Yeah, I'm confused too. Or maybe it's too obvious to be comprehended?

I'll leave all the "Time Stuff" up to The Doctor. The most I'll ever do is quote Einstein (who famously once said, "Time exists to keep everything from happening at once") or Ford Prefect (who once said, "Time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so").

Yes... everyone is confused by Rube... SFB players will be less confused. I am not trying to explain how it works, just letting you guys know it exists and comes from SFB. "Moments of time containing reality" is a good example, you guy's partly get that all on its own. You can at least see some sense in it, non-SFB players just hear mindless gibberish there.
Also, it's not just SVC's impulse chart, it's also my framework and structure that I have it running through. So as SFB players you only have half of the puzzle, its not just something you can think through based on just knowing SFB alone. Hopefully I will find a way to do something with it soon.

Anyone here understand the rules for Star Trek 3d chess? I'm trying to figure out how knights are allowed to move. Haven't seen that online. Can they jump up / down two boards? And if so, can they only move one space in one other dimension? E.g. say a white knight is on b4 on the bottom board. Can it move to c5 or b6 on the top board? Or could it only move to b5, since it moved up two boards? Thanks, Ben.

Well, just a guess on my part, but I think the moves in 3d Chess were performed by actors trying to look like they were involved in an advanced version of Chess. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess.
Personally? I think "Real" 3D chess is like a combination of Fizzbin (from the TOS Episode, "A Piece of the Action") and Calvinball, from Calvin and Hobbes; you make up the rules as you go along to try and confuse your opponent...
In all seriousness, IF 3d Chess were done with an 8x8x8 cube for its board, I could make some guesses. With the existant board being a piece of statuary with a few 2x2 and 4x4 boards on it, I can't guess too well. Sorry.
BTW: Successful test.

Depends on the rules set. Some allow the piece to change level with every square moved. That would mean that a knight on the bottom board could move to the middle or top level or floating boards attached to the bottom or middle level. It could hit 9 squares from the listed starting position (3 on its level and the matching 3 squares on the two higher levels) plus possibly one square on a floating board. Other variants work differently.
I think the looser interpretation works best. The game takes a long, long time develop even with easy level changes. I doubt anyone wants to spend several turns before any pieces are in a position to be captured.

I always liked the rules for Dragon Chess (A three layered board using D&D characters and monsters for its pieces). Only certain units can move from board to board, while others must remain on their "level" but can sometimes attack into the level up or down.
Plus, as one of those weirdos who owns thousands of D&D miniatures, I can actually set up the board with actual pieces representing all the different characters.

There are rules for 3D chess i had a set many years ago. Was lost with the stuff from the first wife. I think it moved just like it does on the real board either 1 down/up 2 over are 2 down/up 1 over.

Anyone have experience with CITIES: SKYLINES?? I've seen a few videos on YouTube, and it looks interesting. I'm wondering how steep the learning curve is.

Garth,
I've seen good things about Cities: Skylines; it certainly has a fair lot of fan support out at Simtropolis. The general consensus there is that the learning curve for Skylines is fairly gradual in comparison to similar simulators.
That said... I'm still merrily ensconced in SimCity 4 Rush Hour (with something like 4GB of fan-created plug-ins).

Has anyone tried that app called, "Star Trek: Fleet Command"? Is it a data hungry app?

There's a new "Lite" version of the Nintendo Switch due out in September; it'll cost around 200 US dollars, or around 2/3 the cost of the regular Switch. This page lists the differences feature-wise between the two systems.
Also, a new Switch-exclusive Marvel game is due out next week: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Despite the numbering in the title, it reportedly won't need anyone to have played either of the two prior Ultimate Alliance games to get settled in.

Just a note of sadness: Rick Loomis passed away yesterday, the day before his 73rd birthday. He contributed much to the world of gaming and will be missed.

Hi Glenn
It doesn't see to be too data hungary….but I would say the game is pretty dire.
No real reason why it's called Star Trek..... it's just a 'open you wallet and play' game - although you can play for free (as I do), you can't compete with the players who do.
Combat is awful.... other than names of characters - (which could be just X or Y or Z - they don't seem to make a difference) I can't see the Star Trek link at all!
I'll probably be deleting it in the next few days!!

Paul, thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm cheap and impatient (a terrible combination), so I will forgo. (is that with an "e"?)
By Jon Murdock (Xenocide) on Monday, September 16, 2019 - 12:38 pm: Edit |
I also tried the Star Fleet app and did not find it to be a data hog but yeah, as was said, it is "pay to win". You hit a stone wall pretty quickly where you either pay to advance or get raided to a standstill in progress by those who either did pay or started early.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI is being ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 22nd of November; the game is currently available on Windows, macOS, Linux, the Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
Also, the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions will be released as an expansion bundle for the Switch, PS4, and XB1 editions on the same date.

Not yet, Mike.
Personally, I'm hoping they'll come up with exploding cattle, even though some find the idea a bomb in a bull.

Yes, its a bit odd, but fun and fairly quick per round. Replayabilty is good, but we play Munchkin more often. It is a nice change of game though.
Without the "Adult" upgrade, it's great for kids. With the "Adult" upgrade, it depends on the kids, nothing particularly graphic, but PG-13 humor.

Jeff, there's Unexploded Cow from Cheapass Games. I've played it, but I'm a Terry-bull player.
