Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Captain's Log: CL55 Double Nickel Edition: Archive through September 14, 2021
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, August 31, 2020 - 10:57 am: Edit

Almost done with CL54 and I am starting to take a look at the leftovers to see what might end up in CL55. Steve Petrick has an excellent selection of scenarios for SFB but we can always use more. My tank project will be good for a one page snapshot with details of another tank, maybe the Lyran Panther. I have an idea for a fiction story I want to write BATTLE OF THE BLACK FLEET but if somebody sends in a good rip-roaring space battle my ego can stand being bumped to the next issue.

If nothing else better for Federation Commander comes up, could we do some R4J related ships? Say the Queen War Eagle, Queen Storm Eagle, Early Storm Eagle, and Battlehawk-B. (I know the BHB isn't directly in R4J, but it still appropriate.)

How about more early year ships

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 05:55 pm: Edit

Federation Commander or SFB?

For Federation Commander, there is a demonstrated lack of interest.

For SFB, what are you looking for? There are already three modules worth, and several already in CL. What are you looking for?

Is there an F&E scenario lined up?

By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 07:04 pm: Edit

Would like to see more of the Early Years simulator ships to follow up on the cruisers from a while back.

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 07:16 pm: Edit

Well, the rules are there. I think I submitted both DDs and CAs, so if only CAs were published, they already have the DDs.

Advanced technology simulator ships would be welcome.

A Qari 'Ogre' advanced technology cruiser and so on.

Frax bases

Type IV phasers for Simulator and Omegan races.

Do any of the simulator races have base ssds

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 10:39 pm: Edit

The simulator empires don't need base SSDs. What they may need is weapon assignments for the generic bases. Which could still be a handy CL article. Would be fun to see that. (Yes, I am volunteering for that if it hasn't been done already. It may already have been done somewhere.)

For Frax bases, that's pretty easy. Use Klingon bases with the following two changes:
- Remove the security stations.
- If AFDs are used, use the Hydran method of replacing Ph-3s with Ph-Gs, but use AFDs, not Ph-Gs.
Again, this should be covered with the other simulator bases.

Cybertanks for Star Fleet Marines.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 11:42 pm: Edit

Perhaps the Federation Commander section could be used to feature a set of Juggernaut Empire Ship Cards - say, the FF, DD, CL, and CA - to support the range of miniatures currently available on Shapeways?

Alternatively, perhaps a set of four "metal-hull" Jindarian Ship Cards. They also have a range of minis on the Shapeways storefront, and would be useful for the playtest Omega and LMC settings also. (At least their "pre-Y1" hulls might be so, since it is as yet unclear which, if any, "post-Y1" Alpha Octant Jindarian designs would also exist in the Omega Octant and/or in the Lesser Magellanic Cloud.)

-----

For SFB, perhaps a set of sample first-generation X-ships for either of the "lost empires" from Module C6?

Of those, the "lost empire" Paravians might be the easier of the two, as they would only need an X-upgrade to the quantum wave torpedo.

Designed by a group of cadets tired of getting chewed up by the contents of The Andromedan Threat File, hack the simulators and insert specifications for Y-tech Andros.

By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 12:31 am: Edit

B-b-b-but Alex, the Andromedans we see ARE their Y-tech ships! I mean, do they have any Phaser-1s? No! They're limited (like ALL the other Y-tech ships except the conjectural Federation BBY and, of course, those blasted Vulcans) to only having Phaser-2s AND they can't overload their heavy weapons! They can only load them to standard levels!

(and I think I'm gonna get lynched for that one!! :))

By Douglas Saldana (Dsal) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 12:31 am: Edit

It was mentioned in Captain's Log 49 that the first Andromedan ships that arrived in the LMC had left Andromeda 200 years earlier but once the Intergalactic Trunk Line was established travel time between galaxies "decreased rapidly".

So perhaps it was theorized that the 1st ships to arrive (having left Andromedan long before the ships arriving by the Trunk Line) would be of an older and less advanced design. Furthermore, such ships would (like Galactic National Guard designs) probably only be suitable for internal security (in the LMC) or as a mothball reserve, so would not be encountered in the Milky Way itself.

The Galactic Powers were later surprised that no such ships were encountered when Operation Unity reached the LMC (or even in the last ditch defense of the Andromedan Starbase).

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 01:08 am: Edit

I would imagine that the first Andros to arrive were construction troops to build the arrival end bases. The ships that entered the MW might have been less than a decade old.

By Jeff Anderson (Jga) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 12:43 pm: Edit

Or perhaps the Andromedan Invaders had such dominion over the Andromeda Galaxy that, like the forces of the Tholian Will, technological development had stagnated?

(... And perhaps it was the resistance from the forces of the Magellanic Cloud that provided the impetus for improving their own ships...)

Know it’s not going to happen butt how about A revamp on Deth okay’s ship the hammerfeild

By Douglas Saldana (Dsal) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 07:01 pm: Edit

Hammerfield could be retconned as a WYN ship.

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Monday, September 13, 2021 - 10:26 pm: Edit

The easiest recon for the Hammerfield is either a BC or BCH. Don't know if the dates work out, though. No need for a new SSD in that case.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 07:53 am: Edit

We do not need another Hammerfield. One was enough.

By Mike Grafton (Mike_Grafton) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 08:34 am: Edit

I agree with SVC. Though "One off" ships are pretty cool. Whether it's that Pirate Q ship with a hidden internal bay for a pair of PFs, or the Large Armed Freighter with the special pod for mass commando raids (10 transporters!)...

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 10:32 am: Edit

Well, if the Hammerfield is reconned into a BC or BCH, then there are zero exceptions, rather than one ...
