I saw one comment online suggesting a Harris / Newsom ticket. Given that they are both from California and the Constitution forbids the president and vice being from the same state, that ticket is not legally possible unless one of them changes they state of residency. Do either of they have any claim that would allow them to do so??

Garth:
That's incorrect; the electors of a given state can only vote for either the president or VP, but not both. If such should happen, then the likely case is that the Kamala would surely garner all 52 electoral college (EC) votes of California and the 52 California VP votes for VP would have to be cast for someone outside of the state. The lost of the 52 VP EC votes might cause their VP candidate Newscum to not get the 270+ EC votes and would throw it to the senate where it is currently projected that the republicans look to flip prior to the new senate being seated for the vote in January.
Quote:Amendment XII
The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves...

The passage Chuck quotes means that ANY state would have could not give its electoral votes to both Kamela and Gavin. Or another way, no state can vote for both Kamela and Gavin.

Newsom is a current member of CA Government, people might love he changed, I know NC requires 6 months residency to become a citizen of the state (probably many others do also)...

This seems to have wandered rather far afield from the assassination attempt and into the political swamp. Just saying.

But it is about a disaster.... OW! OUCH! MEDIC!

Folks, you need to heed Jessica's words. Some of you are so deep in the Political Swamp that you are going to lose hands on the next post that indicates you are still in the swamp.
Knock it off with conspiracy theories about residency or anything else.

Having watched today's hearing, I have to concur that it is time for Director Cheatle to tender her resignation. Her answers to the committee were lacking to a degree that can be excused neither by OpSec nor ongoing investigations.

Regardless of their views of the former president or other political matters, what do you think the shooters parents have gone through over the past nine days? They lost their son and are bombarded everywhere they go with the news of what happened

Update: Secret Service Director Cheatle has resigned.
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 - 04:46 pm: Edit |
There definitely needs to be a more detailed description of the failures of the Secret Service activities under Director Cheatle.
It is beyond a reasonable doubt that the process failed multiple times in ways that shouldn’t have happened.

Update: Kamela Harris has secured enough pledges from delegates to the convention to secure a first ballot win. The delegates can break their pledges but rarely do. Good for the Dems to get the mess sorted quickly so we can have a free and fair election.

I think the US and the world is watching this US election with much more intensity than ever before.

Jswile: there are multiple investigations underway, including a bipartisan House investigation announced yesterday. Given time, there will be more details confirmed.

Under many circumstances, a resignation would end much of the demand for hearings and investigations.
In this case, I suspect not.
Between denial of protection to other democratic party candidate for the 2024 election of U.S. President, and reduced staffing of the Republican Party nominee protection details, there is a crying need to get to the bottom of the mess.

The latest information from the FBI is that the shooter had done some online research regarding the 1963 assassination of JFK.

So you're saying there might have been a second shooter? ;)
I just watched the JFK documentary on the Parkland Doctors who first treated JFK and what they said about entry and exit wounds vs 'the report'.
All in all truly a national disaster, the USA was riding high in many areas at that moment in time.

I think there needs to be concrete limits on how much Secret Service protection is provided to the various levels of protectees.
trump is especially challenging with multiple homes (Mar A Lago, Bedminster, Trump Tower),golf courses, and is routinely hanging out with large crowds even before he was a candidate.
I don't know what the answer is, but there has to be some limit. Can Bush II say "I might want to go into town sometime this month, please provide a detail to cover all of Midland?"
Or trump say, "I want to have major events in 3 different locations every day for the next few weeks?"
That said, the PA event was clearly a failure.
By Joseph Jackson (Bonneville) on Thursday, July 25, 2024 - 01:25 pm: Edit |
Given the financial resources the Secret Service has available, given their ability to add in local law enforcement, any given state could supplement with national guard, or even-crazy talk- civilian militia, I don't care who they are protecting and how many events they must cover. Pony up, and get the job done. What is this, a 3rd rate trailer park of a nation, or is this the US of A?
Just an opinion.
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Thursday, July 25, 2024 - 03:09 pm: Edit |
The issue of secret service protection.
It appears that the Bidens, (Joe, Jill and Hunter) have priority.
DJT clearly got the B team.
And the democrat running against Joe for theDNC nomination clearly got denied all coverage.
Ironic given the fates of his father and uncle.
One major issue with Bonneville comment, was the fact that multiple local law enforcement police departments offered additional personnel and resources, and were declined by Secret Service senior Agents before, during and after the “incident “ in Butler, PA.
The hearing in the Senate and the House Committees have a lot of things to look at.

There were also threats not too long ago against a couple SCOTUS judges, including mobs outside the home of at least one of them. Is THEIR security being re-evaluated?

US Marshall's protecting one of the justices house was on the receiving end of an attempted carjacking a couple weeks ago, while parked outside the house of the Justice

BTW, SCOTUS judges are protected by the US Marshalls, not USSS.

If the current crap going on, wonder if they are going to give the Park Police a few more than 25+ officers to protect the monuments....
