I'm training new people. Have one guy hooked. He got basic and advanced on ebay. One guy who has never seen the game before and wants to try it. Might have 1-2 other people show up who played their first game a few weeks ago but their schedules may not be open. Basically I'm trying to get a group going. Very basic moving, shooting, seeking weapons. No advanced stuff yet. Have not picked a scenario since I'm not sure how many will be there. It is possible a friend that has been playing with me for years will show too to help but he has not cleared it with his boss (girl friend) yet.

Depends how many people you have. I haven't played in a couple of years but had a group in the late 90s to early 00s and played quite a bit.

My advice is have the newbies play each other. You be controller. Tell them they can ask there first officer for advice ie You. That way they are playing some one at there level while learning the game. It kind of sucks for you but i found that it did not discourage the newbies. Then latter when they got better i could blow them up

I think modern gamers will like beer & pretzels scenarios more than straight up fights. Something like That's My Freighter, that has a fun objective other than straight combat. It may seem counter-intuitive to add more complexity than a straight up fight, but that strategic layer of the game is separate from the complexity of SFB. Something like That's My Freighter is something they will easily and immediately understand.

This will be a lot more fun too people who have been raised on computer games, and make it more likely that they will want to keep playing.
