Chris and Paul one or two ships. Some days I go move a batch of ships one step forward. For example, tomorrow or some later day I will "compact" the four current requests into smaller footprints and export them to JPG-300s. Some later day I will convert those into JPG-80s and put them in the "ready file."

Today Chris N requested the Romulan KC7R which I had done a couple of days earlier as part of the "unrequested" series. Since it was done and he asked for it, I sent it to him straight away I think I actually sent him five ships today.

You can read the process in the company weblog, although that just records what I do, not how fast Chris N puts them into FCOL. Chris is a volunteer and works when he has time. I don't really track of whether he keeps up with the ships as fast as I send them. He's welcome to post a note here whenever he adds a ship.

Today I sent Chris one requested ship, one lost ship, one unrequested ship, and four replacements for ships I had sent at the wrong size earlier. He's doing about two ships a day so I'm going to have to slow down what I send to let him catch up. If the bench gets too deep, he will start losing track of what I sent. Unfortunately, my part of sending ships is much easier than his part of converting them into FC descriptions.

Allow me to add a review of how FedCom cards get to Chris. (I understand that he explained what he does with them on the chat last night. Sorry I couldn't be there.)

First, there is the EPS/Freehand version used in FedCom. It gets cloned into a special FC folder.

The cloned card is then stripped of things FCOL doesn't need and rearranged into the FCOL/EPS version. This is retained on the hard disk permanently so if I have to do the card over for some reason this is where I go. Sometimes I do two ships a day, sometimes I do several at a time then don't do any to this step for a while.

The FCOL/EPS version is then exported to JPG at 300dpi and called FCOL300. Sometimes I do two ships a day, sometimes I do several at a time then don't do any to this step for a while.

The FCOL300 version is then opened in Photoshop and resized (Sometimes I do two ships a day, sometimes I do several at a time then don't do any to this step for a while), meaning that the FCOL300 version is destroyed. In the old days I resized to 80dpi but lately Chris has asked me to send image 1100 pixels high no matter what the dpi is. This version is then put into a "ready to go" folder and every day I send Chris and Paul two ships from the "ready to go" folder.

Sometimes Chris finds I made a mistake or asks me to make some other change. Those fixes are made when I have time.
